Bosch Power Tools F 016 L94 542 | (07.02.2023)14 | English General Power Tool Safety Warnings WARNING Read all safety warnings, instruc- tions, illustrations and specifica- tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all in- structions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/ or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains- operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cord- less) power tool. Work area safety u Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. u Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. u Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical safety u Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. u Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded sur- faces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerat- ors. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. u Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of elec- tric shock. u Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carry- ing, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. u When operating a power tool outdoors, use an exten- sion cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suit- able for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. u If operating a power tool in a damp location is un- avoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protec- ted supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety u Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inatten- tion while operating power tools may result in serious per- sonal injury. u Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal in- juries. u Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or en- ergising power tools that have the switch on invites acci- dents. u Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal in- jury. u Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. u Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jew- ellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. u If devices are provided for the connection of dust ex- traction and collection facilities, ensure these are con- nected and properly used. Use of dust collection can re- duce dust-related hazards. u Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe in- jury within a fraction of a second. Power tool use and care u Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was de- signed. u Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. u Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or re- move the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing ac- cessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. u Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. u Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for mis- alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. u Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main- tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. u Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into ac- F 016 L94 542 | (07.02.2023) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 15 count the working conditions and the work to be per- formed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. u Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations. Battery tool use and care u Recharge only with the charger specified by the manu- facturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of bat- tery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. u Use power tools only with specifically designated bat- tery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. u When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. u Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally oc- curs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, addi- tionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the bat- tery may cause irritation or burns. u Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury. u Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excess- ive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C may cause explosion. u Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. Service u Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. u Never service damaged battery packs. Service of bat- tery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers. Grass trimmer, brush cutter and brush saw safety warnings u Do not use the machine in bad weather conditions, es- pecially when there is a risk of lightning. This de- creases the risk of being struck by lightning. u Thoroughly inspect the area for wildlife where the ma- chine is to be used. Wildlife may be injured by the ma- chine during operation. u Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects. Thrown objects can cause personal injury. u Before using the machine, always visually inspect to see that the cutter or blade and the cutter or blade as- sembly are not damaged. Damaged parts increase the risk of injury. u Follow instructions for changing accessories. Improp- erly tightened blade securing nuts or bolts may either damage the blade or result in it becoming detached. u The rated rotational speed of the blade must be at least equal to the maximum rotational speed marked on the machine. Blades running faster than their rated rotational speed can break and fly apart. u Wear eye, ear, head and hand protection. Adequate protective equipment will reduce personal injury by flying debris or accidental contact with the cutting line or blade. u While operating the machine, always wear safety foot- wear. Don't operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals. This reduces the chance of injury to feet from contact with the moving cutter, line or blade. u While operating the machine, always wear long trousers. Exposed skin increases the likelihood of injury from thrown objects. u Keep bystanders away while operating the machine. Thrown debris can result in serious personal injury. u Always use two hands when operating the machine. Hold the machine with both hands to avoid loss of con- trol. u Hold the machine by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the cutting line or blade may contact hidden wiring. Cutting line or blades contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the machine "live" and could give the operator an electric shock. u Always keep proper footing and operate the machine only when standing on the ground. Slippery or unstable surfaces may cause a loss of balance or control of the ma- chine. u Do not operate the machine on excessively steep slopes. This reduces the risk of loss of control, slipping and falling which may result in personal injury. u When working on slopes, always be sure of your foot- ing, always work across the face of slopes, never up or down and exercise extreme caution when changing direction. This reduces the risk of loss of control, slipping and falling which may result in personal injury. u Keep all parts of the body away from the cutter, line or blade when the machine is operating. Before you start the machine, make sure the cutter, line or blade is not contacting anything. A moment of inattention while op- erating the machine may result in injury to yourself or oth- ers. u Do not operate the machine above waist height. This helps prevent unintended cutter or blade contact and en- Bosch Power Tools F 016 L94 542 | (07.02.2023)16 | English ables better control of the machine in unexpected situ- ations. u When cutting brush or saplings that are under ten- sion, be alert for spring back. When the tension in the wood fibres is released, the brush or sapling may strike the operator and/or throw the machine out of control. u Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the blade and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance. u Maintain control of the machine and do not touch blades and other hazardous moving parts while they are still in motion. This reduces the risk of injury from moving parts. u When clearing jammed material or servicing the