INTRODUCTION
The product accurately folds metal sheets. Quick adjust for different sheet metal gauges.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.
Unscrew the four bolts securing the brake to the shipping crate when unpacking it. Contents:
• Metal Bending Brake
• Level Plate for Stand x 2
- Brake Stand x 2
• Hardware (see Parts List)
ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List.
Two people are necessary to assemble the brake and stand, due to the weight of the components.
- Attach a level plate for stand (#8) to a brake stand (#3) using M10x30 screws (#22), 10 mm washers (#19), 10 mm spring washers (#13) and M10 nuts (#15). Repeat to assemble the other stand.
EN
- Place the hand brake's back side on the floor with the square mounting feet facing forward.
- Place the brake stand (#3) mounting pad against the brake's square mounting foot.
- Secure the mounting pad to the mounting foot with M10x30 screws (#22), 10 mm washers (#19), 10 mm spring washers (#13) and M10 nuts (#15). Tighten all bolts to secure the stand. Repeat to attach the other stand.
- Carefully lift the brake and stand in the upright position.
- Position the stand in the area it will be used. Make sure there is enough room to safely operate the tool before securing it to the floor. Confirm there are no pipes or conduits below the floor surface that will be damaged by drilling.
- Drill four mounting holes into the floor and secure the brake with four bolts, lock washers and nuts (not supplied). Expansion anchor bolts are recommended for concrete floors. Lag bolts are recommended for wooden floors.
OPERATION
The product applies force to the metal stock along the press plate to create a clean bend. The maximum thickness (gauge) is based on the metal's material (type) and length. Check the sheet's thickness with a caliper and consult Table 1 before attempting to bend the sheet.
When a caliper is unavailable, attempt to bend the stock. If it does not easily bend it is too thick for the tool
or the product requires an adjustment. Do not attempt to apply more force, as it can damage the tool.
Do not use with material that exceeds the width and thickness listed.
- Make sure the upper Eccentric Handles (#10-01 and 10-02) are all the way down before opening the upper press plate assembly.
- Mark the stock with a bend line.
- Slide the stock between the body and press plate assembly. Align the bend line with the inner lip of the body.
EN
- Lift both upper eccentric handles into the locked position. This will cause the upper press plate assembly to clamp down on the stock. When the plate does not come down fully and refuses to lock, one of two issues are at fault.
a. The stock is greater than 12 gauge. This tool cannot be used to bend the stock. Attempting to do so can damage the tool.
b. The product requires adjustment to accommodate the gauge. Refer to the Adjustments section below to correct the gap for the stock.
-
Grasp both lower handles on the body and pull upward until the stock reaches the desired angle. Keep both hands on the handles to ensure an even distribution of pressure. Once the bend is complete, return the lower handles to their original position.
-
Rotate both eccentric handles all the way down and remove the sheet metal. Beware of sharp edges created by the bending process.
ADJUSTMENTS
It may become necessary to adjust the position of the press plate assembly to accommodate a thicker or thinner piece of sheet metal or to properly align it to the body.
ADJUSTING FOR THICKNESS OF SHEET METAL
- Lift both eccentric handles (#10) all the way up.
- Loosen the nuts (#18) on each hub to enable the eccentric handles to freely move up or down during the adjustment.
- Turn the nut to raise or lower the press plate assembly. Count the number of turns.
a. Turn clockwise to lower the press plate assembly to narrow the gap.
b. Turn counterclockwise to raise the press plate assembly and widen the gap. - Repeat the direction and count while turning the other nut. The press plate assembly must be flushed with the body when closed. Readjust if one side is not flush.
- Retighten the loose nuts.
ALIGN THE PRESS PLATE ASSEMBLY IN OR OUT
This adjustment will determine the roundness of the bend. The farther back the press plate assembly is compared to the body, the rounder the bend. Set the plate between 1/16 to 1/8 in.
EN
behind the body's inner edge. The thickness of the sheet metal may also require an additional adjustment.
- Lift both upper eccentric handles all the way up.
- Loosen the bolts (#21) on each side of the brake.
- Nudge each side of the press plate assembly in or out, based on the bend requirements.
- Confirm that the press plate assembly is parallel to the body's inner edge.
- Retighten both bolts.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
- Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
- Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
- Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
- Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
- Keep the tool handles clean, dry, and free from oil/grease at all times.
- Maintain the tool's labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
LUBRICATION
Inspect and lubricate the tool when required. Only use light oil to lubricate the tool. Other lubricants may not be suitable and could damage the tool or cause a malfunction during use.
STORAGE
When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the steel parts to avoid rust. Remove the lubricant before using the tool again.
