Explanation of the symbols on the product Symbols are used in this manual to draw your attention to potential hazards. The safety symbols and the accompa- nying explanations must be fully understood. 3. Scope of delivery
The device is suitable for digging over soil (e.g. gar- den beds). Be sure to observe the restrictions in the safety instructions. The user instructions also contain the operating, main- tenance and servicing conditions. For safety reasons, the device must not be used as a drive unit for other work tools or tool sets of any kind. The machine may only be used in the intended man- ner. Any use beyond this is improper. The user/operator, not the manufacturer, is responsi- ble for damages or injuries of any type resulting from this. Please note that our products were not designed with the intention of use for commercial or industrial purpos- es. We assume no guarantee if the product is used in commercial or industrial applications, or for equivalent work.

It includes important instructions for the safe, proper and econom- ic operation of the product, for avoiding danger, for min- imising repair costs and downtimes and for increasing the reliability and extending the service life of the prod- uct. In addition to the safety instructions in this operat- ing manual, you must also observe the regulations ap- plicable to the operation of the product in your country. Familiarise yourself with all operating and safety in- structions before using the product. Only operate the product as described and for the specied areas of ap- plication. Keep the operating manual in a good place and hand over all documents when passing the product on to third parties.
- Never override protective devices (e.g. by tying the take-o lever).
- Children should not be left unattended, to ensure they do not play with the device.
- Before starting your device, ensure that no object or branch is pushed into the blade opening, that the device is stable and that the work area is tidy and not blocked. Check the condition of your extension cable and the connection lead of your device. Use the required protective devices.
- If your device exhibits unusual vibrations or noises when you switch it on, unplug the mains plug from the socket and check the cutting roller. Ensure that no stones or branches are blocking the cutting roller or are trapped between the blades. If you do not de- termine any problems, return the device to a service centre.
- If the blades no longer dig correctly or if the motor is overloaded, check all parts of your device and re- place the worn parts. If a more extensive repair is necessary, contact a service centre. Use:
- Caution - Sharp tool. Do not cut your ngers or toes. Always keep feet and ngers away from the roller when working. There is a danger of injury!
- Do not use the device in the rain, in bad weather, in damp surroundings or wet grass. Only work in daylight or with good lighting. Do not work with the device when you are tired or are unfocused or af- ter taking drugs or tablets. Always take breaks from work in good time. Remain sensible when working.
- Familiarise yourself with your environment and pay attention to possible hazards that you may not hear due to the noise from the motor.
- Ensure you have secure footing when working, par- ticularly on slopes. Always work across a slope, nev- er upwards or downwards.
- Take particular care when changing direction on a slope. Do not work on excessively steep slopes.
- Only guide the device at slow pace and with both hands on the handle. Take particular care when re- versing the device or pulling it towards you. Risk of tripping!
- Start or operate the start lever with care according to the instructions in this manual.
- Do not tilt the device when starting it unless it needs to be lifted. In this case, only tilt the device as far as absolutely required and only lift the side away from the operator.
5. General safety instructions
m WARNING - Read all safety information, in- structions, illustrations and technical data for this product. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” used in the safety instructions re- fers to mains-powered power tools (with a mains cable) and battery-powered power tools (without a mains cable). General safety instructions This device can cause serious injuries in the event of misuse. Before working with the device, read the oper- ating manual carefully and familiarise yourself with all control parts. Store this manual in a safe place so that the information is available at any time. Working with the device: Caution! The device can cause serious injuries. It will help you avoid accidents and injuries: Preparation:
- The device is not suitable for use by children.
- Never allow children or other persons who do not know the operating manual to use the device. Local provisions can determine the minimum age of the operator.
- This device is not designed to be operated by per- sons (including children) with impaired physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or who have insuf- cient experience and/or insucient knowledge unless they are being supervised by a person who is responsible for their safety or they are receiving instruction about how this device is to be used.
- Never use the device when persons and especially if children or pets are nearby.
- Check the area in which the device is to be used and remove any stones, sticks, wires, or other foreign objects that could be caught and ejected.
- Always wear suitable work clothing such as sturdy shoes with non-slip soles, sturdy long trousers, ear protection and safety goggles. Do not use the device if barefoot or wearing open sandals.
- Do not work with a damaged, incomplete or modied device without the manufacturer's consent. Do not work with damaged or missing protective devices (e.g. start lever, release button, impact protection).www.scheppach.com
- Make sure that all nuts, bolts and screws are secure- ly tightened so that the device is in a safe working condition.
