WARNING

Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool.

Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such precautionary measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

5) Battery tool use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

e) Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.

f) Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130^ may cause explosion.

g) Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

6) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
b) Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Safety instructions for all applications Special safety instructions for grinding and cut-off grinding

a) This power tool is to be used as a grinder and cutoff grinder. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and data that are received with the device. Failure to observe all the following instructions may result in electric shock, fire and / or serious injury
b) Operations such as sandpaper grinding, wire brushing or polishing are not recommended to be performed with this power tool. Operations for which the power tool was not designed may create a hazard and cause personal injury.
c) Do not use the power tool for any function for which it is not expressly designed and intended by its manufacturer. Such a modification may result in loss of control and serious personal injury.
d) Do not use a tool attachment that has not been specifically envisaged and determined by the manufacturer for this electric tool. Just because you can attach the accessories to your power tool does not guarantee they are safe to use.
e) The maximum speed of the tool attachment used must be at least as high as the maximum speed specified for the power tool. Tool attachment that rotate faster than permitted can break and fly off at high speed.
f) The external diameter and thickness of the accessory tool used must comply with the dimensions of the power tool. Incorrectly dimensioned accessory tools cannot be sufficiently shielded or controlled.
g) The dimensions for fastening the tool attachment must match the dimensions of the fasteners of the power tool. Tool attachments which are not precisely attached to the electric tool rotate unevenly, vibrate very strongly and can cause a loss of control.
h) Never use damaged accessory tools. Before each use, check tools such as grinding discs for chipping and cracks, grinding wheels for cracks, wear

or heavy wear. If the power tool or the accessory tool in use is dropped, check to see if it is damaged or use an undamaged accessory tool. Once you have checked and used the tool attachment, ensure that you and all other persons in the vicinity remain outside the plane of the rotating tool attachment and allow the device to run for 1 min. at the maximum speed. Damaged accessories usually break during the test period.

i) Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. Where appropriate, wear a dust mask, hearing protection, protective gloves or a special apron that will keep small grinding and material particles away from you. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. Dust or breathing masks must filter the dust generated during the respective use. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
j) Ensure that other people remain at a safe distance from your workspace. Anyone who enters the workspace must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of the workpiece or broken accessory tools can fly off and cause injury - even outside the immediate working area.
k) Hold the power tool by the insulated handles when you are carrying out work in which the accessory tool may come into contact with concealed power cables. Contact with a live wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool live and could give the operator an electric shock.
1) Keep the power cord away from any rotating accessories. If you lose control of the device, the mains cable can be severed or caught and your hand or arm pulled into the rotating insert tool.
m) Never put the power tool down until the accessory tool being used has come to a complete standstill. The rotating accessory tool can come into contact with the surface and cause you to lose control of the power tool.
n) Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact of your clothing with the rotating attachment part could lead to an injury.
o) Clean the ventilation slits of your power tool regularly. The engine fan draws dust into the housing and a strong accumulation of metal dust can cause electrical hazards.
p) Never use the power tool in the vicinity of inflammable materials. Sparks can ignite such materials.
q) Do not use any accessory tools which require liquid coolant. The use of water or other liquid coolants may lead to an electric shock.

Kick-back and corresponding safety instructions

Kick-back is the sudden reaction resulting from a caught or jammed rotating insert tool, such as a grinding disc, grinding wheel, etc. Catching or jamming results in the rotating insert tool stopping abruptly. As a result, an uncontrolled electric tool is accelerated against the direction of rotation of the tool attachment at the blocking point.

For example, if a grinding disc catches or jams in the workpiece, the edge of the grinding disc that plunges into the workpiece can get caught, causing the grinding disc to break away or kick back. The grinding disc may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel's movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions.

Kick-back is the result of incorrect use of the electric tool and/or deficient working conditions. It can be prevented by suitable precautionary measures, as described in the following.

a) Hold the power tool firmly in both hands and position your body and arms so they can absorb the force of a kickback. Always use the additional handle, if available, so that you have the maximum possible control over the kickback force or reaction forces at full speed. By taking adequate precautions, the operator can stay in control of the kickback and reaction forces.
b) Never hold your hand close to a rotating accessory tool. The accessory tool could jump out of your hand if there is a kickback.
c) Avoid having any part of your body in the region in which the power tool is likely to move in event of a kickback. The kickback will force the power tool in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the grinding disc at the blockage.
d) Be particularly careful when working in the area of the corners, sharp edges etc. Prevent insert tools from bouncing against the workpiece and getting caught. The rotating tool attachment tends to jam at corners, sharp edges or when it gets caught. This causes a loss of control or kick-back.
e) Do not use the chainsaw blade to cut wood, a segmented diamond cutting wheel with a segment gap over 10mm or a toothed saw blade. Such tool attachments frequently cause kick-back and loss of control.

