Frequently Asked Questions - Steadi R129 Joie

What is the difference between rear-facing and forward-facing modes?

The rear-facing mode is recommended for children from 40 to 105 cm (max weight 18 kg), ideally from birth to 4 years. The forward-facing mode is for children from 76 to 105 cm (max weight 18 kg) and from 15 months. It is advised to use rear-facing mode as long as possible for optimal safety.

How to adjust the height of the headrest and harness?

Pull the headrest adjustment lever (located at the back) and slide the headrest to the desired position (6 positions). The shoulder harness must be at or below the shoulders in rear-facing mode, and at the shoulders in forward-facing mode.

Can I install this seat on a passenger seat with a front airbag?

No, never use a rear-facing car seat on a seat equipped with an active front airbag. For forward-facing mode, check the vehicle's recommendations. If in doubt, consult the vehicle's manual.

How to clean the cover and soft parts?

Remove the cover and soft parts following the disassembly instructions. Wash them in cold water (≤30°C) with a mild detergent. Do not iron, do not use bleach or dry clean. Let dry in the shade.

When should I replace the car seat?

Replace the seat immediately after an accident, even if no visible damage is apparent. Also replace it if parts are damaged or missing. The recommended lifespan is generally 6 to 10 years (check the manufacturing date).

How to correctly install the seat in rear-facing mode?

Place the seat on the vehicle seat. Route the seat belt through the green slots at the back of the seat. The shoulder belt must go through the designated slot. Open the locking mechanism, insert the belt, then close it. Pull the belt to tighten firmly. Check that the seat does not move more than 2.5 cm.

Can I use the seat without the newborn insert?

The newborn insert is recommended for children under 60 cm in height. It improves side protection and comfort. In forward-facing mode, the insert must be removed. For taller children, you may omit it if the child outgrows the insert.

How to adjust the harness strap?

To loosen, press the harness adjustment button (located under the front cover) while pulling both shoulder straps. To tighten, pull the front adjustment strap. Make sure there is no slack by leaving about one hand's thickness between the child and the straps.

Is the seat compatible with all vehicles?

This seat is a universal restraint device compliant with UN R129 regulation. It is installed using the vehicle's seat belt. However, always check compatibility with your vehicle before purchase. Consult the vehicle's manual for approved seating positions.

How to remove the soft parts for washing?

Press the red button on the buckle to open the harness. Follow steps 26 to 33 in the manual: remove the strap covers, detach the attachments, then remove the cover starting from the back. Consult the manual for detailed diagrams. Reassembly is done in reverse order.

While traveling with the Steadi™ R129 enhanced child restraint you are using a high quality, fully certified safety enhanced child restraint. Please carefully read this manual and follow each step to ensure a comfortable ride and best protection for your child.

To use this Joie enhanced child restraint with vehicle belt, your child must meet the following requirements.

Rearward Facing: Child height 40cm-105cm/ max. 18kg; Forward Facing: Child height 76cm-105cm/ max. 18kg;

! BE cautious that the rigid items and plastic parts of the enhanced child restraint system shall be so located and installed that they are not liable to become trapped by a movable seat or in the door of the vehicle.
! DO NOT use the rearward facing enhanced child restraint systems in seating positions where there is an active frontal airbag installed.
! To use this enhanced child restraint according to the UN Regulation No.129, your child must meet the following requirements.
! Rearward Facing: Child height 40cm -105cm / max. 18kg
! Forward Facing: Child height 76cm - 105cm / max. 18kg
! IMPORTANT - DO NOT USE FORWARD FACING BEFORE THE CHILD'S AGE EXCEEDS 15 MONTHS (Refer to instructions).
! The enhanced child restraint may not fit in all approved vehicles. Please refer to the fitting list included for more details.
! Any straps holding the enhanced child restraint to the vehicle should be tight, that any straps restraining the child should be adjusted to the child's body, and that straps should not be twisted.
! After your child is placed in this enhanced child restraint, the safety belt must be used correctly. Ensure that any lap strap is worn low down, so that the pelvis is firmly engaged, shall be stressed.
This enhanced child restraint should be replaced when it has been subject to violent stresses in an accident. An accident can cause damage to it that you cannot see.
! Consider the danger of making any alterations or additions to the device without approval of the adequate authority, and the danger of not following closely to the installation instructions provided by the enhanced child restraint manufacturer.
! Please keep this enhanced child restraint away from sunlight, otherwise it may be too hot for child's skin. Always touch the enhanced child restraint before placing child in it.

