9.2 Filling in fuel (Fig. 5)

DANGER Risk of fire and explosion! Only fill the fuel when the engine is switched off and has cooled down. Do not smoke when refuelling the product. DANGER Risk of fire and explosion! When filling, fuel may ignite and even explode. This can lead to severe burns or death. Keep containers for fuel and fuel-oil mixture separate to avoid misfuelling with normal petrol.

  • Always use fresh fuel/oil mixture.
  • Keep heat, flames and sparks away.
  • Only fill up with fuel outdoors.
  • Wear protective gloves.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
  • Start the product at a distance of at least 3 m from the fuel filling point.
  • Watch out for leaks. If fuel is leaking, do not start the engine.
  • Use a suitable funnel or filler pipe for refuelling so that no fuel can spill onto the combustion engine and housing. Do not overfill the fuel tank!

1. Mix the fuel as described in 9.1.

2. Clean the area surrounding the filling area. Impurities

in the fuel tank (9) lead to operational faults. Shake the oil-petrol mixture bottle (16) with the fuel mixture again before filling it into the fuel tank (9).

3. Carefully open the tank cover (8) so that any possible

overpressure can be relieved.

4. Pour the fuel mixture into the fuel tank. Do not spill fu-

el when refuelling and do not fill the fuel tank to the brim.

5. Always wipe up spilled fuel immediately.

6. Turn the tank cover (8) clockwise to close it.

9.3 Fitting the carrying strap (3) (Fig.6)

1. Put the product on your back like a backpack.

2. Close the buckles (3a) and tighten the straps (3) by

pulling on their ends.

1. Lift the clamping sliders of the buckles (3a) to loosen

the carrying straps (3).

2. Open the buckles (3a).

10 Operation ATTENTION Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning! WARNING Please observe the legal provisions from the noise pro- tection ordinance. WARNING Move at least 3 m away from the refuelling area before starting the engine. WARNING Danger of injury! If you direct the airflow at people, animals or objects, this can cause injury and damage. – Direct the air flow away from you. – Never direct the airflow at other people, animals or objects. – Do not blow away hard objects such as stones or branches. 30 | GB www.scheppach.comWARNING Danger of injury Objects hurled away and rotating parts can cause se- vere injuries. – Make sure that other persons maintain a sufficient safety distance. – Keep uninvolved persons away from the product. – Hold the product in front of you. – Never point the product at yourself, other people or animals. – Always make sure that no objects or dust are blown in the direction of people or animals and make sure that objects will not be damaged. – Always observe the wind direction and never work against the wind.

10.1 Start the engine (Fig. 7)

DANGER Danger of poisoning! Only use the product outdoors and never in closed or poorly ventilated rooms. ATTENTION – Always pull the pull starter out straight. – Hold the handle of the pull starter firmly when the pull starter winds back in. – Do not let the pull starter whip back in. This can re- sult in damage. – Do not pull the pull starter all the way out. This pre- vents the starter cable breaking. – In case of cool weather, it may be necessary to re- peat the starting process numerous times. Notes:

  • Set the product down on a solid surface before start- ing the engine.
  • Only use the fuel pump “primer” when the engine is cold!
  • If the engine is being started for the first time, several tries are required to start until the fuel has been deliv- ered from the tank to the engine.

10.1.1 Starting with a cold engine (Fig.7,8)

When the engine is "cold":

1. Set the choke lever (6) to the “ ” position.

2. Press the on/off switch (1) to the on position.

3. Press the primer (22) 7 times.

4. Pull the pull starter (7) 3 to 5 times to start the engine.

5. Once the engine is running, wait a short time and then

set the choke lever (6) to the “ ” position.

6. Use the throttle (11) to control the speed of the engine

and thus the air flow. With high outside temperatures, it may be necessary to start the engine without the choke even when the engine is cold!

10.1.2 Starting with a warm engine (Fig.7,8)

The product was stopped for less than 15-20 minutes. When the engine is "warm":

1. Set the choke lever (6) to the “ ” position.

1. Press the on/off switch (1) to the on position.

2. Pull the pull starter (7) to start the engine.

3. Use the throttle (11) to control the speed of the engine

and thus the air flow. Note:

  • If the engine does not start even after several at- tempts, read the 17 chapter.

10.2 Adjusting the idle speed (Fig.7)

Idling speed adjustment is necessary when the engine tends to die off or when no significant speed differences are detected when using the choke lever (6). The adjust- ment is made after starting the engine at the adjusting screw (23). Let the engine idle for a few minutes before making the adjustment.

1. Turn the adjusting screw (23) clockwise to increase

2. Turn the adjusting screw (23) anticlockwise to reduce

the idle speed. When adjusted, the engine should run smoothly at idle speed without any irregularities or pauses.

10.3 Switch off the engine (Fig.7,8)

1. Separately, operate the locking lever (11a) to set the

2. Set the ON/OFF switch (1) to “0”.

10.3.1 Emergency stop procedure

1. If it is necessary to stop the product immediately,

switch the on/off switch (1) to “0”.

  • Always switch the product off before placing it down and wait until the product has come to a standstill.
  • Allow the product to cool.
  • When the product is not in use, remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug.

10.4 Continuous operation (Fig.7,8)

1. Start the motor as described in 10.1.

2. Press the throttle (11) down completely.

12.2.1 Replace and clean the spark plug (5a)

(Fig.9) Electrode gap = 0.6 mm (distance between the elec- trodes, between which the ignition spark is generated). Check the spark plug for dirt for the first time after 10 op- erating hours and clean it with a copper wire brush if nec- essary. Then service the spark plug every 50operating hours.

1. Pull the spark plug connector (5) off the spark plug

(5a) and turn the spark plug (5a) out using the installa- tion spanner (17) provided.

2. Clean the spark plug (5a) with a copper wire brush*.

– If the electrode is worn excessively or if it is very encrusted, the spark plug (5a) must be replaced with one of the same type. – Heavy incrustation on the spark plug (5a) can be caused by: Too high a proportion of oil in the fuel mixture, poor oil quality, outdated fuel mixture, or blocked air filter (10b).

3. Screw the spark plug (5a) into the thread completely

by hand. Avoid tilting the spark plug (5a).

4. Tighten the spark plug (5a) with the supplied installa-

tion spanner (17) provided. 32 | GB www.scheppach.com12.2.2 Clean the air filter (10b) (Fig.10) ATTENTION Fouled air filters diminish the engine output due to reduced air supply to the carburettor. Regular inspection is therefore essential. ATTENTION Never clean the air filter with petrol or combustible sol- vents.

1. Press down the locking mechanism (10a) and open

the air filter cover (10).

2. Remove the air filter (10b).
