LZR423 ENGLISH (Original instructions) Intended use This Black & Decker tool has been designed to project laser lines to aid in DIY applications. This tool is intended for consumer use only. Safety instructions Warning! When using battery-powered tools, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce the risk of re, leaking batteries, personal injury and mate- rial damage. u Read all of this manual carefully before operating the tool. u Retain this manual for future reference. Keep work area clean u Cluttered areas and benches can cause accidents. Consider work area environment u Do not expose the tool to rain. Do not use the tool in damp or wet conditions. Keep the work area well lit. Do not use the tool where there is a risk of causing re or explosion, e.g. in the presence of ammable liquids and gases. Keep children away u Do not allow children, visitors or animals to come near the work area or to touch the tool. Do not overreach u Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Stay alert u Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. u Do not operate the tool when you are tired. Use appropriate tool u The intended use is described in this instruction manual. Warning! The use of any accessory or attachment or performance of any operation with this tool other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury. Check for damaged parts u Before use, carefully check the tool for damage. Ensure that the tool will operate properly and perform its intended function. u Do not use the tool if any part is damaged or defective. Store idle tools u When not in use, tools and batteries should be stored in a dry, locked up or high place, out of reach of children. Repairs u This tool complies with relevant safety requirements. u Repairs should only be carried out by qualied persons using original spare parts; otherwise this may result in considerable danger to the user. Additional safety instructions for non- rechargeable batteries u Never attempt to open for any reason. u Do not store in locations where the temperature may exceed 40 °C. u When disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given in the section “Protecting the environment”. Do not inciner- ate the batteries. u Under extreme conditions, battery leakage may occur. When you notice liquid on the batteries, proceed as fol- lows: w Carefully wipe the liquid off using a cloth. Avoid skin contact. Additional safety instructions for lasers Warning! Laser radiation. Do not look into the laser beam. Do not view the laser beam directly with optical instruments. Refer to the laser prod- uct characteristics. This product is not to be used by children under
u This laser complies with class 2 according to EN 60825-1. Do not replace a laser diode with a different type. If damaged, have the laser repaired by an authorised repair agent. u Do not use the laser for any purpose other than projecting laser lines.4 ENGLISH (Original instructions) u An exposure of the eye to the beam of a class 2 laser is considered safe for a maximum of 0.25 seconds. Eyelid reexes will normally provide adequate protection. At distances over 1 m, the laser complies with class 1 and thus is considered completely safe. u Never look into the laser beam directly and intentionally. u Do not use optical tools to view the laser beam. u Do not set up the tool at a position where the laser beam can cross any person at head height. u Do not let children come near the laser. Warning! This tool is intended for indoor use only. Do not use the tool for outdoor applications. Residual risks. Additional residual risks may arise when using the tool which may not be included in the enclosed safety warnings. These risks can arise from misuse, prolonged use etc. Even with the application of the relevant safety regulations and the implementation of safety devices, certain residual risks can not be avoided. These include: u Injuries caused by touching any moving parts. u Injuries caused by touching any hot parts. u Injuries caused when changing any parts or accessories. u Injuries caused by prolonged use of the appliance. When using any appliance for prolonged periods ensure you take regular breaks. Safety of others u This appliance is not intended for use by persons (includ- ing children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concern- ing use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. u Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Features This appliance includes some or all of the following features.
Assembly Warning! Make sure that the tool is switched off. Fitting the battery (g. B) u Remove the battery cover (4) from the tool. u Connect the battery to the connector. The larger battery terminal connects to the smaller connector terminal. u Ret the cover and let it click into place. Installing the tool (g. A, C & D) The tool can be installed on a horizontal surface such as a oor or a table. Alternatively, the tool can be mounted on the tripod (5). The tool can also be hung from a joist or other secure structure using the hanging strap (6). Note: the laser lines will only be level if the tool is kept within 5° from vertical. Mounting the tool on the tripod (g. C) u Align the threaded screw (8) on the tripod with the laser. u Screw the laser to the tripod and make sure that it is secure. u To remove the tool, unscrew the laser from the tripod. Hanging the tool (g. A & D) u Thread the hanging strap (6) through the slot in the top of the tool and fasten the hook. u Adjust the tool so that it hangs relatively level. Installing and adjusting the tripod (g. A & E) Installing u Choose a smooth and level surface to install the tripod. u Flip open the lever locks (7) (g. A) and extend the legs to the required length. u Flip the lever locks closed to lock the legs. u Mount the tool to the tripod. Adjusting u Loosen the locking knob (10) (g. E). u Pull out the fold-away handle (9) and rotate it until the required height is reached. u Tighten the locking knob (10) to secure the tripod at the adjusted height.5 ENGLISH (Original instructions) Use u Install the tool as required. u To increase working distance and accuracy, place the laser in the middle of your working area. Brightness of area may affect line visibility. u Be aware that extreme temperature changes can cause movement or shifting of building structures, tripods, equip- ment, etc. This may affect accuracy. Verify your setup before each use as the laser may have moved. Switching on and off (g. F) u To switch the tool on, slide the on/off switch (1) to the right. u To switch the tool off, slide the on/off switch to the left. Selecting the operating mode (g. F) u For projecting a single laser beam scanning a third of a circle, slide the operating mode selector (2) to the left. u For projecting a triple laser beam scanning a a full circle, slide the operating mode selector (2) to the right. Maintenance Your Black & Decker corded/cordless appliance/tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning. Warning! Before performing any maintenance on corded/ cordless power tools: u Switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack. u Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your appliance/tool using a soft brush or dry cloth. Protecting the environment
Separate collection. This product must not be disposed of with normal household waste. Should you nd one day that your Black & Decker product needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not dispose of it with household waste. Make this product avail- able for separate collection.
Separate collection of used products and packaging allows materials to be recycled and used again.
