Frequently Asked Questions - PondoSwitch Pontec

How to install the PondoSwitch?
Install the device between the pump pressure connection and the first draw-off point, horizontally or vertically. Use the supplied adapter and screw it onto the pump. Pay attention to the flow direction indicated by the arrows. Then connect the pump cable to the PondoSwitch socket, then plug the PondoSwitch into the mains.
What to do if the pump does not start?
First check that the device and pump are connected to power. If the red ERROR light is on, it indicates dry running: remedy the lack of water and press the START PUMP button. Also check that the height difference between the device and the water point does not exceed 15 m.
How to adjust the switch-on pressure?
Disconnect the device from the mains, then unscrew the housing and remove the cover. Use a screwdriver to turn the adjustment screw in the desired direction (range 1.0 to 3.5 bar). Reattach the cover, reconnect power, and read the pressure on the manometer. Adjust if necessary.
What does the red light mean?
The red ERROR light comes on in case of dry running or lack of water. This prevents automatic re-switching. To reset, eliminate the cause of the lack of water and press the START PUMP button.
Is the device frost-resistant?
No, the PondoSwitch is not frost-resistant. In anticipation of frost, it must be disassembled, cleaned, and stored in a dry, frost-free place. Pipes and fittings should be drained as much as possible.
Can I use the device with drinking water?
No, the device is not suitable for drinking water. It is designed for garden pumps, deep well pumps or submersible pumps, and must not be connected to the drinking water supply.
How to clean the PondoSwitch?
Clean the device only externally with a damp cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions, as they could damage the housing.
What is the maximum pressure supported?
The maximum operating pressure is 10 bar. Never exceed this value, and also observe the pump's maximum permissible pressure, which may be lower.
Can I use it with any pump?
No, the device is not suitable for pumps with built-in automatic control. It is compatible with standard garden pumps, deep well pumps, and submersible pumps. Check that the pump does not have a built-in control system.
How to restart after dry running?
First, eliminate the cause of dry running (e.g., water level too low, defective pump). Then press the START PUMP button to reactivate the pump. The device will automatically restart the pump for about 15 seconds.

Installation and connection

NOTE

Excessive water pressure in the system will damage the unit.

▶ Ensure that the distance from the highest water withdrawal point does not exceed 49 ft.
▶ Ensure that the system pressure does not exceed 10 bar.
▶ Adhere to the maximum permissible pump pressure. It may be less than 10 bar.

NOTE

Ensure that all connection lines are completely leak-tight, as leaking lines can impair the function of the system and lead to damage.

▶ Use a suitable sealant to seal the threads of the lines and the connection to the pump.
▶ Overtightening of plastic screw connections can lead to damage. Do not apply excessive force.

□ B

The unit can be connected horizontally or vertically at any point between the pressure connection of a garden pump, deep well pump or submersible pressure pump and the first water withdrawal point (e.g. washing machine).

- Recommendation: Fit directly to the pressure connection of the pump. Use an adapter.

How to proceed:

□ C

  1. Screw the adapter onto the pump.
  2. Ensure that the O-ring is correctly positioned.

Operation

Starting up the unit

WARNING

Serious injury or death from electric shock is possible.

▶ Disconnect the pump and PondoSwitch from the power grid before working on the unit.

It is necessary to fill the pump and expel the air from the suction line prior to use. It can take several minutes to expel air from the suction line.

How to proceed:

- Completely fill the pump and suction line. ( Pump operating manual)

  1. Connect the power plug of the pump to the outlet of the PondoSwitch.

  2. Plug the power plug of the PondoSwitch into the outlet.

- The PondoSwitch activates the pump for approx. 15 seconds.

  1. Once the pump switches off automatically, open the highest water withdrawal point.

- The PondoSwitch switches the pump on again.

  1. Close the water withdrawal point once water emerges steadily.

- Start-up is complete.

If no water is pumped:

- Let the pump run for longer than the time determined by PondoSwitch. To do so, hold the START PUMP button until the pump priming process is complete and water is pumped.

- If no water is pumped even after approximately one minute: Disconnect PondoSwitch from the power grid and repeat the start-up process.

Interrupting operation and restarting

If the pump runs dry or there is insufficient water,

- the PondoSwitch will switch off the pump,

- the indicator lamp ERROR lights up red,

• automatic activation of the pump will be prevented.

To restart operation:
