TB 55 Operating Instructions
WARNING Never point the laser beam directly or indirectly (on reflective surfaces) towards the eyes. Laser radiation can cause irrepa- rable damage to the eyes. You must first deactivate the laser beam when measuring close to people.
General safety notes
WARNING Unauthorized changes or modifications of the instrument are forbidden – such changes put the approval (CE) and safety of the instrument at risk. In order to operate the instrument safe- ly, you must always observe the safety instructions, warnings and the information in the “Proper and Intended Use” Chapter.
WARNING Please observe the following information before using the in- strument: | Do not operate the instrument in the proximity of electrical welders, induction heaters and other electromagnetic fields. | Do not expose the instrument to high temperatures for a long period of time. | Avoid dusty and humid surroundings. | Measurement instruments and their accessories are not toys. Children should never be allowed access to them! | In industrial institutions, you must follow the accident pre- vention regulations for electrical facilities and equipment, as established by your employer's liability insurance organ- ization.Notes Testboy
TB 55 13 DEUTSCH DEUTSCH ENGLISH Proper and intended use This instrument is intended for use in applications described in the operation manual only. Any other usage is considered im- proper and non-approved us-age and can result in accidents or the destruction of the instrument. Any misuse will result in the expiry of all guarantee and warranty claims on the part of the operator against the manufacturer.
Remove the batteries during longer periods of inactivity in order to avoid damaging the instrument.
We assume no liability for damages to property or per- sonal injury caused by improper handling or failure to observe safety instructions. Any warranty claim expires in such cases. An exclamation mark in a triangle indi- cates safety notices in the operating instructions. Read the instructions completely before beginning the initial commissioning. This instrument is CE approved and thus fulfils the required guidelines.

The WEEE directive regulates the return and recy- cling of electrical appliances. Manufacturers of elec- trical appliances are obliged to take back and recy- cle all electrical appliances free of charge. Electrical devices may then no longer be disposed of through conventional waste disposal channels. Electrical ap- pliances must be recycled and disposed of separate- ly. All equipment subject to this directive is marked with this logo.
As an end user, you are legally obliged (by the rele- vant laws concerning battery disposal) to return all used batteries. Disposal with normal house- hold waste is prohibited! TB 55 is the latest innovation in our popular Testboy
TB 50 line. The test probe is a digital brake fluid tester used to determine the quality of brake fluid (DOT 3, 4 and 5.1). It is designed for use in professional workshops and service departments.
WARNING The responsible body or operator should refer to the instruction manual before use. If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may be im- paired. - The device and its accessories are not allowed to be changed or replaced, other than authorized by the manufacturer or his agent. - Warning: Not to use the equipment of measurements on mains circuit. - Test on a known source of brake fluid before and af- ter use of the equipment to make sure that the equip- ment is functioning correctly.
WARNING - The instructions of the car manufacturer to change the brake fluid must be strictly followed. - This applies regardless of the measurement result obtained by this instrument. - The measurement is considered as additional infor- mation and does not replace the manufacturer's in- structions. - To avoid contamination of the fluid due to humidity, the container should be opened only briefly and also frequent measurement has to be avoided.Operations Testboy
TB 55 17 DEUTSCH DEUTSCH ENGLISH Determining the quality of the fluid Remove the cover on the brake fluid reservoir. Pull off the cap on the TB 55 and press the button to turn it on. Select the proper type of brake fluid by pressing the button several times. Press until the white LED is illuminated next to the required DOT type: Upper white LED: DOT 4 Lower white LED: DOT 3 Upper and lower LED: DOT
Submerge the test probe com- pletely but max 1,5 cm in the brake fluid. You can immedi- ately read the result on the LED display.Operations 18 Testboy
TB 55 Display The display consists of three LEDs that indicate water in the fluid. Red: A red LED indicates that the brake fluid should be changed immediately. Warning! Unsafe! Yellow: The proportion of water is al- most unsafe: the brake fluid should be changed soon. Green: The proportion of water in the brake fluid is correct.
WARNING Rinse the test probe with tap water immediately af- ter each use and dry thoroughly. Always remem- ber to put the cap back on. Make sure that no brake fluid residue remains on the test probe or the tester.Operations Testboy
TB 55 19 DEUTSCH DEUTSCH ENGLISH Self-test Press the button briefly to begin a self-test. All of the Testboy TB 55's LEDs will il- luminate and then go out. Only a white and a green LED re- main on.
Automatic power-off The Testboy TB 55 features an automatic shut-off which acti- vates after approximately 1 minute. LED fluid illumination The Testboy TB 55 has a special LED that can be used for illu- minating the test probe and also for illuminating the fluid so that dirt particles are visible. This high-power LED can stay illuminated for up to 80 hours! The LED has a life expectancy of over 100,000 hours.Operations 20 Testboy
TB 55 Changing the batteries Remove the tester cap (2). Use the enclosed chip (4) or a suitable tool to lift the battery compartment cover (3) slightly and at the same time slide it down and off. Remove the spent bat- teries and insert new ones. Close the compartment again. When inserting the batteries, ensure that the polarity is correct!
Do not dispose of batteries in normal household rubbish! Use an authorized local col- lection point!
