Frequently Asked Questions - FT 12 Weller

How to install the Weller FT 12?
Connect the system to a clean, dry compressed air supply (3.5 to 6 bar). Connect the vacuum hoses of the FE soldering irons directly. A shut-off valve can be installed. Refer to the manual for connection diagrams.
What types of filters are used in the FT 12?
The FT 12 uses a compact filter comprising a particle filter class E12 and a broadband gas filter (50% activated carbon, 50% Puratex). A pre-filter class F7 for fine dust is also installed.
How often should the filters be replaced?
The pre-filter can be replaced several times before the compact filter. The compact filter must be changed at least once a year or after 10 pre-filter replacements, or if the concentration limit values are exceeded.
Can I extract other fumes besides soldering fumes?
No, the FT 12 is designed only for soldering fumes. It cannot aspirate combustible gases, liquids, or particles not suitable for the filter medium.
What is the sound level of the FT 12?
The sound level at 1 meter distance is 39 dB(A), making it quiet during normal operation.
Does the FT 12 require an electrical power supply?
No, it operates only with compressed air (3.5 to 6 bar). No electrical connection is required.
How to clean the extraction system?
Regularly clean the vacuum hose and the suction tube of the soldering iron. In case of heavy soiling, soak the tube in cleaning alcohol in a closed container. Follow safety instructions for alcohols.
Can I use the FT 12 in recirculation mode?
Yes, thanks to the exhaust air filter with activated carbon, the air is filtered and returned to the room without the need for external exhaust.
What to do if the suction power decreases?
First check the condition of the pre-filter. Replace it if necessary. If the problem persists, check the compact filter and compressed air connections.
Where can I find spare parts for the FT 12?
Use only original Weller parts. Visit www.weller-tools.com or contact an authorized distributor.

Weller FT 12 - FT 12 - 2

Weller FT 12 - FT 12 - 3

Read these instructions and the accompanying safety information carefully before starting up the

device and starting work with the device.

Keep these instructions in a place that is accessible to all users.

Safety informatione

WARNING!

Even when using an extraction system, the statutory pollutant limits at the workplace must be complied with and regularly checked by the operator of the extraction system

Specified Conditions Of Useg

The Weller solder fume extraction system is equipped with a maintenance-free compressed air converter for vacuum generation and is, therefore, ideally suited for continuous industrial operation. The compressed air converter is designed sufficiently to extract the soldering fumes from 2 Weller Fumex-Extraction soldering irons.

FT12 - The solder fume extraction (FT12) is not suitable for extracting flammable gas.

This filtration system is suitable for the extraction and filtration of particles and gases, depending on the filter medium used.

The unit is designed for extracting fumes directly from the soldering gun and is not suitable for use as a surface extraction unit.

This device may only be used at room temperature and indoors.

WARNING! | Danger of asphyxiation ,Danger of

poisoning

Improper use may result in respiratory problems, asphyxiation, poisoning or cancer

Particles and gases which are unsuitable for the filter medium in use may not be extracted.

Liquids and flammable gases may not be extracted

WARNING! Fire and explosion hazard!

The unit is not permitted to be used for the extraction of inflammable gases.

The unit must not be exposed to temperatures above 50^ C, naked flame or condensed solvents.

The organisation operating the unit is responsible for the observance of the legal limits for noxious substances at the place of work.

The filtration system may only be put into operation if it is in perfect working order.

Intended use of the soldering station/ desoldering station also includes the requirement that you

  • adhere to these instructions,
  • observe all other accompanying documents,
  • observe all other accompanying documents,
  • comply with national accident prevention guidelines applicable at the place of use.

The manufacturer will not be liable for unauthorized modifications to the device.

Operation

WFE

The vacuum hoses of the FE soldering irons are connected directly to the solder fume extraction WFE.

Cleaned, dry compressed air (3.5 bar - 6 bar) is required to operate the WFE. It is possible to switch off the compressed air by means of a shut-off valve at the compressed air connection of the unit.

Shut-off valve possible at the compressed air connection of the device.

A built-in lift for filter replacement allows the filter cartridge and pre-filter to be replaced easily without tools.

The installed 3-stage filter – fine dust filter F7, particle filter class E12 and broadband gas filter (50% activated carbon, 50% Puratex) – is matched to the extraction of soldering fumes in this combination. Particle filter and gas filter are included in the main filter cartridge. Both filter elements are disposable filters, whereby the fine dust filter (pre-filter) can be replaced several times before the main filter cartridge has to be renewed.

Together with the exhaust air filter (activated carbon), which absorbs odours caused by compressed air, the WFE is used as a recirculation unit. It is not necessary to discharge the exhaust air.

FT12

To remove the compressed air hose, press the release ring of the quick coupling and pull out the hose.

Particle filter and gas filter are included in the main filter cartridge. Both filter elements are disposable filters, whereby the fine dust filter (pre-filter) can be replaced several times. The main filter cartridge must be replaced after max. 12 months.

WARNING

Even when using an extraction system, the statutory pollutant limits at the workplace must be complied with and regularly checked by the operator of the extraction system.

Care and maintenance

WARNING!

Before maintenance work, the unit must be depressurised. To ensure that the device works as correctly, the vacuum tube and the extraction hose of the FE soldering iron must be cleaned on a regular basis. If heavily soiled, the extraction tube can be placed in a sealed, gastight container and soaked in cleaning alcohol (ethanol) until the flux residues have dissolved.

WARNING!

Legal safety regulations on the handling of cleaning products must be observed when using such products. The cleaning product should be treated as hazardous waste.

If the extraction capacity is no longer sufficient with cleaned FE soldering irons, the filters must be checked.

The pre-filter can be replaced several times before the main filter has to be renewed.

If original Weller filters are used properly, the service life of the particle filter and broadband gas filter are matched to each other.

Before fitting the new main filter cartridge, it should be marked with the installation date. The assembly of the unit is done in reverse order.

Warning: When inserting the filters, pay attention to the correct order and the installation position. The dirty filters must be treated as hazardous waste.

Repairs must always be referred to a Weller-trained specialist.

Weller FT 12 - WARNING! - 1

Use original replacement parts only.

Filter change

MIN 1x
Weller FT 12 - Filter change - 1

The suspended matter filter and the broadband gas filter are complementary to one another and can be replaced together as a compact filter. The fine dust filter (filter mat) is the preliminary stage of the compact filter and therefore must be replaced more frequently. It is strongly recommended that the compact filter be replaced after no more

than 10 fine dust filter changes.

To ensure that the filtration system functions properly, the filter must be replaced as follows:

• at least once a year or
- if the maximum allowable workplace concentration is exceeded or
• as per maintenance schedule

Contaminated filters must be treated as special waste. Wear suitable protective gear.

Notice

Different fluxes and flux constituents and the amount of and size of dust particles in the extracted air will signifi cantly effect the filters working life. Submicron particles in the extracted air increase when soldering or welding to varnish insulated wire.

Warranty

Claims by the buyer for physical defects are time-barred after a period of one year from delivery to the buyer. This does not apply to claims by the buyer for indemnification in accordance with §§ 478, 479 BGB (German Federal Law Gazette).

We shall only be liable for claims arising from a warranty furnished by us if the quality or durability warranty has been furnished by use in writing and using the term „Warranty“.

The warranty shall be void if damage is due to improper use and if the device has been tampered with by unauthorized persons.

Subject to technical alterations and amendments.
