Description of the device
Powered by a brushless motor, the speed of the UF/E can be regulated from 10,000 to a maximum of 32,000 revolutions per minute.
The sophisticated sensor-controlled regulation of the rotor position guarantees a virtually constant and demand-oriented torque in a wide speed range, even under different loads.
Even in demanding continuous operation, the optimised cooling air conduction always ensures a stable temperature balance of the critical components of the motor and electronics.
For maximum quiet running and durability, the spindle is mounted in triple bearings in elaborately machined fi ts. To ensure that the motor starts gently, the device is equipped with a soft start-up.
These are the best prerequisites for fi rst-class results when operating in different materials with tools of different diameters, because the very sensitive setting of the electronically maintained constant speed is also easily possible in
coordination with other milling parameters. Two different clamping diameters on the elaborately machined, solid unit base of sturdy die-cast aluminium further expand the range of applications: With the 20 mm clamping fi t, the device can be easily used with the corresponding accessories from the Proxxon range, and the 43 mm device fi t is suitable for use in other accessories available on the market.
The tools are guided both reliably as precisely with the standard ER11 type collets. With the aid of the conveniently arranged lock button for blocking the shaft and the generously dimensioned sleeve nut, the collets can be replaced or the tools exchanged without any problems.

Noise/vibration information
The information on vibration and noise emission has been determined in compliance with the prescribed standardised and normative measuring methods and can be used to compare electrical devices and tools with each other.
These values also allow a preliminary evaluation of the loads caused by vibration and noise emissions.
Warning!
Depending on the operating conditions while operating the device, the actually occurring emissions could differ from the values specified above!
Please bear in mind that the vibration and noise emission can deviate from the values given in these instructions, depending on the conditions of use of the tool. This especially depends on the work piece to be machined and the utilised bits and cutters and its wear condition. Always ensure you have adequately sharp bits and cutters and a well-maintained drive. Poorly maintained tools, unsuitable working methods, different work pieces, a too high feed rate or unsuitable work pieces or materials or unsuitable bits and cutters can significantly increase the vibration load and noise emission over the entire work period.
To more accurately estimate the actual vibration and noise load, also take the times into consideration where the device is switched off, or is running but is not actually in use. This can clearly reduce the vibration and noise load across the entire work period.
32,000/min
Warning!
- To reduce vibrations, make sure your tool is in proper condition!
- Ensure regular and proper maintenance of your tool
- Stop operation of the tool immediately if excessive vibration occurs!
- Unsuitable bits and cutters can cause excessive vibration and noises. Only use suitable bits and cutters!
- When working with the device, take sufficient breaks if necessary!
Operation
Before work:
Caution!
Your UF/E milling spindle is not designed as a hand-held device but must be clamped in a suitable device (drill stand, milling portal or similar) for functional and safety reasons!
Caution!
When selecting the clamping device, it is imperative to ensure sufficient stability! The reaction forces that occur when working with the UF/E milling spindle are sometimes considerable!
Unstable clamping devices not only have a negative influence on the work result but are also a safety risk.
Clamping the milling spindle (Fig. 2):
There are two clamping diameters on the underside of the device for clamping:
- 20 mm: For clamping on Proxxon clamping fixtures
- 43 mm: For clamping in standard clamping devices available on the market and in the Proxxon BFB 2000 drilling and milling bench (article number 20000).
To operate, the UF/E milling spindle must be fixed in a clamping device. Suitable drill stands are good examples of this. It is highly recommended to use the milling spindle in both manual and CNC-controlled vertical or portal milling machines.
In the following we will demonstrate the clamping process on the PROXXON FF 500 BL fi-nishing miller or its CNC version:
- Loosen Allen screw 1 and remove the entire milling head 2 from the holder of the z carriage 3.
- Insert the collar of the Micromot adapter (Proxxon no. 24346) 4 into the holder of the z carriage and loosely screw in the Allen screw 1.
- Insert the milling spindle 6 into the 20 mm fi t 5 and tighten it with the Allen screw 7.
- Align the milling spindle and tighten the Allen screw 1
Fig. 3 shows the typical installation situation in a portal milling machine. The necessary steps to fi x the device are the same.
Inserting and changing the collets (Fig. 4):
Caution!
Always disconnect the mains plug during all assembly and maintenance work to avoid inadvertent device start-up! Unintentional start-up can cause not only damage but also injury.
Caution!
Do not use damaged or deformed milling cutters or grinding pins, only use tools in perfect condition!
Caution!
Make sure that the selected bits and cutters are suitable for speeds of at least up to 32000 revolutions per minute.
Caution!
Always use collets and bits and cutters with the respectively suitable diameters!
The scope of delivery of the milling spindle includes 3x ER 11 standard collets with diameters of 2.5 mm, 3,2 mm and 6 mm. This covers the most common milling shaft diameters. Any addi-
tional diameters that are required can easily be purchased in the relevant shops:
The ER collet specification is standardised, which means the collets are easily interchangeable.
- Press the lock button 1
- Loosen and unscrew the sleeve nut 2 with a suitable open-end spanner
- Gently press collet chuck 3 sideways into the loosened sleeve nut to remove or clip in a new collet chuck.
- Loosely screw the sleeve nut with the collet onto the spindle thread.
Inserting and changing the milling cutter (Fig. 5):
- Press the lock button and loosen the sleeve nut with a suitable open-end spanner.
- Insert or exchange milling tool 3
- Press the lock button and re-tighten the sleeve nut
Working with the device
Caution!
To operate, the work piece must be securely clamped or otherwise fixed! An improperly fastened work piece can work loose, fly about and cause injury!
Switching on:
- Switch on the device by pressing the switch 5 (Fig. 1).
- The speed can be adjusted with knob 4.
Carefully select the correct speed. The set speed is shown in Display 3 and must be multiplied by a factor of 1000. Note that smaller tool diameters tend to require higher speeds and vice versa.
The correct speed depends above all on the tool diameter, and in the case of milling cutters, on the cutting edge geometry and number and on the respective material pairings.
Caution!
Please also note the recommendations of the milling tool manufacturers!
The topic is too complex to give blanket recommendations here; the influence of individual parameters can be decisive.
If you are not sure, we recommend you always work with smaller infeeds and feeds of the tool and try experimenting a little. This helps you to get the necessary feel for the tool and to make full use of its performance range and diverse possibilities over time.
Caution!
Avoid unexpected start-up! In the event of a power failure or other malfunction, switch off the device and disconnect it from the power supply.
Maintenance, cleaning and care
Caution!
Disconnect the mains plug prior to every adjustment, maintenance measure or repair!
Every device is dirtied by dust when working. Cleaning is therefore essential. To ensure a long service life, however, the device should be cleaned with a soft cloth or brush after each use. Mild soap or other suitable cleaning agent may be used in this context. Solvents or cleaning agents containing alcohol (e.g. petrol, cleaning alcohols etc.) should be avoided as they could damage the plastic casings.
