Risk of burns – When the kettle is heating water, the outer surface of the water jug may get very hot. Always hold the kettle by the handle. – Never open the lid of the water jug while the kettle is in the pro- cess of heating water, as hot water may splash out. Hot and boiling water and the resulting steam can cause severe burns. – Never ll the water jug to above the maximum ll level, as this may cause boiling water to spill out. – Always allow the kettle to cool down before cleaning.11 Your kettle has a limescale lter to prevent limescale deposits from inside the water jug being poured out with the water. The ket- tle also features boil-dry protection to prevent it from overheating if the water in the water jug is below the minimum ll level.
- Remove the appliance carefully from the packag- ing. Remove all packaging components and keep them in a safe place along with the packaging itself.
- Place the base (2) on a at, nonslip dry surface close to a mains socket.
- Unwind the power cord (1) to the required length.

- Open the lid of the water jug (3) by sliding your index nger under the lid release (7), then sliding the lid release back and pulling it up.
- Fill the water jug with the desired quantity of clear water. Note the minimum and maximum water levels (marked with "min." and "max." on the water level indicator (5)).

Keep these operating instructions in a safe place and enclose them with the kettle when it is handed on. Alternatively, the current operating instructions are available at www.ritterwerk.de. INTENDED USE This kettle is intended to be used exclusively to heat water (not milk, instant drinks, etc.) on a domestic scale. The kettle is suitable for contact with foodstus. If the kettle is used for a purpose other than its intended use or if it is incor- rectly operated, severe injuries may occur or the kettle may be damaged. All warranty and liability claims will be rendered null and void in this case. FUNCTIONS The kettle allows you to heat water to four pre- dened target temperatures (70°C, 80°C, 95°C and 100°C).12 English CAUTION, risk of burns: – Never open the lid of the water jug while the kettle is in the process of heating water, as hot water may splash out. – When the kettle is heating water, the outer surface of the water jug may get very hot. Always hold the kettle by the handle. Once the target tempera- ture is reached, the LED stops ashing and the kettle switches o automatically. Info: To ensure that heat is distributed evenly through the water in the water jug, the kettle automatically switches o and back on again several times between 70°C and 95°C. A slight clicking sound can be heard as this happens. Switching the appliance
- Press any temperature button. The LED stops ashing and the kettle stops heating the water. Automatically: The kettle switches o auto- matically in the following situations: – if the water jug is removed from the base – when the target tempera- ture is reached – if there is not enough water in the water jug (boil-dry protection) Adjusting the temperature You can adjust the target temperature while the kettle is in the process of heating water.
- To adjust the tempera- ture, rst turn o the kettle and then press the relevant temperature button. Info: If you select a lower tem- perature, the water may need to cool down. In this case, the process may take longer. Boil-dry protection If the water jug is empty or not lled up to the minimum ll level when the kettle is switched on, all four LEDs will ash and the kettle will immediately switch o auto- matically. Follow the steps below to ensure that the kettle is ready for use again:
- Allow the kettle to cool down for a few minutes.
- Fill the water jug (3) with clear water. Note the minimum and maximum water levels (marked with "min." and "max." on the water level indicator (5)).
- Place the water jug on the base and press the required temperature button (4.1 - 4.4). The LED on the active temperature button starts to ash and the kettle heats the water. CLEANING Clean your kettle regularly to avoid limescale build-up. CAUTION, risk of burns: Always allow the kettle to cool down before cleaning.
- Unplug the power cord (1) from the socket by pulling on the plug.
- Wipe down the base (2) and water jug (3) with a damp cloth. CAUTION, risk of damage to the kettle: – Do not use any scour- ing agents, abrasive cleansers, sponges with rough surfaces or hard brushes. – The kettle is not suit- able for washing in a dishwasher.
- Wipe the seal (9) on the lid with a damp cloth to remove limescale deposits. Cleaning the limescale lter If the limescale lter starts to clog up, causing the water to ow out on either side of the lter during pour- ing, the lter needs to be cleaned. Info: The hardness of the water in your local area will determine how often the limescale lter needs to be cleaned.13 English
- Remove any dirt with a soft nylon brush.
- Rinse the limescale lter with clear water and place it back in the kettle. De-scaling the water jug De-scale the water jug if limescale build-up is visible. Info: The hardness of the water in your local area will deter- mine how often the water jug needs to be de-scaled.
- Fill the water jug with around 0.7 l of water and then top up to the 1.0 mark on the water level indica- tor with clear, regular table vinegar. Alternatively, ll the water jug with around 0.9 l of water and then top up to the 1.0 mark on the water level indicator with clear vinegar essence.
- Close the lid. CAUTION: The vapour produced when heating the vinegar may irritate the mucous membranes.
- Place the water jug on the base and press the "100°C" temperature button.
- Wait until the kettle switches o automatically.
- Use the handle to lift the water jug o the base and then pour out the water/ vinegar mixture.
- Repeat this process 3 times with only fresh water. Info: You may also use commer- cial de-scaling solutions to de-scale the water jug. In this case, follow the manu- facturer's instructions on the packaging.
The current consumed to heat a litre of water (initial temperature 20°C) to boiling point is around 0.107 kWh. Energy consumption can be optimised by only heating the amount of water actually required and only heating to the actual temperature required. Limescale build-up may aect the performance of your appliance. To prevent excessive limescale, the remaining water must be poured away after heating. STORAGE Keep the kettle out of the reach of children. Always store the cable in the cord storage com- partment provided on the underside of the base.
