Never touch power supply or telephone lines. These lines conduct high voltage and there is severe danger of electric shock. Keep a minimum distance of 10 m. Beware of thrown or flying objects to bystanders. Keep bystanders a safe distance away from the machine.
General Power Tool Safety rules
WARNING
Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings
and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
Before use check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or ageing. If the cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the supply immediately. DO NOT TOUCH THE CORD BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE SUPPLY. Do not use the garden product if the cord is damaged or worn.
▶ If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
When in use perform a daily, visual inspection in order to identify any significant damage or defects this inspection must also be competed if the tool is dropped or subjected to any significant impacts.
It is recommended for increased electrical safety to use a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA. Always check your RCD every time you use it.
▶ Always ensure tool ventilation openings are kept free of debris.
▶ Observe also the safety notes and instructions in the user manual of the power unit.
▶ Check before operation, that the Multi-tool attachment is connected correctly with the power unit and the locking screw is securely fastened and clamp is done up. If the connection is unsafe, the Multi-tool attachment can detach, fall down and lead to personal injury.
Pole pruner safety warnings
▶ Prolonged use of a power tool (or other machines) exposing the operator to vibrations may produce white finger disease (Raynaud's phenomenon) or carpal tunnel syndrome.
These conditions reduce the hand's ability to feel and regulate temperature, produce numbness and burning sensations and may cause nerve and circulation damage and tissue necrosis.
All factors which contribute to white finger disease are not known, but cold weather, smoking and diseases or physical conditions that affect blood vessels and blood transport, as well as high vibration levels and long periods of ex-

General hazard safety alert.

Read instruction manual.

Do not use the machine in the rain or leave it outdoors when it is raining.

Switch off and remove plug from mains before adjusting, cleaning or if the cable is entangled and before leaving the garden product unattended for any period.

Pay attention that bystanders are not injured through foreign objects thrown from the machine.

Keep bystanders a safe distance away from the machine.

Always wear gloves and safety goggles. Further protective equipment such as non-skid safety shoes and a hard hat is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury by falling branches and accidental contact with the saw chain.

posure to vibration are mentioned as factors in the development of white finger disease. In order to reduce the risk of white finger disease and carpal tunnel syndrome, please note the following:
- Wear gloves and keep hands warm
- Maintain a firm grip at all times, but do not squeeze the
handles with constant, excessive pressure - Take frequent breaks
All of the above mentioned precautions do not guarantee that you will not sustain white finger disease or carpal tunnel syndrome. Therefore, continual and regular users should closely monitor the condition of their hands and fingers. If any of the above symptoms appear, seek medical advice immediately.
▶ Adjust the carrying strap to your body hight for safe and easy handling handling.
▶ Add Bosch biodegradable chain saw oil until reservoir is full.
▶ Before operation, check the work area and remove all possible hazards.
▶ ALWAYS WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHING: In addition to required safety equipment, it is advisable to wear suitable clothing (long sleeve shirt and trousers) when using this tool.
Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain. Do not remove cut material nor hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure the tool is switched off and unplugged when clearing jammed material. A moment of inattention while operating the pole pruner may result in serious personal injury.
Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Saw chains contacting a live wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool live and could give the operator an electric shock.
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the pole pruner handles, with both hands on the pole pruner and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the pole pruner.
▶ Do not operate a pole pruner in a tree. Operation of a pole pruner while up in a tree may result in personal injury.
▶ Always keep proper footing and operate the pruner only, when standing on fixed, secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of balance or control of the pruner.
▶ When cutting a branch be alert for kickback. When the branch is broached it can bend down and jam the saw chain.
- Carry the pole pruner switched off, by the front handle, the blade pointing forward. When transporting or storing always fit the guide bar cover. Proper handling of the pole pruner will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving saw chain.
▶ Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
▶ Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing loss of control.
Cut wood only. Don't use pole pruner for purposes not intended. For example: do not use pole pruner for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the pole pruner for operations different than intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Causes and operator prevention of kickback: - Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
- Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator.
- Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. - Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the pole pruner which could result in serious personal injury. As a pole pruner user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury. Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:
▶ Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback.
This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
▶ Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to operate the pole pruner. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. When not in use store the pole pruner out of reach of children.
Children and juveniles, with the exception of apprentices older than 16 years and under supervision, may not operate the pole pruner. The same applies for persons who do not or do not sufficiently know how to handle the pole pruner. The operating instructions should always be ready to hand. Persons unfit or tired must not operate the pole pruner.
When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The garden tool is guided more secure with both hands.
▶ Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The saw chain can jam and lead to loss of control over the garden tool.
▶ Switch off and disconnect the pole pruner when changing the working position, when laying down or during transport.
▶ A cut branch can lead to personal injury by falling on you or springing back from the ground. Cut longer branches in sections.
▶ Hold bar against branch firmly, do not apply large force - allow the pruner to cut through at its natural rate. (see fig. 6)
10 | English
▶ Reduce force before the branch is completely cut off. You can get injured, when losing balance and control of the pruner.
▶ Work in steps on thick branches: (1) cut 14 from below; (2) cut off from top further outside; (3) cut off the stump at the stem. (see fig. 6)