ma- chine, make sure the switch is off and the battery pack is removed. Unexpected starting of the machine while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury. u Carry the machine with the machine switched off and away from your body. Proper handling of the machine will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving blade. u When transporting or storing the machine, always fit the cover on metal blades. Proper handling of the ma- chine will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the blade. u Only use replacement cutters, lines, cutting heads and blades specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect re- placement parts may increase the risk of breakage and in- jury. Blade thrust related warnings u Blade thrust is the sudden sideward, upward or backward motion of the machine, occurring when the blade is caught or snagged on an object such as a stump or small tree. It can be so severe that the machine and/or the op- erator are thrown in any direction, possibly leading to loss of control over the machine. Blade impact and associated hazards can be avoided by taking the safety precautions described below. u Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the machine and position your arms to resist blade thrust. Position your body to the left side of the machine. Blade thrust can increase the risk of injury due to the machine moving unexpectedly. Blade thrust can be controlled by the oper- ator if proper precautions are taken. u If the blade binds, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, switch the machine off and hold the machine motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. While the blade is binding, never at- tempt to remove the machine from the material or pull the machine backward while the blade is in motion, otherwise blade thrust may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding. u Do not use blunt or damaged blades. Blunt or damaged blades increase the risk of jamming or catching on an ob- ject, resulting in blade thrust. u Always maintain good visibility of the material being cut. Blade thrust is more likely to occur in areas where it is difficult to see the material being cut. u If you are approached by another person while operat- ing the machine, switch the machine off. There is an in- creased risk of injury to other persons being struck by the moving blade in the event of blade thrust. Special Safety Warnings u Keep guards in place. Guards must be in working or- der and be properly mounted. A guard that is loose, damaged, or is not functioning correctly may result in per- sonal injury. u Never allow children, persons with physical, sensory or mental limitations or a lack of experience and/or know- ledge and/or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the machine. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. u Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the machine. u Do not operate the product with the cutting blade in close proximity to the mains/extension cable. u Check the product for damage if it hits a hard object or in case of excessive vibration. u When shortening the cutting line, take care not to cut yourself. u When switching off the product, always make sure that the motor and cutting head have come to a complete standstill. u Cut high and dense grass in stages to achieve uniform cut- ting results. (seefigureN) u The dome washer(24) is used to slightly support the product during use to protect the blade from obstacles such as trees. u During use, the normal operation of the machine should not be interrupted by the dome washer when the device is positioned on the floor. u When inserting the battery, make sure that the cutting blade does not make contact with your body and other objects, including the floor. The cutting blade may rotate during start-up and cause injury or damage to the product and/or objects. u Do not over reach and keep your balance at all times. Al- ways be sure of your footing on slopes. Walk, never run. u In case of prolonged use, we recommend to take appro- priate breaks. u Prolonged use of the product (or other machines) expos- ing the operator to vibrations may produce white finger disease (Raynaud’s phenomenon) or carpal tunnel syn- drome. u These conditions reduce the hand’s ability to feel and reg- ulate temperature, can lead to numbness and burning sensations and may cause nerve and circulation damage and tissue necrosis. u Contact your doctor if you experience symptoms of over- exposure to vibration. These symptoms include numb- F 016 L94 542 | (07.02.2023) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 17 ness, loss of feeling, tingling, pricking, pain, loss of strength, changes in skin colour or condition. These symptoms normally appear in the fingers, hands or wrists. Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery Pack u Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuit- ing. Protect the battery against heat (e.g., against continuous intense sunlight), fire, water, and moisture. There is a risk of explo- sion. u When not using the machine, keep the battery not in use away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that could cause bridging of the terminals. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. u In case of damage and improper use of the battery pack, vapours may be emitted. Ventilate the area and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system. u Only use the battery with products from the manufac- turer. This is the only way in which you can protect the battery against dangerous overload. u The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit may occur, causing the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat. u Do not short-circuit the battery. Pro-Tap To feed the line simply tap the trimmer spool onto the ground. The Pro-Tap system will release approximately 10mm of line to each side of the spool. If the line has broken off close to the eyelet, tapping should be repeated a few times in order to cut at the full 33cm dia- meter. EasyWind The EasyWind spool feature enables line loading without the need to disassemble the spool. In case the spool needs reloading with line: – cut off 3m of the cutting line accessory, – align the arrows on the spool with the line feed button, – insert the line through the eyelet marked 'line in' and pull it through the other side. Measure an equal amount of line on both sides, – use the line feed button to wind the line onto the spool by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction (see arrows on spool) until approximately 10cm of line is left on each side. Anti-Tangle The tool is equipped with an Anti-Tangle feature that ensures continuous working without interruption. It senses if grass is blocking the shaft and if detected, the motor will reverse the spool anti-clockwise for 3sec in order to remove the blockage. If the blockage is successfully re- moved the tool will continue to operate normally, in a clock- wise direction. For further assistance please refer to chapter Troubleshoot- ing. "Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work (an example is provided in the Appendix below). For the purposes of this definition, "submitted" means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent to the Licensor or its representa- tives, including but not limited to communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but exclu- ding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contri- bution." If You institute patent litigation against any entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed.

The contents of the NO- TICE file are for informational purposes only and do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed as modifying the Licen- se. You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this Licen- se. 5. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibili- ty, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additio- nal liability.