- Do not try to repair the device yourself unless you have been trained to do so. All work that is not spec- ied in this manual may only be carried out by cus- tomer service centres authorised by us.
- Handle your device with care. Keep tools clean in or- der to be able to work better and more safely. Follow the maintenance instructions.
- Do not overload your device. Only work in the spec- ied power range. Do not use low-output machines for heavy work. Do not use your device for purposes for which it is not intended. Electrical safety: Caution! To avoid accidents and injuries due to elec- tric shock:
- Before each use, visually inspect the mains and ex- tension cables for signs of damage or ageing.
- Keep the mains cable away from the cutting tools. If the lead is damaged during use, disconnect it from the mains immediately. Do not touch the lead until it is disconnected from the mains.
- Keep the extension leads away from the tines. The tines can damage the leads and lead to contact with active parts.
- Do not connect a damaged lead to the mains and do not touch a damaged lead until it is disconnected from the mains. A damaged lead can lead to contact with active parts.
- Ensure that the mains voltage corresponds to the specications on the type plate.
- If possible, only connect the device to a socket outlet with a residual current protective device (RCD) with a tripping current of no more than 30 mA.
- Avoid body contact with earthed parts (e.g. metal fences, metal posts).
- Only use approved extension cables of the type H05VV-F, which are no longer than 75 m and are intended for outdoor use. The conductor core cross-section of the extension cable must be at least
. Always unroll a cable drum completely be- fore use. Check the cable for damage.
- Use the intended cable strain relief for attaching the extension cable.
- Do not use the cable to pull the plug out of the outlet. Protect the cable from heat, oil and sharp edges.
- When the device is placed back on the ground af- ter being lifted, both hands must be in the working position.
- Do not use the device in the vicinity of ammable uids or gases. There is a risk of re or explosion if disregarded. Work interruption:
- After switching o the device, the roller still turns for a few seconds. Keep hands and feet away.
- Only adjust the working depth of the device when it is at a standstill
- Do not touch the tines until the device is discon- nected from the mains and the tines have come to a complete stop.
- Only remove the earth when the device is at a stand- still.
- Switch o the device when transporting, lifting or tip- ping it and when crossing surfaces other than those being machined.
- Never leave the device unattended at the workplace.
- Switch the device o and pull out the mains plug: - Whenever you leave the machine, - before cleaning the blade or removing blockages or obstructions, - when the device is not being used, - during all maintenance and cleaning work, - if the mains cable is damaged or tangled, - if the device encounters an obstacle while work- ing or if unusual vibrations occur. In this case, investigate the device for damage and have it repaired if necessary.
- Store the device in a dry place and out of reach of children. Caution! In this way you avoid damage to the device and any personal injury resulting from it: Maintain your device
- Switch o and lift the device when transporting it up and down stairs.
- Always carry out a visual inspection of the unit be- fore use. Do not use the device if safety devices (e.g. impact protection), parts of the cutting device or bolts are missing, worn or damaged. Check es- pecially the mains cable and the starting lever for damage. To prevent an imbalance, damaged tools and bolts may only be replaced in sets.
- Only use spare or accessory parts which are sup- plied or recommended by the manufacturer. Using third-party parts leads to a loss of guarantee claims.www.scheppach.com

- Open the packaging and carefully remove the product.
- Remove the packaging material, as well as the pack- aging and transport safety devices (if present).
- Check whether the scope of delivery is complete.
- Check the product and accessory parts for transport damage. In the event of complaints the carrier must be informed immediately. Later claims will not be recognised.
- If possible, keep the packaging until the expiry of the warranty period.
- Familiarise yourself with the product by means of the operating manual before using for the rst time.
- With accessories as well as wearing parts and re- placement parts use only original parts. Spare parts can be obtained from your specialist dealer.
- When ordering please provide our article number as well as type and year of manufacture for the product.
- Switch o the device and disconnect the mains plug from the socket if the connection lead is damaged. If the connection cable of this unit is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their service department or a similar qualied person in order to avoid hazards.
- If the connection lead is damaged, rst unplug the extension cable from the socket. You can then re- move the connection lead of the device.