Special safety instructions for grinding and cut-off grinding

a) Only use the grinding bodies approved for your electric tool and the protective cover provided for these grinding bodies. Grinding bodies that are not intended for the electric tool cannot be adequately shielded and are unsafe.
b) Cranked grinding discs must be mounted so that their grinding surface does not protrude above the plane of the protective cover edge. An improperly mounted grinding disc that protrudes above the level of the protective cover edge cannot be adequately shielded.
c) The protective cover must be securely attached to the electric tool and, for maximum safety, adjusted so that the smallest possible part of the grinding body is open and facing the operator. The protective cover helps to protect the operator from fragments, accidental contact with the grinding body and sparks that could ignite clothing.
d) Grinding bodies may only be used for the recommended applications. For example: Never grind on the side surfaces of a cutting wheel. Cutting wheels are designed to remove material with the edge of the disc. Lateral forces on this grinding body can break it.

e) Always use undamaged clamping flanges of the correct size and shape for the grinding disc selected by you. Suitable flanges support the grinding disc and reduce the danger of the grinding disc breaking. Flanges for cutting wheels may differ from flanges for other grinding discs.
f) Do not use worn grinding discs from large power tools. Grinding discs for larger power tools are not designed for the higher speeds of smaller power tools and can break.
g) When using wheels for a dual purpose, always use the appropriate protective cover for the application being performed. Failure to use the correct protective cover may result in the desired shielding not being provided and may result in serious injury.

Further special safety instructions for cut-off grinding

a) Avoid blocking the cutting wheel or applying too much pressure. Do not make excessively deep cuts. Overloading the cutting wheel increases its stress and susceptibility to tilting or blocking and therefore the possibility of kick-back or breaking of the grinding wheel.
b) Avoid the area in front of and behind the rotating cutting wheel. If you move the cutting wheel in the workpiece away from you, in the event of a kick-back the power tool with the spinning wheel can be thrown directly towards you.
c) If the cutting wheel jams or you interrupt your work, switch the power tool off and hold it still in the material until the wheel has come to a stand-still. Never try to pull the cutting wheel out of the cut while it is still running, otherwise kick-back may occur. Determine and remedy the cause of the jamming.
d) Do not switch the electric tool on again while it is in the workpiece. Allow the cutting wheel to reach its full speed first before carefully continuing the cut. Otherwise the disc can get stuck, jump out of the workpiece or cause kick-back.
e) Support plates or large workpieces to reduce the risk of kick-back caused by a jammed cutting wheel. Large workpieces tend to sag under their own weight. The workpiece must be supported on both sides of the disc, that is both close to the cutting wheel and at the edge.
f) Apply particular caution with "plunge cuts" in existing walls or other areas that are not visible. The plunging cutting wheel can cause kick-back when cutting into gas or water pipes, electrical lines or other objects.
g) Do not perform curved cuts. Overloading the cutting wheel increases its stress and susceptibility to tilting or blocking and therefore the possibility of kick-back or breaking of the grinding wheel, which can lead to serious injuries.

  1. To switch it off, simply release the on/off switch (1).

9.1.1 Continuous operation

Switching on continuous operation

  1. Push the ON/OFF switch (1) forwards to switch the product on.
  2. Then also press the on/off switch (1) down at the front until it engages.

Switching off continuous operation

  1. Press the on/off switch (1) down at the back and then release it.

9.2 Adjusting the speed

Note:

The speed can also be changed during operation.

The speed can be preselected with the setting wheel for speed preselection (2):

1 = lowestest speed, e.g. for surface machining: Grind- ing, polishing
6 = highest speed, e.g. for cut-off grinding

We recommend determining the speed using practical tests.

The speed that makes sense when working depends on what tasks you are doing with the product.

When cut-off grinding, the use of a high speed is usually not a problem. When sanding or polishing the surfaces, a low speed is better.

10 Working instructions

Note:

Grinding bodies may only be used for the recommended applications. Otherwise, it could break, be damaged or cause injuries.

ALWAYS replace the grinding wheel if the product has been dropped during work.

