Frequently Asked Questions - DistanceMaster Plus Laserliner

How to measure an area with the DistanceMaster Plus?

To measure an area, activate the area measurement function (press 2 times). Take the first measurement of the length, then the second of the width. The device automatically calculates and displays the area in m².

How to use the Pythagoras function?

The Pythagoras function allows measuring an inaccessible distance by triangulation. Select the Pythagoras function (angle function button 1, 2 or 3). Follow the instructions: measure the two known distances, the device calculates the unknown distance.

What does error code Er101 mean?

The Er101 code indicates that the batteries (or rechargeable battery) are almost empty. Replace or recharge the battery quickly. If the error persists, contact after-sales service.

How to connect the distance meter to a smartphone?

Activate the digital connection (button v). On your smartphone, turn on Bluetooth and open the Laserliner app (downloadable from the stores). The device appears in the list, select it to connect.

How to change the measurement unit (meters/inches/feet)?

Press the +/- button (or the unit button) for 2 seconds to switch between m (meters), inch (inches) and ft (feet). The display shows the active unit.

How to clean the device?

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to clean the device. Do not use cleaning products, solvents, or abrasive products. Make sure water does not enter the housing.

What is the actual accuracy of the DistanceMaster Plus?

The typical accuracy is ±1.5 mm up to 10 m on a well-reflective target surface at room temperature. Beyond that or in poor conditions (strong sunlight, poorly reflective surface), the deviation can reach ±0.2 mm/m.

Can you measure through glass?

No, measurements through glass (windows) can be distorted. The laser does not pass through glass correctly and may give incorrect results. Always measure on opaque surfaces.

How to store the device when not in use?

Remove the battery if storage exceeds several weeks. Store the device in a dry and clean place, away from extreme temperatures (between -20°C and 70°C) and humidity (RH max 80%).

What to do if the device no longer turns on?

First check the battery charge (plug in the supplied charger). If the device does not respond, try to reset by holding the On/Off button for 10 seconds. If the problem persists, contact UMAREX-LASERLINER after-sales service.

Follow the instructions they contain. These documents must be kept in a safe place and passed on together with the product.

Intended use

This laser rangefinder is suitable for measuring, adding and subtracting lengths, areas and volumes. The Pythagoras angle function is suitable for indirect measurements in hard-to-reach locations. The measured data can be transferred to a smart phone via the digital connection interface.

General safety instructions

- The device must only be used in accordance with its intended purpose and within the scope of the specifications.

- Keep the measuring device away from children. Keep out of reach of children.

- Modifications or changes to the device are not permitted, this will otherwise invalidate the approval and safety specifications.

- Do not expose the device to mechanical stress, extreme temperatures, moisture or significant vibration.

- The device must no longer be used if one or more of its functions fail, the battery charge is weak, or the housing has been damaged.

- When using the device outdoors, make sure that the weather conditions are appropriate and/or that suitable protection measures are taken.

- Please ensure compliance with the safety regulations set out by local and national authorities with regard to the correct and proper use of the device.

Using class 2 lasers

- Attention: Do not look into the direct or reflected beam.

- Do not point the laser beam towards persons.

- If a person's eyes are exposed to class 2 laser radiation, they should shut their eyes and immediately move away from the beam.

- Tampering with (making changes to) the laser device is not permitted.

- Under no circumstances should optical instruments (magnifying glass, microscope, binoculars,...)

• The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limit values in accordance with EMC-Directive 2014/30/EU.
• Local operating restrictions – for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers – may apply. Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazards or interference.
• The measuring accuracy may be affected when working close to high voltages or high electromagnetic alternating fields.

Use of lithium-ion battery

• Use the power supply/charger unit only in closed rooms; do not expose to moisture or rain otherwise risk of electric shock.
• Ensure the device's battery is fully charged before using the device.
• Connect the power pack/charger to the mains power supply and the socket on the device's battery pack. Please only use the power pack/charger supplied. Using any other power pack/charger will invalidate the warranty.

- After the charging cable has been plugged in, a battery symbol with increasing bars appears in the display for the entire duration of the charging process. As soon as the charging process is complete, a battery symbol with a full number of bars appears.

The LC display shows the max value, the min value and the current value.

Wall area measurement:

1st area = height x length 1

2nd area = (height x length 2) + 1st area etc.

This function is suitable for the automatic addition of wall areas of the same height. After the laser is switched on, the room height must be determined with the 1st measurement; this will then act as the height measurement for all of the remaining area calculations. From the second measurement on, only the length measurement needs to be taken. Every area calculation result will be added to the previous ones.

Digital bubble level:

The digital bubble level is used to horizontally align the measuring device.

Memory function:

The device has 50 storage locations.

Enable Digital Connection:

When enabled the Digital Connection symbol appears on the display (h). When the function is active, a mobile device can connect by means of an app to the measuring device.

Data transfer

This device has digital connectivity which allows wireless data transfer to mobile devices such as smart phones or tablets with a wireless interface.

This device can generate a wireless connection to devices which are compatible with the wireless standard IEEE 802.15.4. The wireless standard IEEE 802.15.4 is a transfer protocol for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN).

The range is set to a maximum distance of 10 m from the terminal device and greatly depends on the ambient conditions such as the thickness and composition of walls, sources of interference as well as the transmit / receive properties of the terminal device.

Application (app)

An app is required to use the digital connection. You can download the app from the corresponding stores for the specific type of terminal device:

Make sure that the wireless interface of the mobile device is activated.

After starting the app and activating the digital connection, a connection can be set up between a mobile device and the measuring device. If the app detects several active measuring devices, select the matching device.

This measuring device can be connected automatically the next time it is switched on.

Important notices

• The laser points to the location that will be measured. No objects may get into the laser's line of measurement.
• The device compensates the measurement for different room temperatures. Therefore allow the device a brief adaptation period when changing locations with large temperature differences.
• The device is only conditionally useable in outdoor areas and cannot be used in strong sunlight.
• The measurement results of outdoor measurements may be influenced or falsified by rain, fog and snow.
• In unfavourable conditions, e.g. with poorly reflecting surfaces, the maximum deviation may be greater than 3 mm.
• Carpeting, upholstery or curtains will not reflect the laser optimally. Measure to flat surfaces.
• Measurements made through glass (window panes) can falsify measurement results.
• An energy-saving function switches the device off automatically.
• Clean with a soft cloth. Water may not be allowed to penetrate the housing.

Information on maintenance and care

Clean all components with a damp cloth and do not use cleaning agents, scouring agents and solvents. Remove the battery(ies) before storing for longer periods. Store the device in a clean and dry place.

Calibration

The measuring device should be calibrated and tested on a regular basis to ensure it is accurate and working properly. We recommend the measuring device is calibrated every year. If necessary, contact your distributor or the UMAREX-LASERLINER service department.
