Failure to follow all instructions may result in severe injury or death:
- CAT III - This measurement Category III multimeter is for use on permanently installed loads. Examples are measurements on distribution boards, circuit breakers, wiring, and equipment like fixed installation motors.
Do not use the meter for measurements higher than Category III 300 V 10 A.
- DO NOT use the meter if it is damaged. Before using the meter, inspect the case. Pay particular attention to the insulation surrounding the connectors.
- ALWAYS Inspect the test leads for damaged insulation or exposed metal. Check the test leads for continuity. Replace damaged test leads before you use the meter.
DO NOT use the meter if it operates abnormally. Protection may be impaired.
DO NOT operate the meter where explosive gas, vapor, or dust is present. - DO NOT apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the meter, between terminals or between any terminal and earth ground.
- ALWAYS verify the meter's operation by measuring a known voltage before use.
- ALWAYS turn off circuit power before connecting the meter in the circuit to measure current. Remember to place the meter in series with the circuit.
- ALWAYS turn off circuit power before connecting the meter to the circuit to measure resistance.
- ALWAYS Use caution when working with voltage above 30 V AC rms, 42 V peak, or 60 V DC. These voltages pose an increased shock hazard.

Measuring DC Voltage
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA
terminal.
- Set the range switch to desired range position. If the magnitude of the voltage to be measured is not known beforehand, set the range switch to the highest range first and then reduce it one range at a time until the appropriate resolution is obtained.
- Connect the test leads across the source or circuit to be tested.
- Read the reading on the display. The polarity of the test lead connection will be indicated.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock or damage to the meter, do not apply terminals to voltage higher than 300V
Measuring AC Voltage
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the terminal.
- Set the range switch to desired V range position. If the magnitude of the voltage to be measured is not known beforehand, set the range switch to the highest range first and then reduce it until satisfactory resolution is obtained.
- Connect the test leads across the source or circuit to be tested.
- Read the reading on the display. If the magnitude of the voltage to be measured is not known beforehand, set the range switch to the highest range first and then reduce it range by range until satisfactory resolution is obtained.
- Read the reading on the display.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock or damage to the meter, do not apply terminals to voltage higher than 300V
Measuring DC Current
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VOMA
terminal if the current to be measured is less than 200mA . If the current is between 200mA and 10A , connect the red test lead to the 10 A terminal instead.
- Set the range switch to desired A range position. Note: If the magnitude of the current to be measured is not known beforehand, set the range switch to the highest range first and then reduce it one range at a time until the appropriate resolution is obtained.
- Turn off power to the circuit to be tested. Then discharge all capacitors.
- Break the circuit path to be tested, and connect the test leads in series with the circuit.
- Turn on power to the circuit.
- Read the reading on the display. The polarity of the red test lead connection will be indicated.
WARNING: To avoid risk of personal injury and/or possible damage to the meter, when using the 10 A terminal, you should only acquire readings for 10 seconds maximum with a minimum resting time of 15 minutes between readings.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock or damage to the meter, do not apply terminals to amperage higher than 200mA when connected to the terminal. Do not apply terminals to amperage higher than 10 A when connected to the 10 A terminal.
Measuring Resistance
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the terminal.
- Set the range switch to desiredΩrange position.
-
Connect the test leads across the object to be measured.
-
Read the reading on the display.
Note:
- For measurements >1000k the meter may take a few seconds to stabilize the reading. This is normal for high resistance measurements.
- When the input is not connected, i.e. at open circuit, "1" will be displayed as an overrange indication.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock or damage to the meter, before measuring in-circuit resistance, disconnect all power to the circuit to be tested and discharge all capacitors thoroughly.
Continuity Test
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VDMA terminal.
- Set the range switch to the position.
- Connect the test leads across the object to be tested.
- If the resistance is lower than approximately 30 , the built-in buzzer will sound.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock or damage to the meter, before performing continuity test, disconnect all power to the circuit to be tested and discharge all capacitors thoroughly.
Diode Test
- Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VQmA terminal. Note the polarity of the red test lead is positive (+).
- Set the range switch to the position.
- Connect the red test lead to the anode of the diode to be tested and the black test lead to the cathode of the diode.
GB STANLEY.
User Manual
- The display will show the approximate forward voltage drop of the diode. If the connection is reversed "1" will be displayed.
Measuring Temperature
- Set the range switch to the ^ C position.
- Connect the negative (-) plug of the K type thermocouple to the COM terminal and the positive (+) plug of this K type thermocouple to the VQmA terminal.
- Carefully place the sensing end of the thermocouple on the object to be measured.
- Wait until the reading stabilizes, and then read the reading on the display.
NOTICE: To avoid possible damage to the meter or other equipment, remember that while the meter is rated for 0^ to +1000^ , the K Type Thermocouple provided with the meter is rated up to 250^ . For temperatures out of that range, you must obtain and use a higher rated thermocouple.
