WARNING: Disconnect the battery before car-

rying out maintenance work. General Power Tool Safety Warnings WARNING Read all safety warnings, instruc- tions, illustrations and specifica- tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all in- structions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/ or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains- operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cord- less) power tool. Work area safety u Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Bosch Power Tools F 016 L94 641 | (27.03.2025)26 | English u Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. u Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical safety u Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. u Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded sur- faces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerat- ors. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. u Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of elec- tric shock. u Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carry- ing, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. u When operating a power tool outdoors, use an exten- sion cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suit- able for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. u If operating a power tool in a damp location is un- avoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protec- ted supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety u Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inatten- tion while operating power tools may result in serious per- sonal injury. u Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal in- juries. u Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or en- ergising power tools that have the switch on invites acci- dents. u Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal in- jury. u Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. u Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jew- ellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. u If devices are provided for the connection of dust ex- traction and collection facilities, ensure these are con- nected and properly used. Use of dust collection can re- duce dust-related hazards. u Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe in- jury within a fraction of a second. Power tool use and care u Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was de- signed. u Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. u Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or re- move the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing ac- cessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. u Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. u Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for mis- alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. u Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main- tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. u Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into ac- count the working conditions and the work to be per- formed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. u Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations. Battery tool use and care u Recharge only with the charger specified by the manu- facturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of bat- tery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. F 016 L94 641 | (27.03.2025) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 27 u Use power tools only with specifically designated bat- tery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. u When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. u Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally oc- curs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, addi- tionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the bat- tery may cause irritation or burns. u Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury. u Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excess- ive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C may cause explosion. u Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. Service u Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. u Never service damaged battery packs. Service of bat- tery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers. Pole pruner safety warnings u Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain or saw blade when the pole pruner is operating. Before you start the pole pruner, make sure the saw chain or saw blade is not contacting anything. A moment of inat- tention while operating the pole pruner may result in in- jury to yourself or others. u Always use two hands when operating the pole pru- ner. Hold the pole pruner with both hands to avoid loss of control. u To reduce the risk of electrocution, never use the pole pruner near any electrical power lines. Contact with or use near power lines may cause serious injury or electric shock resulting in death. u Hold the pole pruner by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain or blade may contact hid- den wiring. Saw chains or blades contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the machine “live” and could give the operator an electric shock. u Wear eye and ear protection. Further protective equipment for hands and slip resistant footwear is re- commended. Appropriate protective equipment will re- duce the risk of injuries. u Always use head protection when operating the pole pruner overhead. Falling debris can result in serious per- sonal injury. u Always keep proper footing and operate the pole pru- ner only when standing on the ground. Slippery or un- stable surfaces may cause a loss of balance or control of the machine. u Do not operate a pole pruner in a tree, on a ladder, or any unstable support. Operation of a pole pruner in this manner may result in loss of balance, loss of control and personal injury. u Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area. Power cords or cables may be hidden in trees and can be accidentally cut by the saw chain or saw blade. u Do not use the pole pruner in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This de- creases the risk of being struck by