WARNING

! NEVER leave your child unattended with this enhanced child restraint.
! Any luggage or other objects liable to cause injuries in the event of a collision shall be properly secured.
! The enhanced child restraint system shall NOT BE USED without the soft goods.
! The soft goods should not be replaced with any other than the one recommended by the manufacturer, because the soft goods constitutes an integral part of the restraint performance.
! Please check if this enhanced child restraint can be installed properly in your vehicle before you purchase it.
! NO enhanced child restraint can guarantee full protection from injury in an accident. However, proper use of this enhanced child restraint will reduce the risk of serious injury or death to your child.
! DO NOT install this enhanced child restraint without following the instructions in this manual or you may put your child at serious risk of injury or death.
! DO NOT use this enhanced child restraint if it has damaged or missing parts.
! DO NOT have your child in large/oversized clothes because this may prevent your child from being, properly and securely fastened by the shoulder harness straps and the crotch strap between the legs.

In case of emergency or accidents, it is most important to have your child taken care of with first aids and medical treatment immediately.

1. This is Universal Belted Enhanced Child Restraint System. It is approved according to UN Regulation No.129, for use primarily in "Universal seating positions" as indicated by vehicle manufacturers in the vehicle user's manual.

Important

When the child is suitable for both forward and rearward facing modes, it is recommended to install this child restraint in the rearward facing mode as it is relatively safer.

Height Adjustment

for Head Support and Shoulder Harnesses

When used in rear facing mode, the shoulder harness height must be even with or just below the top of child's shoulders.
! When used forward facing, the shoulder harness height must be even with the top of child's shoulders.
1. Please adjust the head support and shoulder harnesses to proper height according to the child's height.
2. Pull the head support adjustment lever 6 -1, meanwhile pull up or push down the head support until it snaps into one of the 6 positions. The head support positions are shown as 8

Using in the rear facing mode

! Please install the child restraint on the vehicle seat, and then put the child in the child restraint.
The child restraint can not be used if the vehicle safety belt buckle (female buckle end) is too long to anchor the child restraint securely. ^10 -1

1. Fasten the belts in the a green safety-belt slots at the back of the body.
   ! Shoulder belt must pass through the safety-belt slot.

1. Open the lock-off device and insert the safety belt through it. 12
2. While pressing the child restraint, pull the belts to fasten the child restraint tightly and securely.

1. To lengthen the shoulder harness belts, press the harness adjustment button while pulling out the shoulder harnesses to loosen. (grab the both two shoulder pads to pull).

! We recommend using the full infant insert while the baby is under 60cm and can be used until they outgrow the infant insert. The infant insert increases side impact protection.

1. Place the child into the enhanced child restraint and pass both arms through the harnesses.
2. Engage the buckle until it clicks. 17

To lengthen the shoulder harness belts, press the harness adjustment button while pulling out the shoulder harnesses to loosen. (grab the both two shoulder pads to pull).
! Open the belt buckle by pressing firmly on the red button. 21 -1, place the child in the seat and put the shoulder belts over the child's shoulder. 23
! Remove the infant insert when forward facing mode.
! Pull down the adjustment webbing and adjust it to the proper length so that your child is snugly secured.
! Make sure the space between the child and the shoulder harness is about the thickness of one hand.

Detach Soft Goods

Press the red button to disengage the buckle.

Follow steps 27 - 30 to detach soft goods.

To re-attach the soft goods please repeat the above steps in the reverse step.

Care and Maintenance

Please wash the seat cover and inner padding with cold water under 30°C.
! Do not iron the soft goods.
Do not bleach or dry clean the soft goods.
Do not use undiluted detergents gasoline or other organic solvent to wash the enhanced child restraint or base. It may cause damage to the enhanced child restraint.
Do not wring out the seat cover and inner padding to dry. It may leave the seat cover and inner padding with wrinkles.
! Please hang dry the seat cover and inner padding in the shade.
Please remove the enhanced child restraint and base from the vehicle seat if not in use for a long period of time. Put the enhanced child restraint in a cool, dry place where your child cannot access it.
Do not tamper with the harness connectors during cleaning.