A grinding or cutting wheel must NEVER be knocked or banged against the workpiece.

Especially when working on corners, sharp edges, etc., make sure that the grinding wheel does not jump or get stuck. This could cause loss of control and setbacks.

NEVER use the tool with wood cutting or other saw blades. Such saw blades, when used on a grinder, cause frequent kickback and loss of control, which can lead to injury.

Rough grinding

SCHEPPACH CAG125X - Note: - 1

WARNING

Never use cutting wheels for roughing!

  • Move the angle grinder back and forth across the workpiece with moderate pressure.
  • With soft materials, guide the roughing disc at a flat angle across the workpiece, with hard materials use a somewhat steep angle.

Cut-off grinding

SCHEPPACH CAG125X - WARNING - 1

WARNING

Never use roughing wheels for cutting!

Only use approved fibre-reinforced cutting or grinding discs that are approved for a circumferential speed of no less than 80~m / s

SCHEPPACH CAG125X - WARNING - 1

CAUTION

The grinding tool continues to run after it has been switched off. Do not try to slow it down by pushing against it laterally.

  • Secure the workpiece. Use clamping devices/bench vice to hold the workpiece in place. In this manner, it is held more securely than with your hand.
  • Always switch the product off before placing it down and wait until the product has come to a standstill.
  • Only use the product for dry cutting or dry grinding.
  • The additional handle must be mounted to the product for all work.
  • Do not machine material containing asbestos. Asbestos is considered carcinogenic.

This is the right way to behave:

SCHEPPACH CAG125X - CAUTION - 1

DANGER

Always guide the product through the workpiece in the counter direction!

In the opposing direction, there is a risk of kick-back. The product can be pushed out of the cut.

Always guide the product against the workpiece when switched on. After machining, lift the product from the workpiece and only then switch it off.
Always hold the product tight with both hands during work. Make sure that you have a secure footing.
- For the best grinding effect, move the product evenly back and forth on the workpiece at an angle of 15^ to 30^ (between the grinding disc and the workpiece).
- When machining inclined surfaces, the product must not be pushed onto the workpiece with great force. If the speed drops significantly, the contact pressure must be reduced to make safe, effective working possible. If the product is suddenly completely braked or blocked, the product must be switched off immediately.

  • Cutting: Work with moderate feed and do not tilt the cutting wheel.
  • Roughing and cutting wheels become very hot during work - allow them to fully cool before touching them.
  • Never misuse the product.
Always make sure that the product is switched off before inserting the battery into the product.
  • If the event of danger, switch off the product immediately and remove the battery. Ensure that the product is easy to access and can be reached without any problems in an emergency.
  • During a pause in work, before performing any work on the product and when not in use, remove the battery. The product must always be clean, dry and free of oil or lubricating grease.

16 Warranty conditions - Scheppach 20V IXES series

Revision date 25/04/2024

Dear customer,

our products are subject to strict quality checks. However, if a product does not function perfectly, we deeply regret this and ask that you contact our customer service at the address specified below. We will also be glad to assist you by telephone via the service number. The following information is intended to help you to process and settle your claim without any problems.

For the assertion of warranty claims, the following applies:

  1. The warranty conditions govern our additional manufacturer warranty services for purchasers (private end consumers) of new products. The statutory warranty claims are not affected by this warranty. This is the responsibility of the dealer who you purchased the product from.

  2. The manufacturer's warranty only covers defects in a new product purchased by you that are due to a material or manufacturing defect. If material or manufacturing defects occur during the warranty period, the manufacturer as guarantor shall provide one of the following services of its choice under this warranty:

  3. Free repair of the goods

Free replacement of the goods with an item of equal value (if necessary also replacement with a successor model if the original goods are no longer available).

Replaced products or parts shall become our property. Please note that our products were not designed for commercial, trade or professional use. A warranty claim is therefore not valid if the product has been used in commercial, trade or industrial operations within the warranty period or has been subjected to equivalent stress.

3. The following are excluded from our warranty services:

  • Damage to the product which was caused by non-observation of the assembly instructions, improper installation, non-observation of the operating instructions (e.g. connection to an incorrect mains voltage or type of current) or the maintenance and safety regulations or use of the product in unsuitable environmental conditions as well as by insufficient care and maintenance.

  • Damage to the product caused by misuse or improper application (such as overloading the product or using non-approved tools and accessories), penetration of foreign bodies into the product (such as sand, stones or dust), transport damage, use of force or external influences (such as damage caused if dropped).