lightning. u When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back. When the tension in the wood fibres is re- leased, the spring-loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the pole pruner out of control. u Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the saw chain or saw blade and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance. u When carrying the pole pruner with the machine switched off, take care not to operate any power switch and keep the saw chain or saw blade away from your body. Proper carrying of the pole pruner will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the saw chain or saw blade. u When transporting or storing the pole pruner, always fit the guide bar or saw blade cover. Proper handling of the pole pruner will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving saw chain or saw blade. u When clearing jammed material, storing or servicing the pole pruner, make sure the switch is off and all battery packs are removed. Unexpected actuation of the machine while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury. u Cut wood only. Do not use the pole pruner for pur- poses not intended. For example: do not use the pole pruner for cutting plastic, metal, masonry or non- wood building materials. Use of the pole pruner for op- erations different than intended could result in a hazard- ous situation. Additional safety warnings Causes and operator prevention of kickback: – Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. – Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse re- action, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the oper- ator. Bosch Power Tools F 016 L94 641 | (27.03.2025)28 | English – Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the pole pruner which could result in serious personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your pole pruner. As a pole pruner user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury. Kickback is the result of incorrect or faulty use of the pole pruner. Kickback can be avoided by taking proper precau- tions as given below: Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the pole pruner handles, with both hands on the pole pru- ner and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the pole pruner. u Never use the pole pruner on a ladder. Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback. u This tool contains magnets– keep away from implants and other medical devices, e.g. pacemaker or insulin pumps, magnetic storage media and magnetically sensitive devices. The magnet generates a field that can impair the function of the devices or lead to irreversible data loss. u This appliance is not intended for use by persons (in- cluding children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and know- ledge, unless they have been given supervision or in- struction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. When rotated anti-clockwise, the fastening nut lifts, thus releasing the cover from the pole pruner. – Hold the chain bar (5) with the nose pointing vertically upwards and attach a new or resharpened saw chain(6) (see figureC1). – Adjust the guide pin for the chain bar to the left by rotat- ing the chain tensioning screw(2) anti-clockwise. Note: the chain bar will not fit to the pole pruner unless the guide pin for chain bar is aligned correctly. – Ensure that the saw chain (6) is correctly positioned in the slot around the entire chain bar. – Fit the saw chain around the drive sprocket (1) and slide the chain bar (5) over the fastening bolts (3). – Place the cover (27) over the fastening bolts (3). – Carefully partially tighten the fastening nut(28) by hand to secure the cover(27). – Use the assembly tool (26) to turn the chain tensioning screw (2) clockwise until the chain is tensioned around the chain bar. The correct chain tension is achieved when the saw chain (6) can be lifted approx. 3–4mm from the chain bar (5). To do so, place the pole pruner on a suitable level surface. Wearing gloves, take up the saw chain at the top of the chain bar (5), near the centre of the cutting length, and lift the saw chain (6) against the weight of the pole pru- ner. – Once the correct tension is reached, tighten the fastening nut until secure. – If the saw chain is tensioned too tightly, first loosen the fastening nut(28) and then the chain tensioning screw(2) anti-clockwise until the correct chain tension is reached. Note: Do not over-tension the saw chain– excessive tension leads to excessive wear, reduces the service life of the saw chain and can damage the chain bar. Note: New saw chains can considerably elongate when used for the first time. Remove the battery and check the tension of the saw chain regularly during the first two hours of opera- tion. – Tighten the fastening nut (28) using the assembly tool (26) and attach the cover (27) to the pole pruner. Dismantling the saw chain and chain bar – Place the pole pruner head on a suitable level surface with the cover(27) facing upwards. – Remove the cover (27) by removing the fastening nut (28) using the assembly tool supplied (26) . – Loosen the saw chain (6) by turning the chain tensioning screw (2) anti-clockwise using the assembly tool (26). – Remove the chain bar(5) from the fastening bolts(3). – Remove the chain from the drive sprocket. Filling the oil reservoir (see figureG) Note: The pole pruner is not supplied filled with oil. It is es- sential to fill with oil before use. Operating the pole pruner without chain oil or when the oil level is below the minimum mark will result in damage to the chain bar and saw chain. To fill the oil reservoir, please proceed as follows: – Set the pole pruner on any suitable surface with the oil filler cap(7) facing upward. – Clean the area around the oil filler cap(7). Use a clean cloth to remove any dirt. – Flip up the oil cap and unscrew the oil filler cap(7) anti- clockwise. – Carefully fill the oil reservoir with Bosch biodegradable chain saw oil. (Part number: F016800642) – When filling with chain saw oil, ensure that no dirt or for- eign objects enter the oil reservoir. – The oil filler cap(7) is attached to the pole pruner. When filling, ensure that the oil filler cap does not block the opening of the oil reservoir. – Fit the oil filler cap(7) and tighten it. Note: It is important to use only readily biodegradable chain lubricants (according to RAL-UZ48) to avoid damage to the pole pruner. Never use recycled/old oil. Use of non approved oil will invalidate the warranty. Note: To achieve the best performance, Bosch biodegrad- able chain saw oil should be used. F 016 L94 641 | (27.03.2025) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 33 Saw Chain Lubrication (see figureG) Saw chain life and cutting capacity depend on optimum lub- rication. Therefore, the saw chain is automatically lubricated with chain oil during operation via the oil outlet. Check regularly whether the saw chain is properly lubric- ated: – When the oil reservoir is full, hold the pole pruner with the tip of the chain bar pointed at a light-coloured surface. – Let the power tool run for approx. 