- If the connection cable is damaged then it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their customer ser- vices personnel or by a similarly qualied person, in order to avoid hazards. Warning! This power tool generates an electromagnet- ic eld during operation. This eld can impair active or passive medical implants under certain circumstances. In order to prevent the risk of serious or deadly injuries, we recommend that persons with medical implants consult with their physician and the manufacturer of the medical implant prior to operating the power tool.
The product has been built according to state-of-the- art and the recognised technical safety rules. However, individual residual risks can arise during operation.

Tighten the locknut (19) by hand using a spanner or ratchet with socket (tools not included in the scope of delivery). To disassemble: Proceed in reverse order.
m Attention! Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning! Switching the machine on/o (Fig. 7) To prevent the motor hoe from being switched on un- intentionally, the handle (1) is equipped with a release button (12) which must be pressed before the on/o switch (13) can be pressed. When the on/o switch (13) is released, the motor hoe switches o. Perform this procedure a few times to be sure that your device is working correctly. Before carrying out any repair or maintenance work on the device, make sure that the cutting roller (6) does not turn and that the device is disconnected from the mains. The safety distance between the housing and the us- er given by the handle (1) must always be maintained. Special care must be taken when working on embank- ments and slopes. Make sure you have a secure footing, wear shoes with non-slip, well gripping soles and long trousers. Always work across slopes. For safety reasons, slopes with an inclination of more than 15 degrees must not be machined with the motor hoe. Exercise particular caution when moving backwards and pulling the motor hoe, risk of tripping! Advice on how to work properly Move the motor hoe slowly and carefully forwards. Work the surfaces in straight lines. Allow them to over- lap slightly to avoid leaving any streaks. Only use the device on soil that has already been loosened. It must not be used to dig over lawns. Transport and storage (Fig. 10/12) Disconnect the device from the mains plug before transport! Pull out the safety split pin (17). You can now move the wheels (7) to the lower position. Make sure that the safety split pin (17) clicks back into place in the lower position. (Fig. 10) m Attention! The wheels must be xed in the upper position during operation! m WARNING! The product and the packaging material are not children's toys! Do not let children play with plas- tic bags, lms or small parts! There is a danger of choking or suocating!
Before connecting, make certain that the data on the type plate matches with the mains power data. Warning! Always remove the mains plug before working on the product! The motor hoe is partially disassembled upon deliv- ery. The handle and the transport device must be t- ted before using the motor hoe. Follow the instruction manual step by step and use the gures as a guide to make assembly easy for you. Installation (Fig. 3-9) m Attention! Always make sure the device is fully assembled before commissioning!
- Connect the upright (3) and the handle (1) to the lower bars (4) using the wing nut (9) and carriage bolt (8). (Fig. 3/4) Laying the mains cable (Fig. 5, 6, 7) Fit the cable and cable guide (11) to the right lower rail (4) and (in the direction of operation) to the upright (3) by clicking them into place. Installing the transport device (Fig. 8, 9) Remove the pre-tted safety split pin (16) and the washer (15). Fit the wheel (7) onto the wheel mounting (14). Secure it with the washer (15) and the safety split pin (16). Then t the wheel cap (8). (Assembly is iden- tical on both sides) Fitting the cutting roller (Fig. 11) Push the cutting roller (6) onto the drive shaft (20) of the device. The cutting rollers (6) can be tted on the right or left, as they are identical. Ensure that the hole in the cutting roller (6) and the hole in the drive shaft (20) are aligned. Now insert the M8 screw (18) and se- cure it with the M8 locknut (19).www.scheppach.com
Connections and repair work on the electrical equip- ment may only be carried out by electricians. Please provide the following information in the event of any enquiries:
- Type of current for the motor
- Machine data - type plate
- Motor data - type plate Connection type X If the mains connection cable of this product is dam- aged, it must be replaced by a specially prepared mains connection cable which can be obtained from the manufacturer or its service department.
Danger! Disconnect the mains plug before carrying out any cleaning work.
- Keep protective devices, air vents and the engine housing as free of dust and dirt as possible. Rub the product clean with a clean cloth or blow it o with compressed air at low pressure.
- We recommend that you clean the product directly after every use.
- Clean the product at regular intervals using a damp cloth and a little soft soap. Do not use any cleaning products or solvents; they could attack the plastic parts of the product. Make sure that no water can penetrate the interior of the product. Water penetra- tion increases the risk of an electric shock.
Store the product and its accessories in a dark, dry and frost-free place that is inaccessible to children. The optimum storage temperature lies between 5 and 30 ˚C. Store the product in its original packaging. Cover the product to protect it from dust or moisture. Store the operating manual with the product.
