Fein AHKS18-57 AS - Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. - 1

Do not use this power tool before you have thoroughly read and completely understood this Instruction Manual and the enclosed "General

Safety Instructions" (document number

3 41 30 465 06 0). The documents mentioned should be kept for later use and enclosed with the power tool, should it be passed on or sold.

Please also observe the relevant national industrial safety regulations.

Intended use of the power tool.

The hand-held, cordless circular saw is intended for making straight saw cuts in metal materials and plastics in weather-protected environments without water supply using the application tools and accessories recommended by FEIN.

The circular saw is not intended for plunge cuts.

All other types of use are considered as not intended for.

Foreseeable improper use.

The circular saw must not be used for sawing wooden materials.

When switching on, during operation and when switching off, avoid direct contact with metal chips in the side area of the ventilation openings. Also pay attention to flying sparks and chips when other power tools are used in the adjacent area. Failure to observe these instructions may result in blocking of the motor.

Safety instructions.

Cutting procedures

DANGER

Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second

hand on auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both

hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.

Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.

Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.

Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimise body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.

Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.

When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.

Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbour holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run off-centre, causing loss of control.

Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt.

The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

- Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, jammed or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator.

- When the blade is pinched or jammed tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator.

- If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator.

Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken.

When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.

When restarting a saw in the workpiece, centre the saw blade in the kerf so that the saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If a saw blade binds, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.

Support large panels to minimise the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.

Do not use dull or damaged saw blades. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.

Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making the cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kick-back.

Use extra caution when sawing into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.

Lower guard function

Check the lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. If the saw is accidentally dropped, the lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower guard with the retracting handle and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.

Check the operation of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.

The lower guard may be retracted manually only for special cuts such as "Tauch- und Winkelschnitten". "plunge cuts" and "compound cuts". Raise the lower guard by the retracting handle and as soon as the blade enters the material, the lower guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should operate automatically.

Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing the saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released.

Special safety instructions.

Do not use a damaged power tool. Before each use of the power tool, check the housing and other components for damage such as cracks or breakage.

Only use approved batteries. When using non-compatible batteries, the power tool will not start.

Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtrating particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.

When working at height, block off the area below the work area and always secure the power tool and the workpiece against falling.

Only use the power tool on a stable work surface and ensure a secure footing.

Secure the work piece firmly. A work piece that is gripped tightly in a clamping device or vice, is more secure than if held by hand.

While working, the workpiece must be firmly supported and secured against moving.

Do not attempt to cut extremely small workpieces.

Hold the power tool firmly. High reaction torque can briefly occur.

Do not work with materials containing magnesium. Danger of fire.

Do not work with CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer) and materials containing asbestos. These materials are considered carcinogenic.

Do not rivet or screw any name-plates or signs onto the power tool. If the insulation is damaged, protection against an electric shock will be ineffective.

Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the power tool manufacturer. Safe operation is not ensured merely because an accessory fits your power tool.

Clean the ventilation openings on the power tool at regular intervals using non-metal tools. The blower of the motor draws dust into the housing. An excessive accumulation of metallic dust can cause an electrical hazard.

Never look or stare into the light of the power tool's lamp from a short distance. Never point the light of the lamp into the eyes of other persons in close vicinity.

The radiation produced by the lamp can be harmful for the eye.

Do not direct the power tool against yourself, other persons or animals. Danger of injury from sharp or hot application tools.

Remove the battery before carrying out any adjustments or maintenance on the power tool.

Do not use grinding discs.

Only use saw blades with a diameter corresponding to the label on the power tool.

Only use saw blades with a speed marking that corresponds to or exceeds the specification on the power tool.

Use only saw blades that are suitable for the material to be sawn.

Avoid overheating the saw tooth tips.

When sawing plastic, avoid melting the material.

Do not touch rotating application tools. Only remove chips when the application tool is at a complete stop.

Only actuate the spindle locking button when the insert tool is stopped.

Do not stop the saw blade by applying lateral pressure to it.

Check that the retracting guard is working properly each time before using. The retracting guard must move freely and return easily, precisely, and automatically into its starting position.

Do not clamp the retracting guard in the retracted position for sawing.

Check the workpiece for foreign objects. When working, always pay attention not to saw into nails etc.

If the saw blade jams, switch off the motor immediately.

Remove the battery when transporting and storing the power tool.

Observe the safety instructions in the manuals of the chargers from FEIN or the AMPShare partners.

Vibration and noise emission values

The vibration and noise emission values given in these instructions have been measured according to a measurement method standardised in EN 62841 and can be used to compare power tools with each other. They are also suitable for a preliminary assessment of vibration and noise exposure.

The given vibration and noise emission values represent the main applications of the power tool.

However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with deviating application tools or insufficient maintenance, the overall vibration values and the noise emission values may differ. This can significantly increase the vibration and noise exposure over the total working period.

For an accurate estimation of vibration and noise exposure, the durations when the equipment is switched off or running but not actually in use should also be taken into account. This may significantly reduce the vibration and noise exposure over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration and noise such as: Maintain the power tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organization of work patterns.

Handling hazardous dusts

For work procedures with this product where material is removed, dusts develop that can be hazardous to one's health.

Contact with or inhaling some dust types, e.g. asbestos and asbestos-containing materials, lead-containing coatings, metal, some wood types, minerals, silicate particles from materials containing stone, paint solvents, wood preservatives, anti-fouling paints for vessels, can trigger allergic reactions to the operator or bystanders or lead to respiratory infections, cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The risk from inhaling dusts depends on the exposition. Use dust extraction matched appropriately for the developing dust, as well as personal protective equipment. Provide for good ventilation of the workplace. Leave the processing of asbestos-containing materials to specialists.

Wood and light-metal dust, hot mixtures of sanding dust and chemical materials can self-ignite under unfavourable conditions or cause an explosion. Avoid sparking in the direction of the dust collector as well as overheating of the product and the materials being sanded. Empty the dust collector in good time. Observe the material manufacturer's working instructions, as well as the relevant regulations in your country for the materials being worked.

Starting Operation.