1minute or until oil is visible on the light-coloured surface. – If no oil is visible, see troubleshooting "Saw chain dry". – If the lubrication system is still not working properly, con- tact a Bosch Customer Service centre. Note: The oil filter is integrated in the oil reservoir. Contact Bosch Customer Service for cleaning or troubleshooting. Note: Oil becomes denser at lower temperatures which de- creases the flow rate of oil. Operation u Always read the operating and safety information be- fore use. u Always wear suitable clothing and personal protective equipment. u Carry out all required maintenance activities before use. u Always check the tool and saw chain condition, the oil level and correct assembly before use. Only use the pole pruner if it is in perfect condition. u Always make sure that the environment is dry and free from obstacles and persons not involved. u Always keep proper footing and operate the pole pru- ner only when standing on fixed, secure and level sur- face. u Never use the pole pruner on a ladder or above shoulder height. u Never over-reach or work with arms fully extended. u Always hold the pole pruner with both hands. u Do not leave the pole pruner on the ground. Risk of stumbling! u Do not smoke and do not bring fire or flames into the work area. Chain saw dust can be highly flammable. u Do not activate the On/Off switch after the machine has switched off automatically. Otherwise, the bat- tery may be damaged. Note: The pole pruner is not supplied filled with oil (F016800642). Do not use the pole pruner until you have filled the oil reservoir with the recommended chain saw oil (see figureG). u Using the pole pruner with a misaligned or improperly tensioned chain may result in chain breakage, kick- back, and/or injury. u New saw chains can considerably elongate when used for the first time. u Check the chain tension regularly during operation. For the correct mounting procedure, seeMounting the chain bar and tensioning the saw chain. Correct handling of the pole pruner (see figuresJ – M) Always apply the correct handling described in this section: – The chain must be running at full speed before it makes contact with the wood. – Pruning straight through a tree branch from the top edge down is appropriate for branches up to 5cm in diameter. – Pruning branches from the bottom edge upwards can cause the chain bar and chain to become entrapped. – Thicker branches should be pruned in three steps to pre- vent damaging the tree. – Do not force the pole pruner while cutting, let it do the work. – Sawing is optimized when the chain speed remains steady during cutting. Switching On and Off (see figureI) u Wear suitable, non-slip chain saw gloves for maximum grip and protection. Before switching on: – Remove the chain guard (8). – Reinsert the battery. – Hold the pole pruner securely with both handles and keep your body out of the reach of the saw chain. (seefigureJ). Before starting operation and periodically during cutting, carry out the following checks: – Is the pole pruner in a fail-safe condition? – Is the oil reservoir filled? Check oil level gauge prior to starting and regularly during operation. Refill oil when the oil level has reached the bottom edge of the oil level indic- ator. – Is the saw chain properly tensioned and sharp? To switch on the power tool, first slide the lock-off button (15) toward the front. Place your palm on the user presence switch (14) and press the On/Off switch(24). Keep the user presence switch (14) and the On/Off switch (24) pressed while operating the machine. To switch off the power tool, release the user presence switch(14) and the On/Off switch(24). Pruning branches (see figureL and M) Limbing (cross-cut): – Stand in a safe stable location, with feet apart for bal- ance. – From a safe distance, direct the pole pruner towards the branch you would like to cut (see figureJ). – Never cut directly below the cutting area. – Let the weight of the pole pruner guide the chain bar onto the branch. Bosch Power Tools F 016 L94 641 | (27.03.2025)34 | English – Run the pole pruner, approach the branch and place the chain bar onto the branch. – Cut through the branch with the bottom side of the chain bar. – Use the branch hook to remove loose branches from the cutting area. Note: To avoid splitting a larger branch, start with a small relief cut on the underside, then complete the cut from the top. Limbing wood under tension:

Warning: The risk of pinching the pole pruner increases

when cutting branches under tension. The tension in the wood can suddenly and forcefully release, propelling the limb or pole pruner toward the operator, which may cause injury or loss of control. To minimize the risk of severe or fatal injury from losing con- trol while cutting wood under tension: – Always start with a relieving cut on the compression side of the branch, followed by a cross-cut on the tension side (see figureJ). – If the chain bar/chain gets pinched and trapped, turn off the motor, remove the battery, and carefully remove the pole pruner from the branch. Note: Ensure that the limb does not suddenly snap or re- lease. You may add Your own attribution notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed as modifying the License. You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this License.

However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.
