5. General safety instructions

General power tool safety warnings m WARNING! Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future ref- erence. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operat- ed (cordless) power tool.

a) Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Clut- tered or dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive at- mospheres, such as in the presence of am- mable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while op- erating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2. Electrical safety

a) The connection plug of the electric tool must t into the socket. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of elec- tric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of elec- tric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Keep your electric tools away from rain and moisture. Water penetrating an electric device increases the risk of an electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords in- crease the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. The machine complies with the applicable EC ma- chinery directive.

  • The safety, operating and maintenance specica- tions of the manufacturer, as well as the dimensions specied in the technical data, must be observed.
  • Relevant accident prevention regulations and oth- er generally recognized safety and technical rules must also be observed.
  • The machine may only be used, maintained or re- paired by competent persons who are familiar with it and have been informed of the dangers. The manu- facturer shall not be liable for damage resulting from unauthorised changes to the machine.
  • The machine may only be operated with original ac- cessories and original tools from the manufacturer.
  • The machine may only be used in the intended manner. Any use beyond this is improper. The user/ operator, not the manufacturer, is responsible for damages or injuries of any type resulting from this. Please note that our equipment was not designed with the intention of use for commercial or industrial purpos- es. We assume no guarantee if the device is used in commercial or industrial applications, or for equivalent work. Residual risks Despite use as intended, specic risk factors cannot be entirely eliminated. Due to the design and layout of the machine, the following risks remain:
  • Contact with the grinding disc in the uncovered area.
  • Ejection of parts from damaged grinding discs.
  • Ejection of workpieces and workpiece parts.
  • Hearing damage when the necessary hearing pro- tection is not used.
  • Lung damage if suitable dust protection mask is not worn.
  • Damage to health resulting from hand/arm vibration if the device is used over an extended period of time or if it is not properly operated and maintained.
  • Hazard due to electrical power with the use of im- proper electrical connection cables.
  • Furthermore, despite all precautions having been met, some non-obvious residual risks may still re- main.

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and o󰀨. Any power tool that can- not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjust- ments, changing accessories, or storing pow- er tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil- dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain electric tools and accessories with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any oth- er condition that may a󰀨ect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool re- paired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Always keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cut- ting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use electric tools, accessories and tool at- tachment, etc. according to these instructions. Take into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations di󰀨erent from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

a) Only have your power tool repaired by quali- ed specialists and only with original spare parts. This ensures that safety of the electric tool is maintained. m WARNING! This power tool generates an electro- magnetic eld during operation. This eld can impair active or passive medical implants under certain circum- stances. In order to prevent the risk of serious or deadly injuries, we recommend that persons with medical im- plants consult with their physician and the manufacturer of the medical implant prior to operating the power tool. f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs, alcohol or med- ication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Wear personal protective equipment and al- ways safety goggles. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, safety helmet or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the o󰀨-position before connecting to power source and/or rechargeable battery, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites acci- dents. d) Remove any adjusting tools or spanners/keys before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Avoid abnormal postures. Make sure that you have secure footing and always maintain your balance. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and cloth- ing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jew- ellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, en- sure these are connected and properly used. Using a dust extraction unit can reduce hazards caused by dust. h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ig- nore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4. Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct pow- er tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.www.scheppach.com

The workpiece becomes hot during grinding. Never touch it to the area to be machined and let it cool down su󰀩ciently. Particularly when sanding for a longer pe- riod of time, always interrupt the grinding process and allow the workpiece to cool down before you continue grinding. A continuous operation of 30 minutes should not be exceeded.

