WARNING!
Before using the power tool, please read the follow:
– these operating instructions,
- the "General safety instructions" on the handling of power tools in the enclosed booklet (leaflet-no.: 315.915),
– the currently valid site rules and the regulations for the prevention of accidents.
This power tool is state of the art and has been constructed in accordance with the acknowledged safety regulations.
Nevertheless, when in use, the power tool may be a danger to life and limb of the user or a third party, or the power tool or other property may be damaged.
The hedge trimmer may be used only –asintended,
– in perfect working order.
Faults which impair safety must be repaired immediately.
Intended use
The hedge trimmer GHT 55 18-EC is designed for trimming hedges, bushes and shrubs.
Safety instructions for hedge trimmer

WARNING!
Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
■ Do not use the hedge trimmer in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.
- Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area. Power cords or cables may be hidden in hedges or bushes and can be accidentally cut by the blade.
■ Wear ear protection. Adequate protective equipment will reduce the risk of hearing loss.
- Hold the hedge trimmer by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the blade may contact hidden wiring. Blades contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the hedge trimmer "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
- Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Blades continue to move after the switch is turned off. A moment of inattention while operating the hedge trimmer may result in serious personal injury.
■ When clearing jammed material or servicing the hedge trimmer, make sure all power switches are off and the battery pack is removed or disconnected. Unexpected actuation of the hedge
trimmer while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.
■ When clearing jammed material or servicing the hedge trimmer, make sure all power switches are off and the lock-off is in the locked position. Unexpected actuation of the hedge trimmer while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.
- Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the blade stopped and taking care not to operate any power switch. Proper carrying of the hedge trimmer will decrease the risk of inadvertent starting and resultant personal injury from the blades.
■ When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always use the blade cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will decrease the risk of personal injury from the blades.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!
Noise and vibration
The noise and vibration values have been determined in accordance with EN 62841. The A-weighted noise level of the power tool is typically:
– Sound pressure level L_pA 69 dB(A);
- Sound power level L_WA : 89 dB(A);
– Uncertainty: K = 2,38 dB.
Total vibration value:
- Emission value a_h : ≤ 2,5 m/s
- Uncertainty: K = 1,5 m/s

CAUTION!
The indicated measurements refer to new power tools. Daily use causes the noise and vibration values to change.

NOTE
The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a measurement method standardized in EN 62841 and may be used to compare one tool with another.
That the declared vibration total value(s) and the declared noise emission value(s) may also be used in a preliminary assessment of exposure.
However, if the tool is used for different applications, with different cutting accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission level may differ.
This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period. To make an accurate estimation of the vibration exposure level, it is also necessary to take into account the times when the tool is switched off or running but not actually in use.
This may significantly decrease the exposure level over the total working period. Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the cutting accessories, keep the hands warm, organization of work patterns.

WARNING!
- that the vibration and noise emissions during actual use of the power tool can differ from the declared values depending on the ways in which the tool is used especially what kind of workpiece is processed; and
- of the need to identify safety measures to protect the operator that are based on an estimation of exposure in the actual conditions of use (taking account of all parts of the operating cycle such as the times when the tool is switched off and when it is running idle in addition to the trigger time).

CAUTION!
Wear ear defenders at a sound pressure above 85 dB(A).

Operating instructions

WARNING!
Do not use on a ladder, rooftop, tree, or other unstable support. Stable footing on a solid surface enables better control of the hedge trimmer in unexpected situations.

WARNING!
Remove the battery before carrying out any work on the power tool.
Before switching on the power tool
Unpack the power tool and accessories and check that no parts are missing or damaged. Remove the blade cover from the cutting device.

NOTE
The batteries are not fully charged on delivery. Prior to initial operation, charge the batteries fully. Refer to the charger operating manual.
Inserting/replacing the battery
■ Press the charged battery into the power tool until it clicks into place (see figure B).
■ To remove, press the release button(1.) and pull out the battery(2.) (see figure C).

CAUTION!
When the device is not in use, protect the battery contacts. Loose metal parts may short circuit the contacts; explosion and fire hazard!
Battery state of charge
■ Press the button to check the state of charge at the state of charge indicator LEDs. If one of the LEDs flashes, the battery must be recharged. If none of the LEDs light up after the button is pressed, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. The indicator goes out after 5 seconds.

NOTE
Follow the instructions for charging the battery set out in the charger operating manual.
Switching on the power tool (see figure D)
■ To switch the power tool on:
Hold the power tool with one hand at the main handle and with the other at the front handle.
Press the on/off switch and the safety switch at the same time.
■ To switch the power tool off:
Switch the power tool off releasing either the on/off switch or the safety switch.
Angle Adjustment (see figure E-G)
■ The angle of the main handle can be adjusted in five positions (see figure H1-H5).
■ Press the angle adjustment button and hold it in position.
■ Turn the main handle clockwise or counterclockwise.
■ Release the angle adjustment button and turn the main handle until it locks in place.

WARNING!
The hedge trimmer will not run unless the main handle locks in place.
Trimming
■ Cut and remove branches exceeding the cutting capacity of this product using a proper pruner before operation.
■ Move the cutting device lightly through the cutting surface in a sweeping motion following the shape of the hedge or shrub.
■ A slight tilt downwards of the cutting device in the direction of motion is recommended for optimum cutting performance.
■ Do not to rush and do not attempt to cut too much with one stroke of the cutting device.
■ First cut both sides from the bottom cutting upwards to the top. This will prevent any of the trimmings falling into the path of the area still to be cut (see figure I).
■ After cutting the sides proceed to the top. Try to keep the cutting device angled at approximately 15^ to the cutting surface (see figure J).
- Cut in a number of stages if the area being cut is particularly long to achieve a better result; smaller trimmings will allow for easy composting.
Maintenance and care

WARNING!
Remove the battery before carrying out any work on the power tool.
Cleaning

CAUTION!
When cleaning with compress air, always wear goggles.
Regularly clean the power tool and ventilation slots. Frequency of cleaning is dependent on the material and duration of use. Regularly blow out the housing interior and motor with dry compressed air.
Blade cleaning and lubricating
- Keep the blade clean and free of debris. Remove trimmings.
■ Apply a small amount of suitable lubricant on the cutting device to retain a good cutting performance. - Keep the blade sharp. Have a worn or damaged cutting device replaced with a new one of the same type by a qualified specialist.
■ Adjustment of the distance between blades is not necessary as this is predetermined by the manufacturer.
■ If the cutting device overheats during operation, it is necessary to lubricate the internal surfaces of the blades. (see figure K)
Repairs
Repairs may be carried out by an authorized customer service center only.
