Frequently Asked Questions - DistanceMaster Pocket Laserliner

How to turn on and measure a distance with the DistanceMaster Pocket?
Press the On/Measure button to turn on the laser. Aim at the target and press again to take a measurement. The result is displayed immediately. The device automatically turns off after 3 minutes of inactivity.
What is the accuracy of this distance meter?
Typical accuracy is ± 2 mm per 10 m under favorable conditions (light-colored surface, room temperature). In poor conditions (strong sunlight, dark surfaces), the deviation can reach ± 0.2 mm/m.
How to change the measurement unit (m, ft, inch)?
During operation, press the illumination/unit button to toggle between m, ft, inch, and ft/in. The selected unit is displayed on the screen.
How to measure an area or volume?
For an area: press the function button several times until the area symbol appears, then measure the length and width. For a volume: select the volume mode and measure the three dimensions.
What to do in case of error 'Err101' or 'Err104'?
Err101 indicates low batteries: replace them with two new AAA batteries. Err104 is a calculation error: turn the device off and on again. If the problem persists, consult the manual.
Can I use this device outdoors?
Yes, but its use is limited. Strong sunlight, rain, fog, or snow can reduce the range or distort measurements. For outdoor use, aim at a reflective surface.
How to clean the distance meter?
Clean it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not let water enter the housing. Do not use abrasive products or solvents.
What is the maximum measuring range?
The indoor range is 0.05 m to 40 m. Outdoors, the effective range depends on lighting conditions and target reflectivity.
How to use the continuous min/max measurement function?
Press and hold the measurement button for 3 seconds until the laser blinks. Move the device; the screen displays the minimum (min), maximum (max), and current values in real time. Press once to stop.
What does the malfunction symbol (h) on the screen mean?
This symbol indicates a malfunction or required maintenance. Check the batteries, temperature (do not exceed 40°C or -10°C), and cleanliness of the laser window. Consult the manual if the problem persists.

Important notices

  • The laser points to the location that will be measured. No objects may get into the laser's line of measurement.
  • The device compensates the measurement for different room temperatures. Therefore allow the device a brief adaptation period when changing locations with large temperature differences.
  • The device is only conditionally useable in outdoor areas and cannot be used in strong sunlight.
  • The measurement results of outdoor measurements may be influenced or falsified by rain, fog and snow.
  • In unfavourable conditions, e.g. with poorly reflecting surfaces, the maximum deviation may be greater than 3 mm.
  • Carpeting, upholstery or curtains will not reflect the laser optimally. Measure to flat surfaces.
  • Measurements made through glass (window panes) can falsify measurement results.
  • An energy-saving function switches the device off automatically.
  • Clean with a soft cloth. Water may not be allowed to penetrate the housing.