- A worn or damaged cutting roller should be re- placed by an authorised specialist.
- Ensure that all fastening elements (bolts, nuts, etc.) are always tightened so that it is safe to work with the motor hoe.
- Store your motor hoe in a dry space. For storage or transport in conned spaces, proceed as follows: Open the two wing nuts (10) until you can fold the han- dles forward. Attention! Danger of crushing on the bars. The machine can now be carried by the upright (3). This also allows the machine to be stored optimally.
11. Electrical connection
The electrical motor installed is connected and ready for operation. The connection complies with the appli- cable VDE and DIN provisions. The customer's mains connection as well as the exten- sion cable used must also comply with these regulations. Damaged electrical connection cable The insulation on electrical connection cables is often damaged. This may have the following causes:
- Pressure points, where connection cables are passed through windows or doors.
- Kinks where the connection cable has been improp- erly xed or routed.
- Places where the connection cables have been cut due to being driven over.
- Insulation damage due to being ripped out of the wall outlet.
- Cracks due to the insulation ageing. Such damaged electrical connection cables must not be used and are life-threatening due to the insulation damage. Check the electrical connection cables for damage regu- larly. Ensure that the connection cables are disconnected from electrical power when checking for damage. Electrical connection cables must comply with the ap- plicable VDE and DIN provisions. Only use connection cables of the same designation. The printing of the type designation on the connection cable is mandatory. AC motor
- The mains voltage must be ~230-240 V / 50 Hz.
- Extension cables up to 25 m long must have a cross section of 1.5 mm

16. Disposal and recycling
Notes for packaging The packaging materials are recy- clable. Please dispose of packag- ing in an environmentally friendly manner. Notes on the electrical and electronic equipment act (ElektroG) Waste electrical and electronic equipment does not belong in household waste, but must be collected and disposed of sepa- rately!
- Used batteries or rechargeable batteries that are not installed permanently in the old device must be removed non-destructively before disposal! Their disposal is regulated by the battery act.
- Owners or users of electrical and electronic devices are legally obliged to return them after use.
- The end user is responsible for deleting their per- sonal data from the old device being disposed of!
- The symbol of the crossed-out dustbin means that waste electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with household waste.
- Waste electrical and electronic equipment can be handed in free of charge at the following places: - Public disposal or collection points (e.g. municipal works yards). - Points of sale of electrical devices (stationary and online), provided that dealers are obliged to take them back or oer to do so voluntarily. - Up to three waste electrical devices per type of device, with an edge length of no more than 25 centimetres, can be returned free of charge to the manufacturer without prior purchase of a new device from the manufacturer or taken to another authorised collection point in your vicinity.
- All screwed parts as well as the wheels and axles should be cleaned and then oiled to ensure a long service life.
- Regular maintenance of the motor hoe will not only ensure its durability and performance, but will al- so help to dig your owerbed carefully and easily.
- Perform a general check of the motor hoe at the end of the season and remove all accumulated debris. Always check the condition of the motor hoe prior to the start of the season. Contact our customer service centre for repairs. Carbon brushes If excessive sparks are formed, have an electrician check the carbon brushes. Danger! The carbon brushes must only be replaced by an electrician.
15. Repair & ordering spare parts
After repairs or maintenance, make sure that all safe- ty-related parts are installed and are in perfect con- dition. All parts which may cause injury must be kept where they are inaccessible to children or others. Attention: According to the German Product Liability Act, no liability is accepted for damage caused by im- proper repairs or by not using original spare parts. Such work should be performed by a customer service centre or an authorised specialist. The same applies to accessory parts. Spare parts and accessories can be obtained from our Service Centre. To do this, scan the QR code on the front page. Connections and repairs Connections and repair work on the electrical equip- ment may only be carried out by electricians. Please provide the following information in the event of any queries:
- Type of current for the motor
- These statements only apply to devices installed and sold in the countries of the European Union and which are subject to the European Directive 2012/19/EU. In countries outside the European Un- ion, dierent regulations may apply to the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment. - Further supplementary take-back conditions of the manufacturers and distributors can be ob- tained from the respective customer service.
- If the manufacturer delivers a new electrical device to a private household, the manufacturer can ar- range for the free collection of the old electrical de- vice upon request from the end user. Please contact the manufacturer’s customer service for this.