  • The double grinding machine is designed for dry surface grinding of metal surfaces. The device may only be used for dry grinding.
  • Do not machine material containing asbestos. As- bestos is considered carcinogenic. Do not use dam- aged grinding discs.
  • Only use grinding discs whose data match the ma- chine's type plate. The orbital velocity should be equal to or greater than the specied number.
  • Periodically readjust the protective holders (spark deectors) and protective panels so that the wear of the grinding discs is evened out. Keep the distance as low as possible.
  • Avoid contact with the running grinding disc.
  • Do not operate the device unattended.
  • Never misuse the device.
  • Always make sure that the device is switched o󰀨 be- fore inserting the mains plug into the socket.
  • Always switch on the device rst and then guide the workpiece against the grinding disc. After machin- ing, lift the workpiece and then switch o󰀨 the device.
  • Always hold the workpiece rmly with both hands.
  • Make sure that you have a secure footing.
  • Allow the grinding disc(s) to come to a complete stop after working on metals.
  • Always disconnect the mains plug from the socket during breaks in work, before carrying out any work on the device and when it is not in use.
  • Handle the device with care and attention. The device must always be clean, dry and free of oil or grease.
  • Remain attentive at all times! Always pay attention to what you are doing and always use common sense. Never use the device when you are not concentrated or feel unwell.
  • Grinding discs must be stored in such a way that they are not exposed to mechanical damage and damaging environmental inuences.
  • Do not use defective or deformed grinding discs.
  • Check the setting of the spark protection frequently and adjust it according to the wear of the grinding disc. Keep the distance between the spark protec- tion and the grinding disc as small as possible (not more than 2 mm). Safety instructions for table-top grinding machines a) Never use damaged tool attachments. Check tool attachments such as grinding discs for chipping and cracks before each use. Once you have checked and used the tool attach- ment, ensure that you and all other persons in the vicinity remain outside the plane of the rotating tool attachment and allow the device to run for 1 min. at the maximum speed. Dam- aged tool attachments usually break during this test period. b) The permissible rotational speed for tool at- tachments must be at least as high as the maximum speed cited on the electric tool. Ac- cessories which rotate faster than the maximum permissible rate can break and throw pieces into the air. c) Never grind on the side surfaces of the grind- ing disc. Grinding on the side surfaces can cause the grinding disc to break and fall apart. m Device-specic safety instructions for bench grinders
  • Do not touch the mains cable if it is damaged or cut during operation. Immediately disconnect the mains plug and then have the device repaired exclusively by a specialist or the responsible service centre.
  • Do not operate the device when it is damp or in a damp environment.
  • When working outdoors, connect the device via a residual current device (RCD) with a maximum trig- ger current of 30 mA. Only use an extension cable approved for outdoor use.
  • Pull the mains plug out of the socket immediately in the event of danger.
  • Always guide the mains cable backwards away from the device.
  • Fire hazard due to ying sparks! Flying sparks occur when grinding metals. Therefore, make ab- solutely sure that no persons are endangered and that there are no ammable materials near the work area. m Warning! Toxic vapours! Processing harmful/toxic dusts poses a health risk to the operator and anyone in the vicinity.

Duty cycle: The duty cycle S2 30 min (short-time duty) states that the engine may only be continuously loaded with the rated power (550W) for the time specied on the data plate (30 min). Keep the noise level and vibration to a minimum!

  • Only use faultless devices.
  • Maintain and clean the device at regular intervals.
  • Adapt your working methods to the device.
  • Do not overload the device.
  • Have the device checked if necessary.
  • Switch the device o󰀨 if it is not in use.
  • Some examples of means for reducing the vibration stress are wearing gloves while using the tool and lim- iting work time. In the process all parts of the operat- ing cycle must be taken into account (such as times in which the power tool is switched o󰀨 or time in which it is switched on, but is not running under a load).
  • Check the setting of the tool support frequently and adjust it according to the wear of the grinding disc. Keep the distance between the spark protection and the grinding disc as small as possible (not more than 2 mm).
  • Only use grinding discs whose hole ts exactly on the shaft of the bench grinder. Do not use grinding discs with too small a hole.
  • Do not overtighten the washer nut.
  • Do not grind with a cold grinding disc. Allow the grind- ing disc to idle for one minute before starting work.
  • Do not grind on the side surfaces of the grinding disc. Grind only on the front side.
  • Do not apply coolant directly on the grinding disc. Coolant can a󰀨ect the bond strength of the grinding disc, causing it to fail.
  • Sparks can be dangerous. Do not sand near am- mable gases or liquids.
  • Stand to the side of the grinding disc when switching on the device.
  • Only true the grinding disc on the front side. Grind- ing on the side surfaces can make the grinding disc too thin for safe use.
  • Grinding generates heat. Do not touch the work- piece until it has cooled down su󰀩ciently.
  • Only use grinding discs that are designed for safe use on the bench grinder. Do not use a grinding disc whose specied maximum rotational speed is lower than the speed specication of the device.

