Do not use this power tool before you have thoroughly read and completely understood this Instruction Manual and the enclosed "General

Safety Instructions" (document number

3 41 30 465 06 0). The documents mentioned should be kept for later use and enclosed with the power tool, should it be passed on or sold.

Please also observe the relevant national industrial safety regulations.

Intended use of the power tool:

Transportable metal chopsaw for use with the application tools and accessories recommended by FEIN in weather-protected environments for lengthways and crossways cuts in metal materials:

  • with straight cutting sequence and
  • mitre angles to 45^ and
  • without the use of water.

In environments subject to interference, a reduction of the operating quality is possible; this can include temporary failure, temporary reduction of the function or the intended operating behaviour, for the correction of which intervention by the operator is required.

This power tool is also suitable for use with AC generators with sufficient power output that correspond to the Standard ISO 8528, design type G2. This Standard is particularly not complied with when the so-called distortion factor exceeds 10 %. When in doubt, please refer to the generator instruction/specification guide.

Observe the operating instructions and the national regulations for the installation and operation of the AC generator.

Special safety instructions.

The transportable metal chopsaw is intended for cutting metal materials such as rods, bars, screws, etc., it may not be used for sawing wood. Sawing wood is not permitted.

Use clamps to support the workpiece whenever possible. If supporting the workpiece by hand, you must always keep your hand at least 100 mm from either side of the saw blade. Do not use this saw to cut pieces that are too small to be securely clamped or held by hand. If your hand is placed too close to the saw blade, there is an increased risk of injury from blade contact.

The workpiece must be stationary and clamped or held against both the fence and the table. Do not feed the workpiece into the blade or cut "freehand" in any way.

Unrestrained or moving workpieces could be thrown at high speeds, causing injury.

Never cross your hand over the intended line of cutting either in front or behind the saw blade. Supporting the workpiece “cross handed” i.e. holding the workpiece to the right of the saw blade with your left hand or vice versa is very dangerous.

Do not reach behind the fence with either hand closer than 100 mm from either side of the saw blade, to remove wood scraps, or for any other reason while the blade is spinning. The proximity of the spinning saw blade to your hand may not be obvious and you may be seriously injured.

Inspect your workpiece before cutting. If the workpiece is bowed or warped, clamp it with the outside bowed face toward the fence. Always make certain that there is no gap between the workpiece, fence and table along the line of the cut. Bent or warped workpieces can twist or shift and may cause binding on the spinning saw blade while cutting. There should be no nails or foreign objects in the workpiece.

Do not use the saw until the table is clear of all tools, metal waste or cut-offs, etc., except for the workpiece. Small debris or loose pieces of metal or other objects that contact the revolving blade can be thrown with high speed.

Cut only one workpiece at a time. Stacked multiple workpieces cannot be adequately clamped or braced and may bind on the blade or shift during cutting.

Ensure the metal chopsaw is mounted or placed on a level, firm work surface before use. A level and firm work surface reduces the risk of the metal chopsaw becoming unstable.

Plan your work. Every time you change the mitre angle setting, make sure the adjustable fence is set correctly to support the workpiece and will not interfere with the blade or the guarding system. Without turning the tool "ON" and with no workpiece on the table, move the saw blade through a complete simulated cut to assure there will be no interference or danger of cutting the fence.

Provide adequate support such as table extensions, saw horses, etc. for a workpiece that is wider or longer than the table top. Workpieces longer or wider than the metal chopsaw table can tip if not securely supported. If the cut-off piece or workpiece tips, it can lift the lower guard or be thrown by the spinning blade.

Do not use another person as a substitute for a table extension or as additional support. Unstable support for the workpiece can cause the blade to bind or the workpiece to shift during the cutting operation pulling you and the helper into the spinning blade.

The cut-off piece must not be jammed or pressed by any means against the spinning saw blade. If confined, i.e. using length stops, the cut-off piece could get wedged against the blade and thrown violently.

Always use a clamp or a fixture designed to properly support round material such as rods or tubing. Rods have a tendency to roll while being cut, causing the blade to "bite" and pull the work with your hand into the blade.

Let the blade reach full speed before contacting the workpiece. This will reduce the risk of the workpiece being thrown.

If the workpiece or blade becomes jammed, turn the metal chopsaw off. Wait for all moving parts to stop and disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack. Then work to free the jammed material. Continued sawing with a jammed workpiece could cause loss of control or damage to the metal chopsaw.

After finishing the cut, release the switch, hold the saw head down and wait for the blade to stop before removing the cut-off piece. Reaching with your hand near the coasting blade is dangerous.

Hold the handle firmly when making an incomplete cut or when releasing the switch before the saw head is completely in the down position. The braking action of the saw may cause the saw head to be suddenly pulled downward, causing a risk of injury.

Causes and operator prevention of kickback

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator.

When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the cut closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator.

If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the metal, causing the blade to climb out of the cut and jump back toward the operator.

Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

Maintain a firm grip on saw handle and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade.

Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator if proper precautions are taken.

When blade is binding or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or remove the saw blade from the work piece while in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.

When restarting a saw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the cut and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If saw blade is binding, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.

Support long material lengths to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Long length materials tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the material on both sides near the line of cut and near the edge of the material.

Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly mounted blades produce narrow cuts causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.

Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback. Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.

Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. Where appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtrating particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.

Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpiece or of a broken accessory may fly away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.

Regularly clean the power tool's air vents. The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.

Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.

Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.

Secure the work piece firmly. A work piece that is gripped tightly in a clamping device or vice, is more secure than if held by hand.

Before putting into operation, check the mains connection and the mains plug for damage.

Always operate the power tool with together with a PRCD personal protection switch (*). Before beginning to work, always check the proper functioning of the PRCD personal protection switch (*) (see page 30).

Use ear protection during operation.

Use a stationary extraction system, blow out ventilation slots frequently and connect a residual current device (RCD) on the line side. When working metal under extreme operating conditions, it is possible for conductive dust to settle in the interior of the power tool. The total insulation of the power tool can be impaired.

Do not rivet or screw any name-plates or signs onto the power tool. If the insulation is damaged, protection against an electric shock will be ineffective.

Do not work with materials containing magnesium. Danger of fire.

Do not work with CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer) and materials containing asbestos. These materials are considered carcinogenic.

Hand/arm vibrations

The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 62841 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure.

The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However, if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Handling hazardous dusts

For work procedures with this power tool where material is removed, dusts develop that can be hazardous to one's health.

Contact with or inhaling some dust types, e. g. asbestos and asbestos-containing materials, lead-containing coatings, metal, some wood types, minerals, silicate particles from materials containing stone, paint solvents, wood preservatives, antifouling paints for vessels, can trigger allergic reactions to the operator or bystanders and/or lead to respiratory infections, cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The risk from inhaling dusts depends on the exposition. Use dust extraction matched appropriately for the developing dust, as well as personal protective equipment and provide for good ventilation of the workplace. Leave the processing of asbestos-containing materials to specialists.

Wood and light-metal dust, hot mixtures of grinding dust and chemical materials can self-ignite under unfavourable conditions or cause an explosion. Avoid sparking in the direction of the dust collector as well as overheating of the power tool and the materials being sanded, empty the dust collector/container in time, observe the material manufacturer's working instructions, as well as the relevant regulations in your country for the materials being worked.

Operating Instructions.

Guide the power tool toward the workpiece only when switched on. Otherwise, the workpiece and application tools may be damaged.

Always carry out a test cut, as the scale for the mitre angle has a certain tolerance. Readjustment may possibly be required.

Cut only one workpiece at a time. Stacked multiple workpieces cannot be adequately clamped or braced and may bind on the blade or shift during cutting.

etc. away from chippings. Do not attempt to remove the application tool when still rotating. This can lead to serious injuries.

tion. Before tool changing, allow the application tool to cool down.

Mounting on the working surface (see page 4)

Mount the power tool to the working surface with suitable screw connections.

Adjusting the depth stop (see page 6)

When the depth stop is set too low, there is a risk of sawing into the chip/grinding-dust box or saw table. Do not adjust the depth stop too low.

Vice (see page 9)

The vice can be fastened in two positions. To move the vice, loosen the corresponding screws, lift the vice out of the holes and reposition the vice. Fasten the vice again with the two screws.

Electronic soft starting

The electronic soft starting feature limits the torque when switching on and thus increases the motor's service life.

Rotation direction of the saw blade

When installing the saw blade, make sure that the cutting direction of the teeth (arrow direction on saw blade) corresponds to the arrow direction on the wheel guard.

Speed of the saw blade

The speed of the saw blade must at least correspond to the rated speed of the power tool.

Spindle lock (see pages 12/15)

Before switching on the power tool and after changing the saw blade, make sure that the spindle is not locked.

Replacing the carbon brushes

The carbon brushes may only be changed by the after-sales service.

If the personal protection switch is damaged, e.g. due to contact with water, do not use it any more.

The PRCD personal protection switch is indispensable; it is used for protection of the operator against electric shock. Under fault-free operation, the personal protection switch control lamp is active.

Check the operability of the PRCD personal protection switch before beginning to work:

  1. Connect the plug of the PRCD personal protection switch with the mains socket outlet.
  2. Press the RESET-button. The personal protection switch control lamp is active.
  3. Disconnect the plug from the mains socket outlet. The personal protection switch control lamp becomes inactive.
  4. Repeat steps 1. and 2.
  5. Press the TEST-button. The personal protection switch control lamp becomes inactive. In case the control lamp remains active, do not run the product. In this case, contact the customer service at www.fein.com.
  6. Press the RESET-button. When the control lamp is active, the product may be switched on.

Power tool lubrication

To prolong the life of the power tool, apply oil to the following points every month (also refer to page 16):

  • Rotating part of the shaft
  • Rotating part of the vice
  • Gliding path of the vice

For transport, hook the chain and carry the power tool by the transport handle.

When working metal under extreme operating conditions, it is possible for conductive dust to settle in the interior of the power

tool. The total insulation of the power tool can be impaired. Blow out the interior of the power tool via the ventilation slots frequently with dry and oil-free compressed air.

Products that have come into contact with asbestos may not be sent in for repair. Dispose of products contaminated with asbestos according to the applicable country-specific regulations for such disposal.

When the machine's power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their representative.
