Frequently Asked Questions - TB 55 Testboy

How to use the Testboy TB 55?

Remove the cap, turn on the device with the button (1). Select the DOT fluid type (DOT3/4/5.1) by pressing the button until the white LEDs indicate the desired DOT. Dip the test tips (max. 1.5 cm) into the fluid. Read the result on the green, yellow and red LEDs.

What do the color displays (green, yellow, red) mean?

Green: correct water content. Yellow: limit content, replace soon. Red: water content too high, replace brake fluid immediately.

How to replace the batteries of the TB 55?

Remove the cap (2). Use the supplied chip (4) or a tool to lift the battery compartment cover. Replace used batteries with two AAA Micro batteries (1.5 V) respecting polarity. Close the compartment.

What safety precautions must be observed?

Never point the LEDs at eyes (risk of injury). Do not use the device on electrical circuits. Follow the manufacturer's drain intervals. Open the brake fluid reservoir briefly to avoid moisture contamination.

How to maintain the tester after use?

After each use, immediately rinse the test tip with clean water and dry it. Put the cap back on. Ensure there is no brake fluid residue on the tips or device.

What types of brake fluid can the TB 55 test?

The device tests brake fluids DOT3, DOT4 and DOT5.1.

Does the TB 55 have auto power off?

Yes, the device automatically turns off after approx. 1 minute of inactivity to save batteries.

What to do if the device does not turn on?

Check the batteries: make sure they are inserted correctly (polarity) and not discharged. Replace them if necessary. If the problem persists, contact Testboy customer service.

Can I use the TB 55 to measure other fluids?

No, the device is designed exclusively for DOT3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids. Any other use is prohibited and may damage the device or cause accidents.

How to perform a self-test?

Briefly press the button (1). All LEDs light up and then turn off. Only one white and one green LED remain lit. This confirms proper functioning of the device.

Technische Daten

Never point the laser beam directly or indirectly (on reflective surfaces) towards the eyes. Laser radiation can cause irreparable damage to the eyes. You must first deactivate the laser beam when measuring close to people.

General safety notes

WARNING

Unauthorized changes or modifications of the instrument are forbidden – such changes put the approval (CE) and safety of the instrument at risk. In order to operate the instrument safely, you must always observe the safety instructions, warnings and the information in the “Proper and Intended Use” Chapter.

WARNING

Please observe the following information before using the instrument:

Do not operate the instrument in the proximity of electrical welders, induction heaters and other electromagnetic fields.
Do not expose the instrument to high temperatures for a long period of time.
Avoid dusty and humid surroundings.
Measurement instruments and their accessories are not toys. Children should never be allowed access to them!
In industrial institutions, you must follow the accident prevention regulations for electrical facilities and equipment, as established by your employer's liability insurance organization.

Proper and intended use

This instrument is intended for use in applications described in the operation manual only. Any other usage is considered improper and non-approved us-age and can result in accidents or the destruction of the instrument. Any misuse will result in the expiry of all guarantee and warranty claims on the part of the operator against the manufacturer.

Remove the batteries during longer periods of inactivity in order to avoid damaging the instrument.

We assume no liability for damages to property or personal injury caused by improper handling or failure to observe safety instructions. Any warranty claim expires in such cases. An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates safety notices in the operating instructions. Read the instructions completely before beginning the initial commissioning. This instrument is CE approved and thus fulfils the required guidelines.

Disposal

For Testboy customers: Purchasing our product gives you the opportunity to return the instrument to collection points for waste electrical equipment at the end of its lifespan.

The WEEE directive regulates the return and recycling of electrical appliances. Manufacturers of electrical appliances are obliged to take back and recycle all electrical appliances free of charge. Electrical devices may then no longer be disposed of through conventional waste disposal channels. Electrical appliances must be recycled and disposed of separately. All equipment subject to this directive is marked with this logo.

Disposing of used batteries

As an end user, you are legally obliged (by the relevant laws concerning battery disposal) to return all used batteries. Disposal with normal household waste is prohibited!

Contaminant-laden batteries are labelled with the adjacent symbol which indicates the prohibition of disposal with normal household waste.

The abbreviations used for heavy metals are:

Cd = Cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead.

You can return your used batteries for no charge to collection points in your community or everywhere where batteries are sold!

Operations

Thank you for choosing the Testboy ^® TB 55. The Testboy ^® TB 55 is the latest innovation in our popular Testboy ^® TB 50 line.

The test probe is a digital brake fluid tester used to determine the quality of brake fluid (DOT 3, 4 and 5.1). It is designed for use in professional workshops and service departments.

WARNING

The responsible body or operator should refer to the instruction manual before use. If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.

• The device and its accessories are not allowed to be changed or replaced, other than authorized by the manufacturer or his agent.
• Warning: Not to use the equipment of measurements on mains circuit.
• Test on a known source of brake fluid before and after use of the equipment to make sure that the equipment is functioning correctly.

WARNING

• The instructions of the car manufacturer to change the brake fluid must be strictly followed.
• This applies regardless of the measurement result obtained by this instrument.
• The measurement is considered as additional information and does not replace the manufacturer's instructions.
• To avoid contamination of the fluid due to humidity, the container should be opened only briefly and also frequent measurement has to be avoided.

Determining the quality of the fluid

Remove the cover on the brake fluid reservoir. Pull off the cap on the TB 55 and press the button to turn it on. Select the proper type of brake fluid by pressing the button several times. Press until the white LED is illuminated next to the required DOT type:

Upper white LED: DOT 4

Lower white LED: DOT 3

Upper and lower LED: DOT 5.1

Submerge the test probe completely but max 1,5 cm in the brake fluid. You can immediately read the result on the LED display.

Display

The display consists of three LEDs that indicate water in the fluid.

Red:

A red LED indicates that the brake fluid should be changed immediately.

Warning!

Unsafe!

Yellow:

The proportion of water is almost unsafe: the brake fluid should be changed soon.

Green:

The proportion of water in the brake fluid is correct.

WARNING

Rinse the test probe with tap water immediately after each use and dry thoroughly. Always remember to put the cap back on. Make sure that no brake fluid residue remains on the test probe or the tester.

Self-test

Press the button briefly to begin a self-test. All of the Testboy TB 55's LEDs will illuminate and then go out. Only a white and a green LED remain on.

Automatic power-off

The Testboy TB 55 features an automatic shut-off which activates after approximately 1 minute.

LED fluid illumination

The Testboy TB 55 has a special LED that can be used for illuminating the test probe and also for illuminating the fluid so that dirt particles are visible.

This high-power LED can stay illuminated for up to 80 hours! The LED has a life expectancy of over 100,000 hours.

Changing the batteries

Remove the tester cap (2). Use the enclosed chip (4) or a suitable tool to lift the battery compartment cover (3) slightly and at the same time slide it down and off. Remove the spent batteries and insert new ones. Close the compartment again.

When inserting the batteries, ensure that the polarity is correct!

Do not dispose of batteries in normal household rubbish! Use an authorized local collection point!