8. Before commissioning

Operating instructions Observe the following points before commissioning the bench grinder:

  • Actuate the main switch. Wait until the grinding disc reaches maximum speed. Only then should you start grinding.
  • Hold the workpiece rmly on the tool support and move slowly and evenly towards the grinding disc.
  • The grinding process can reduce the speed of the grinding disc. Then reduce the pressure slightly until the disc has reached its full speed again. m ATTENTION:
  • Small workpieces should be held in place with pliers or a similar tool.
  • Only grind on the face of the grinding disc, never on the sides.
  • As most materials become hot during grinding, the workpiece must be handled with extreme care.

m Attention! Always make sure the product is fully assembled before commissioning! Switching on/o󰀨

  • To switch on, set the ON/OFF switch (8) to the ON position.
  • To switch o󰀨, set the ON/OFF switch (8) to the OFF position. Do not start grinding until the device has reached its maximum speed. Working instructions
  • Note that the best results are achieved with low pressure of the workpiece on the grinding disc, as then work is done at a constant speed. Excessive pressure on the workpiece brakes the grinding disc or it comes to a standstill, this overloads the engine and does not accelerate the work process.
  • For your own safety, always secure small workpiec- es with a bench vice or screw clamp. Sanding
  • Place the workpiece on the workpiece support (4) and slowly move it towards the grinding disc (3) at the desired angle until it touches it.

Before connecting, make certain that the data on the type plate matches with the mains power data. Always pull out the mains plug before carrying out adjustments on the device. Pull out the mains plug before all maintenance and assembly work.

  • The machine must be stable, i.e. bolted down on a workbench or similar.
  • Prior to commissioning, all covers and safety devic- es must be mounted correctly.
  • The grinding disc must be able to run freely.
  • Before connecting the machine, make certain that the data on the type plate matches with the mains power data. m Safety instructions! Do not connect the device un- til all assembly and adjustment work has been complet- ed and the operating manual and safety instructions have been read and understood. Assembly Tool supports (Fig. 1/4) Screw the tool support (4) to the grinding disc guard using 2 hexagon head screws and 2 washers. The dis- tance between the grinding disc and the tool support must be set to max. 2 mm. Spark guard (Fig. 2) Screw the spark guard to the grinding disc guard using a Phillips head screw and washer. The distance to the grinding disc should be not more than 2 mm. Protective panels (Fig. 3, Fig. 4)

1. Fit the protective glass to the clamping plate using

2 M4 Phillips screws, washers and hexagon nuts.

2. The retaining bracket is inserted into the clamping

plate and clamped using the M6 mushroom-head screw with washer and nut.

3. Screw the complete unit to the grinding disc guard

with U-bolt, M8 hex screw and washer. The protection is individually adjustable so that the user's eyes are protected during the grinding process.www.scheppach.com

10. Cleaning and maintenance

Disconnect the mains plug before carrying out any cleaning work. Cleaning

  • Keep protective devices, air vents and the motor housing free from dust and dirt. Rub the device clean with a clean cloth or blow it o󰀨 with compressed air at low pressure.
  • Clean the device directly after every use.
  • Clean the device at regular intervals using a damp cloth and a little soft soap. Do not use any cleaning products or solvents; they could attack the plastic parts of the device. Make sure that no water can penetrate the device interior. Water penetrating an electric device increases the risk of an electric shock. Maintenance The device has no further internal parts that require maintenance. Service information With this product, it is necessary to note that the follow- ing parts are subject to natural or usage-related wear, or that the following parts are required as consumables. 11. Electrical connection

The electrical motor installed is connected and ready for operation. The connection complies with the applicable VDE and DIN provisions. The cus- tomer's mains connection as well as the extension cable used must also comply with these regula- tions. Installation, repairs and maintenance work on the electrical equipment may only be carried out by electricians. Important information The electric motor is designed for operating mode S

1. In the event of an overloading the motor will switch

itself o󰀨. After a cool-down period (time varies) the mo- tor can be switched back on again.

