Can not seem to connect the two poles together

The RY18PHT40A shaft comes in two sections that need to be joined before use. To connect them:
- Hold the lower section (handle end) steady and align the upper section (blade end) with the opening at the top.
- Press the release button or latch on the connector collar, then push the two sections firmly together until you hear a click.
- Release the button and give both sections a firm tug in opposite directions to confirm the joint is locked.
If they resist, check that the release button is fully depressed while pushing, and that the inner tube and collar are clean and free of debris. A small amount of misalignment can prevent engagement, so make sure the sections are straight before pushing.
If the joint still won't lock, the mechanism may be damaged -- in that case, RYOBI's customer service or an authorised service centre would be the next step.
