Failure to follow all instructions listed below, may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. WORK AREA ■ Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents. ■ Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids or gases. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. ELECTRICAL SAFETY ■ Don't expose power tools to rain. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock or malfunction. ■ Use battery only with charger listed (Not Included).

BPP-1817M/BPP-1815M BC-1800/BC-1815S PERSONAL SAFETY ■ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. ■ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts and exhaust. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. ■ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better control of the tool in unexpected situations. Do not use on a ladder or unstable support. ■ Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask must be used for appropriate conditions.

■ Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is danger-ous and must be repaired. ■ Store idle tools out of the reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. ■ Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the tool's operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. ■ Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create a risk of injury when used on another tool. SERVICE ■ Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury. ■ When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorised parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES

■ Do not allow children to operate hand vac or play with hand vac as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used near children. ■ This hand vac is intended for household use ONLY. ■ Use this hand vac ONLY for its intended use as described in this manual. Use only the attachments recommended in this manual. ■ If hand vac is not working properly, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water, return to your nearest service centre. ■ Do not abuse cord. Never carry charger or base by the cord or yank to disconnect from electrical outlet. Grasp charger, not the cord and pull to unplug. Do not allow cord to hang over edge of table or counter or to touch hot surfaces. ■ Do not handle charger or hand vac with wet hands. ■ Do not put any objects in ventilation openings. Do not use with any opening blocked. Keep openings free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow. ■ NEVER vacuum materials such as hot coals, cigarette butts, matches, etc. ■ Do not use without dust bowl or filter in place.

Be aware of possible hazards when using the hand vac or when changing accessories. ■ Remove battery when the vacuum is not in use and before servicing. ■ Do not place hand vac or batteries near fire or heat. They may explode. ■ The hand vac should be charged in a location where the temperature is more than 10°C but less than 38°C. ■ Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact with skin, wash at least 10 minutes then seek immediate medical attention. ■ Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in the presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilot light. To reduce the risk of serious personal in jury, never use any cordless product in the presence of an open flame. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately. ■ Know your power tool. Read operator's manual care- fully. Learn its applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to this tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire or serious injury. ■ To reduce the risk of electric shock, use the vacuum indoors only. ■ Always wear safety glasses. Everyday eyeglasses have only impact-resistant lenses; they are NOT safety glasses. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury. ■ Protect your lungs. Wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury. ■ Electric shock could occur if charged outdoors or on wet surfaces. ■ Check damaged parts. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre. Following this rule will reduce the risk of shock, fire or serious injury. ■ Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also. DESCRIPTION

5. Battery Pack (Not Included)

OPERATION Before attempting to use your Hand Vac, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety requirements. WARNING Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second issufficient to inflict serious injury. WARNING Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating tools. Failure to do so could result in objects being thrown into your eyes, resulting inpossible serious injury. WARNING Do not use any attachments or accessories not recommended by the manufacturer of this tool. The use of attachments or accessories not recommended can result in serious personal injury.

CHV-18WDM manual.qxd 3/05/05 10:55 Page 6OPERATION APPLICATIONS You may use this tool for the following purposes: ■ Light-duty vacuuming of dry surfaces. ■ Light-duty vacuuming of damp or wet surfaces. CAUTION To prevent damage to the battery pack, remove the battery pack from the charger immediately if no LED comes on. Return the battery pack and charger to your nearest service centre for checking or replacing. Also, if you are removing the battery pack from the charger and no LEDs are on, return both the battery pack and the charger to your nearest service centre. Do not insert another battery pack into the charger. A damaged charger may damage a battery pack.

TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK NOT INCLUDED

(Fig. 2) ■ Place the battery pack in the hand vac. Align the raised rib on the battery pack with groove in hand vac's battery port. ■ Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap in place and that the battery pack is secured in the hand vac before beginning operation. CAUTION When placing battery pack in the tool, be sure raised rib on battery pack aligns with the bottom of the drill and latches into place properly. Improper installation of the battery pack can cause damage to internal components.

TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK NOT INCLUDED

(Fig. 2) Locate the latches on the side of the battery pack and depress both sides to release the battery pack from the hand vac. WARNING Battery tools are always in operating condition. Therefore, switch should always be locked when not in use or carrying at your side. STARTING/STOPPING THE VACUUM (Fig. 3) ■ To start the vacuum: slide the switch toward the front of the vacuum. ■ To stop the vacuum: slide the switch toward the back of the vacuum. WET VACUUMING (Fig. 4) When using the vacuum to pick up liquids or to vacuum damp areas, it may be helpful to use the squeegee attachment. The full line icon on the dust bowl of the hand vac indicates the maximum level for liquids within the dust bowl. The hand vac should never be filled past the full line. Empty the dust bowl often to avoid overfilling. Do not lift the hand vac with liquids in the dust bowl. WARNING Never use the hand vac to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline. This could cause the motor to ignite. ADDING ATTACHMENTS (Fig. 5-7) The brush attachment, crevice tool and squeegee attachment can be easily snapped into place on your hand vac. ■ Turn off the vacuum. ■ Insert the attachment to the front end of the vacuum dust bowl, making sure the attachment is firmly snapped into place. MAINTENANCE WARNING When servicing, use only identical Ryobi replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. WARNING Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power tool operation or when blowing dust. If operation is dusty, also wear a dust mask. WARNING To avoid serious personal injury, always remove thebattery pack from the tool when cleaning or performing any maintenance. GENERAL MAINTENANCE Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease etc.

Chemicals can damage, weaken ordestroy plastic which may result in serious personal injury. Only the parts shown on the parts list are intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer. All other parts should be replaced at a Authorised Service Centre. CLEANING THE HAND VAC (Fig. 8-11) The dust bowl should be checked, emptied and cleaned periodically to obtain maximum dust collection. REMOVING THE DUST BOWL (Fig. 9) ■ Remove the battery pack from the vacuum. ■ Depress the release button located on top of the hand vac. Pull the dust bowl down and out as shown to separate it from the motor housing. NOTE: Do not tilt or tip the hand vac back with liquids in the dust bowl.

REMOVING AND CLEANING THE FILTERS

(Fig. 10) ■ Remove the battery pack from the vacuum. ■ Remove the assembled filter rack and filter by pulling them out of the dust bowl. NOTE: The filter is locked in place in the filter rack. ■ Twist the filter to unlock from the filter rack tabs and remove the filter. ■ Shake or lightly brush any dust or dirt off the filter. ■ Empty the filter, filter rack and dust bowl; wash if necessary. Before reattaching to the hand vac, make sure all pieces are completely dry. REPLACING THE FILTER (Fig. 11) ■ Place the filter in the filter rack ensuring the slots in the filter are aligned with the tabs on the filter rack. When assembled correctly, the arrow shown on the filter should be pointed up. Twist the filter to lock in place. ■ Place the assembled filter rack and filter into the dust bowl. REATTACHING THE DUST BOWL (Fig. 11) Position the two sections as shown. Align slots on bottom of dust bowl with tabs on bottom of motor housing then snap the two sections together.