  • Damage to the product or parts of the product which is due to intentional, normal (operational) or other natural wear as well as damage and/or wearing of wear parts.
Defects in the product which have been caused by the use of accessories, expansions or spare parts that are not original parts or are not used as intended.

  • Products on which changes or modifications have been made.
  • Minor deviations from the target characteristics which are irrelevant for the value and usability of the product.
  • Products on which unauthorised repairs have been carried out, in particular by an unauthorised third party.
  • If the marking on the product or the identification information of the product (machine label) is missing or illegible.
  • Products that are very dirty and are therefore refused by the service personnel.
  • Claims for damages and consequential damages are generally excluded from this warranty.

  • The warranty period is usually 5 years (12 months for batteries/rechargeable batteries) and starts from the date of purchase of the product. The date on the original purchase receipt is decisive. Warranty claims must be made immediately after becoming aware of them. The assertion of warranty claims after expiry of the warranty period is excluded. The repair or replacement of the product does not result in an extension of the warranty period, nor does this service initiate a new warranty period for the product or for any installed spare parts. This also applies when using an on-site service. A prerequisite for a claim under the warranty is that the manufacturer, as the guarantor, is enabled to examine the warranty claim by sending in the goods at the manufacturer's request. Care must be taken to avoid damage during transport by using appropriate packaging. The product concerned is to be cleaned and returned to the service centre together with a copy of the purchase receipt, which must include the date of purchase and the product designation. If a product is sent in incomplete without the complete scope of delivery, the missing accessories will be charged / deducted in value if the product is exchanged or in the event of a refund. Partially or completely dismantled products cannot be accepted as a warranty claim. In the event of an unjustified complaint or if outside the warranty period, the purchaser shall generally bear the transport costs and the transport risk. Please report a warranty claim in advance to the service centre (see below). It is generally agreed upon that the defective product will be returned to the service address given below with a brief description of the fault by organised return or, in the case of repair outside the warranty period, with sufficient postage,

taking the appropriate packaging and shipping guidelines into account. Please note that your product (depending on the model) will be free of all operating materials when returned for safety reasons. The product sent to our service centre must be packaged in such a way that damage to the product under complaint is avoided during transport. After successful repair / replacement, we will send the product back to you free of charge. If products cannot be repaired or replaced, a sum up to the purchase price of the defective product may be refunded at our own discretion, taking into account any deduction for wear and tear. These warranties are only for the benefit of the original private purchaser and cannot be assigned or transferred.

  1. Extension of the warranty period to 10 years: Scheppach offers an additional warranty extension of 5 years on products of the Scheppach 20V series. Thus, the warranty period for these products totals 10 years. Batteries / rechargeable batteries, battery chargers and accessories are excluded from this. You can claim this warranty extension by registering your Scheppach product from this range at https://garantie.scheppach.com no later than 30 days from the date of purchase. After registering online successfully, you will receive confirmation for the item-related warranty extension.

  2. In order to submit your warranty claim, please contact our service centre.

Preferably, please use our form on our homepage: https://shop.scheppach.com/contact

Please do not send us any products without first contacting and registering with our service centre.

Contacting our service centre first is mandatory to claim these warranty promises. Warranty claims must be made before expiry of the warranty period within 14 days of discovery of the defect. For this purpose, the original purchase receipt and, if necessary, confirmation of the item-related warranty extension are required.

  1. Processing time - We normally process complaint consignments within 14 days of receipt at our service centre. If, in exceptional cases, the processing time mentioned is exceeded, you will be informed in good time.

  2. Wear parts are generally excluded from the warranty! - Wear parts are: a) supplied, attached and/or installed batteries / rechargeable batteries as well as b) all model-dependent wear parts (i.e. belts, saw blades, tool attachments, grinding discs, filters, carbon brushes etc., see operating manual). The warranty does not cover batteries or rechargeable batteries that are deeply discharged or those with damaged housing or battery terminals.

  3. Cost estimate - Products that are not covered or no longer covered by the warranty will be repaired at extra cost. Upon request to our service centre, you can send in the defective products for a cost estimate and, if necessary, give the service centre approval for the repair in writing (by post, e-mail). No further processing will take place without approval for the repair.

The warranty conditions only apply in the current version at the time of the complaint and, if necessary, can be found on our homepage (www.scheppach.com).

In case of translations, the German version is decisive.
