Frequently Asked Questions - REEF IX/A/90 ELICA

What is the minimum distance between the hood and the cooking surface?
For an electric hob, the minimum distance is 50 cm. For a gas or mixed hob, it is 65 cm. If the cooking device instructions specify a greater distance, that distance takes precedence.
How to clean the grease filters?
The metallic grease filters should be washed monthly by hand with a non-aggressive detergent or in the dishwasher at low temperature and short cycle. Discoloration is possible but does not affect performance.
When should the charcoal filter be replaced?
The charcoal filter should be replaced every 3 to 4 months under normal use. Some models can be regenerated in the oven (10 min at 100°C) after washing, but the pad must be changed every 3 years.
How to reset the filter maintenance signal?
For the grease filter, with the hood on, press button 2 for more than 3 seconds until the signal turns off (flashing number 1). For the charcoal filter (only if activated), do the same (flashing number 2). If both signals are active, repeat the operation twice.
How to activate the charcoal filter signal?
With the hood off, simultaneously press and hold buttons 2 and 3 for 3 seconds. Numbers 1 and 2 will flash alternately for 2 seconds, then the signal will be active. To deactivate, repeat the same procedure: only number 1 will flash.
What to do if the hood displays a flashing 't'?
This is the temperature alarm: the hood detects too high temperature in the display area. It automatically activates speed 3. The alarm stops when the temperature drops. You can press buttons 2, 3, or 4 to exit this mode.
Can I use the hood without a filter?
No, it is imperative to use the hood with the grease filter correctly installed. Without a filter, grease may damage the motor and create a fire risk. Moreover, the hood must never be used without the grid.
How to replace the LED lighting?
The LED lights are integrated and must be replaced by an authorized technical service. Do not attempt to replace them yourself as this could damage the appliance.
Can the hood be used in recirculation mode?
Yes, the hood is designed to operate in filtration (recirculation) mode. For this, an activated charcoal filter must be installed (not supplied with all models) and the corresponding maintenance signal activated. The air is then degreased and deodorized before being returned to the room.
What to do in case of installation defect?
Check that the supply voltage matches that on the rating plate, that the diameter of the exhaust duct matches the connecting flange (otherwise performance drops), and that the minimum distance to the cooking surface is respected. For any electrical intervention, call a qualified technician.

Use

The hood is designed to be used either for exhausting or filter version.

ELICA REEF IX/A/90 - Use - 1

Extraction version

In this case, the fumes are conveyed outside the building by

means of a special pipe connected to the connection ring located on top of the hood.

CAUTION!

The exhaust pipe is not supplied and must be purchased separately.

The diameter of the exhaust pipe must be equal to that of the connection ring.

CAUTION!

If the hood is supplied with an activated charcoal filter, it must be removed.

Connect the hood and the discharge holes on the walls with a diameter equivalent to the air outlet (connection flange).

Using tubes and discharge holes on walls with smaller dimensions will cause a reduction in suction performance and a drastic increase in noise.

Any responsibility in this matter is therefore declined.

Use a duct of the minimum indispensable length. Use a duct with as few elbows as possible (maximum elbow angle: 90°). Avoid drastic changes in the duct cross-section.

ELICA REEF IX/A/90 - CAUTION! - 1

Filtration version

The aspirated air will be degreased and deodorised before being fed back into the room.

In order to use the hood in this version, you have to install a system of additional filtering based on activated charcoal.

The models with no suction motor only operate in ducting mode, and must be connected to an external suction device (not supplied).

The connecting instructions are supplied with the peripheral suction unit.

Installation

The minimum distance between the supporting surface for the cooking equipment on the hob and the lowest part of the range hood must be not less than 50 cm from electric cookers and 65 cm from gas or mixed cookers.

If the instructions for installation for the gas hob specify a greater distance, this must be adhered to.

The mains power supply must correspond to the rating indicated on the plate situated inside the hood. If provided with a plug, connect the hood to a socket in compliance with current regulations and positioned in an accessible area, after installation. If it is not fitted with a plug (direct mains connection) or if the plug is not located in an accessible area, after installation, apply a double pole switch in accordance with standards which assures the complete disconnection of the mains under conditions relating to over-current category III, in accordance with installation instructions.

Grease filter

Fig. 14-32

Traps cooking grease particles.

This must be cleaned once a month (or when the filter saturation indication system - if envisaged on the model in possession - indicates this necessity) using non aggressive detergents, either by hand or in the dishwasher, which must be set to a low temperature and a short cycle.

When washed in a dishwasher, the grease filter may discolor slightly, but this does not affect its filtering capacity.

To remove the grease filter, pull the spring release handle.

Charcoal filter (filter version only)

Fig. 31

It absorbs unpleasant odors caused by cooking.

The charcoal filter can be washed once every two months (or when the filter saturation indication system - if envisaged on the model in possession - indicates this necessity) using hot water and a suitable detergent, or in a dishwasher at 65°C (if the dishwasher is used, select the full cycle function and leave dishes out).

Eliminate excess water without damaging the filter, then remove the mattress located inside the plastic frame and put it in the oven for 10 minutes at 100°C to dry completely. Replace the mattress every 3 years and when the cloth is damaged.

Remove the filter holder frame by turning the knobs (g) 90° that affix the chimney to the cooker hood.

Insert the pad (i) of activated carbon into the frame (h) and fit the whole back into its housing (j).

It is possible to use a traditional carbon filter, neither washable nor regenerable, to be replaced every 3 - 4 months.

The filter holder frame of the carbon filter is welded together; the eventual frame supplied with the hood is not, therefore, to be used.