  • To obtain an optimum grinding result and to wear the grinding disc (3) evenly, the workpiece should be moved slightly back and forth on the grinding disc (3).
  • Always allow the workpiece to cool down. Attention! If the disc/wheel should jam while working, please remove your workpiece and wait until the device has reached its maximum speed again. Changing the grinding disc ATTENTION: To prevent injuries caused by acciden- tally starting the bench grinder, always switch o󰀨 the device (switch setting to “0”) and disconnect the mains plug from the socket before changing the grinding disc.
  • Loosen the spark protection and protective panel and pull them out as far as possible, but do not de- tach them.
  • Loosen the tool support and pull it out as far as pos- sible.
  • Remove the screws and pull o󰀨 the end plate.
  • Remove the outer ange and the old grinding disc, put on the new grinding disc. Note:
  • Do not remove the cardboard discs attached to the sides of the new grinding disc, as these help to safe- guard the anges' grip against the grinding disc.
  • Inspect the new grinding disc for cracks or other vis- ible damage and discard if necessary.
  • Replace the ange and nut.
  • Do not overtighten the nut with a spanner, otherwise the grinding disc may break.
  • Adjust the tool support, spark protection and protec- tive panel again according to the assembly instruc- tions. Grinding wheel extractor The grinding disc dresser is a tool used to level the grinding disc. Press lightly against the grinding disc without creating sparks. 13. Disposal and recycling

Notes for packaging The packaging materials are recyclable. Please dis- pose of packaging in an environmentally friendly manner. Notes on the electrical and electronic equipment act (ElektroG) Waste electrical and electronic equipment does not belong in household waste, but must be collected and disposed of sepa- rately!

  • Used batteries or rechargeable batteries that are not installed permanently in the old device must be removed non-destructively before disposal! Their disposal is regulated by the battery act.
  • Owners or users of electrical and electronic devices are legally obliged to return them after use.
  • The end user is responsible for deleting their per- sonal data from the old device being disposed of!
  • The symbol of the crossed-out dustbin means that waste electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with household waste.
  • Waste electrical and electronic equipment can be handed in free of charge at the following places: - Public disposal or collection points (e.g. municipal works yards). - Points of sale of electrical appliances (stationary and online), provided that dealers are obliged to take them back or o󰀨er to do so voluntarily. - Up to three waste electrical devices per type of device, with an edge length of no more than 25 centimetres, can be returned free of charge to the manufacturer without prior purchase of a new device from the manufacturer or taken to another authorised collection point in your vicinity. - Further supplementary take-back conditions of the manufacturers and distributors can be ob- tained from the respective customer service.
  • If the manufacturer delivers a new electrical device to a private household, the manufacturer can ar- range for the free collection of the old electrical de- vice upon request from the end user. Please contact the manufacturer’s customer service for this. Damaged electrical connection cable The insulation on electrical connection cables is of- ten damaged. This may have the following causes:
  • Pressure points, where connection cables are passed through windows or doors.
  • Kinks where the connection cable has been improp- erly fastened or routed.
  • Places where the connection cables have been cut due to being driven over.
  • Insulation damage due to being ripped out of the wall outlet.
  • Cracks due to the insulation ageing. Such damaged electrical connection cables must not be used and are life-threatening due to the insulation damage. Check the electrical connection cables for damage regularly. Ensure that the connection cables are dis- connected from electrical power when checking for damage. Electrical connection cables must comply with the ap- plicable VDE and DIN provisions. Only use connection cables with the designation H05VV-F. The printing of the type designation on the connection cable is mandatory. AC motor
  • The mains voltage must be 230 - 240 V~.
  • Extension cables up to 25 m long must have a cross-section of 1.5 mm². Connections and repair work on the electrical equip- ment may only be carried out by electricians. Please provide the following information in the event of any enquiries:
  • Type of current for the motor
  • Machine data - type plate
  • Motor data - type plate Connection type Y If the mains connection cable for the product is dam- aged then it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their customer services personnel or by a similarly qualied person, in order to avoid hazards.

Store the device and its accessories in a dark, dry and frost-free place that is inaccessible to children. The optimum storage temperature is between 5 and 30 ˚C. Keep the power tool in its original packaging.www.scheppach.com

The following table shows fault symptoms and describes remedial measures in the event of your product failing to work properly. If you cannot localise and rectify the problem with this, please contact your service workshop. Fault Possible cause Remedy Engine does not run. Engine, cable or connector defective, fuses burnt. Have the machine checked by a specialist. Never repair the engine yourself. Attention! Check the fuses and replace them if necessary. The engine starts slowly and does not reach the operating speed. Engine producing excessive noise. Coils damaged, motor defective. Have the engine checked by a specialist. Engine does not reach full power. Circuits in the network are overloaded (lamps, other motors, etc.). Do not use any other devices or engines on the same circuit. Motor overheats easily. Overloading of the engine, insu󰀩cient cooling of the engine. Avoid overloading the engine during grinding and remove dust from the engine to ensure optimum engine cooling.