Maintenance and Cleaning
▶ Warning! Switch off, remove plug from mains before adjusting or cleaning.
Note: To ensure long and reliable service, carry out the following maintenance regularly.
For safe and proper working, always keep the garden product and the ventilation slots clean.
Regulatory check the pole pruner or obvious defects such as loose, dislodged or damaged saw chain and chain bar, loose fixings and worn or damaged components.
Check that covers and guards are undamaged and correctly fitted. Carry out necessary maintenance or repairs before using.
If the pole pruner should fail despite the care taken in manufacture and testing, repair should be carried out by an authorised customer services agent for Bosch power tools.
Note: Before returning the pole pruner, ensure all oil in the oil reservoir has been emptied.
In all correspondence and spare parts orders, please always include the 10-digit article number given on the type plate of the garden product.
Replacing/Changing the Saw Chain and Chain Bar
Check the saw chain and chain bar according to section Tension saw chain.
The circular groove of the chain bar will wear particularly on the lower edge with time. When replacing the saw chain, turn the chain bar by 180^ to allow even wear, thus extending chain bar life.
Check the drive sprocket. If it is worn out or damaged due to strain, have it exchanged by an authorized Bosch after-sales service.
Sharpening the Saw Chain
Have your chain sharpened professionally at your authorized Bosch after-sales service or sharpen the chain yourself using the Bosch sharpening kit or the Dremel Multi power tool with the appropriate grinder (1453). Observe the sharpening instructions provided with the sharpening kit.
Checking the Automatic Oiler
Proper functioning of the automatic saw chain oiler can be checked by running the pole pruner and pointing the tip of the chain bar towards a piece of cardboard or paper on the ground. Do not touch the ground with the chain and ensure a safety clearance of 20 cm. If an increasing oil pattern develops, the automatic oiler is operating fine. If there is no oil pattern despite a full oil reservoir, see section Troubleshooting or contact your authorized Bosch after-sales service.
After Use/Storage
Clean the moulded plastic housing of the pole pruner using a soft brush and clean cloth. Do not use water, solvents or polishes. Remove all debris, especially from the motor cooling vents.
After 1 – 3 hours of use, remove the cover, the chain bar and the saw chain, and clean them using a brush.
Clean the area under the cover, the drive sprocket and the chain bar assembly from adherant debris using a brush. Clean the oil outlet with a clean cloth.
If the pole pruner is to be stored for a longer period of time, clean the saw chain and the chain bar.
Store the pole pruner in a secure, dry place, out of the reach of children.
Do not place other objects on the garden tool.
Please take care to place down the pole pruner with the oil filler cap facing upward.
When storing in the sales packaging, the oil reservoir must be completely emptied.
▶ Do not modify this product. Unauthorized modifications may impair the safety of your product and may result in increased noise and vibration.