Insert it into its housing and fix it turning the 2 plastic knobs.

Use

Extractor hoods are intended for: suction and evacuation of polluted air, while simultaneously recycling it.

ELICA REEF IX/A/90 - Use - 1

Extractor with suction

The hood is evacuated outdoors by means of the air duct, which must be connected to the exhaust pipe.

WARNING!

The air duct must be connected to the exhaust pipe. It must not be connected to a chimney or vent used for other purposes.

The diameter of the air duct must correspond to the diameter of the exhaust pipe.

WARNING!

If the extractor is equipped with filters with activated carbon, ask the installer to remove them.

Connect the extractor to the air duct and open the vent. The diameter of the duct must correspond to the diameter of the exhaust pipe for air evacuation.

The connection to the air duct and the vent with the correct diameter reduces the extractor's noise and increases its working time.

In these cases, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility.

Use the duct with the necessary length. Use the duct with the smallest possible number of bends (maximum number of bends: 90 degrees). Do not bend the duct sharply!

ELICA REEF IX/A/90 - WARNING! - 1

Extractor with recirculation

This appliance is intended for use in households and similar applications. For the user's safety in this variant of operation, it is necessary to install an additional air extraction system at the base for air extraction with active ventilation.

Models without an extraction motor are intended for operation only in the variant of the extraction version and must be connected to a peripheral extraction unit, which is purchased separately.

The instructions for connection are supplied with the peripheral extraction unit.

INSTALLATION

The minimum distance between the surface on which the cooking vessels are placed and the lower part of the kitchen extractor must be not less than 50 cm in the case of electric cookers and not less than 65 cm in the case of gas or combined cookers.

If the instructions for the gas cooking appliance specify a greater distance, this must be taken into account.

The voltage in the electrical network must correspond to the voltage specified on the rating plate of the extractor, located on its inner side. If the extractor is supplied with a plug for connection to the socket, the corresponding installation standards must be followed, and the socket must be accessible after installation. If it is not supplied with a plug (direct connection to the mains), or if the plug is not accessible after installation, use a double-pole switch that complies with the standards, ensuring disconnection from the mains under overvoltage category III, in accordance with installation rules.

ELICA REEF IX/A/90 - WARNING! - 1

Version with recirculation

Pull out the recirculation filter and clean it, then put it back. To use the cap in all modes, it is necessary to install an additional filter system with activated carbon.

Models of caps without a motor unit can operate only in one mode of air extraction to the outside, so they must be connected to an external exhaust installation (not included in the supply).

Installation instructions for the peripheral

equipment.

Installation

The distance from the lower part of the exhaust hood to the stove must be at least 50 cm for electric stoves, and 65 cm for gas or combination stoves.

It is necessary to take into account the distances specified in the installation instructions for the stove.

The voltage in the electrical network must correspond to the characteristics indicated on the label, which is located inside the hood. If the hood is supplied with a plug for connecting to the electrical network, then connecting the plug to the socket, which complies with existing standards and is located in an accessible place, can be done after installation. If the hood is not supplied with a plug (for direct connection to the electrical network), or the socket is not in an accessible place, then after installation, it is necessary to install a reliable two-pole switch that ensures complete disconnection from the network under overload conditions of category III, in full compliance with the installation rules.

WARNING!

Before starting the motor, check the electrical connection and verify the correct operation, and ensure that the protective grounding has been installed correctly.

Before starting the motor:

  • Check the dimensions of the selected installation location for the motor. Remove the protective filter/cap from the inlet/outlet (if present, also remove the corresponding plugs). The filter/cap will be reinstalled if you intend to use the hood in recirculation mode.
  • Check that there are no foreign objects inside the hood that were placed there during transportation (e.g., packaging with manuals, warranty card, etc.). If there are, remove them and keep them.

In the mounting kit, the screws and speed are included. However, it is necessary to contact a qualified technician to verify the suitability of the materials depending on the type of wall or ceiling. The wall/ceiling must be strong enough to support the weight of the hood.

Grease filter

Fig. 14-32

Grease filters trap grease particles during cooking.

Clean them at least once a month (or when the filter replacement indicator, if present in your model, indicates the need), using non-abrasive detergents by hand or in the dishwasher at low temperature and short cycle.

Washing in the dishwasher may cause slight discoloration of the filter, but its filtering characteristics remain unchanged.

To remove the grease filter, pull the spring handle of the filter.

Carbon filter (only in recirculation mode)

Man. 31

Replace the charcoal filter.

The charcoal filter can be washed and reused (or, if your model has a filter regeneration system, it will be indicated on the data plate) in warm water with mild detergent or in a dishwasher at 65°C (in the last rinse, perform a full cycle without dishes inside the dishwasher).

To avoid damaging the filter, remove the hood from the mounting frame and keep it in the oven for 10 minutes at 100°C to ensure complete drying.

Replace the hood every year and the cloth filters regularly.

Remove the support frame from the filter, turning the handle (g) 90° which attaches it to the hood.

Insert the new charcoal filter (i) into the frame (h) and reassemble everything into the hood (j).

It is possible to use a traditional charcoal filter, which does not need to be washed or regenerated, replacing it every 3-4 months.

The frame and the charcoal filter are welded together, so the frame, if it comes with the hood, should not be reused.

For use, insert the filter into the appropriate housing and close it, following the instructions.

Replacing the lamp

The hood is equipped with LED lighting technology.

To ensure optimal lighting, their lifespan is 10 times longer than traditional bulbs and they provide 90% energy savings.
