Frequently Asked Questions - IBHS 62 IKRA

What type of fuel to use for the hedge trimmer IBHS 62?
Use a mixture of unleaded petrol (octane rating min. 91 RON) and two-stroke engine oil (standard JASO FC or ISO-L-EGC) in a ratio of 40:1. Do not use E10 or leaded petrol.
How to start the hedge trimmer cold?
Set the on/off switch to 1, press the primer bulb until fuel appears, raise the choke lever, pull slowly then quickly on the starter cord. As soon as the engine starts, lower the choke lever. Let it run for a minute before use.
How to safely stop the engine?
Release the throttle lever, then set the on/off switch to 0. Wait for the blade to stop completely before putting down the device.
How often should the air filter be cleaned?
Clean the air filter every 8 hours of operation, or more often in dusty conditions. Wash it with warm soapy water, dry it, and put it back.
How to adjust the blade clearance?
Loosen the nuts under the cutting device, turn the screws a quarter to half turn counterclockwise, then retighten the nuts. The clearance is correct when the washer moves easily by hand.
What are the essential safety precautions?
Always wear goggles, hearing protection, gloves, and safety shoes. Do not work in the rain or on a ladder. Hold the device with both hands and keep people at least 15 m away.
How to store the hedge trimmer for a long period?
Empty the fuel tank, clean the device, oil the moving parts, attach the blade guard, and store it in a dry place, out of reach of children.
What to do if the blade continues to rotate at idle?
Adjust the idle speed adjustment screw: turn clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease. If the problem persists, contact after-sales service.
What are the signs of a defective spark plug?
Starting difficulties, engine stalling or irregular operation. Check the electrode gap (0.6-0.7 mm) and replace the spark plug if it is fouled or damaged.
How to lubricate the hedge trimmer gear?
Every 10 to 20 hours of operation, place a grease gun on the grease nipple and inject a little standard gear grease.

Before first use

IKRA IBHS 62 - Before first use - 1

The hedge trimmer is supplied without fuel mixture. Fill up the tool as described under „Filling with fuel“.

Filling with fuel

IKRA IBHS 62 - Filling with fuel - 1

The tool is operated with a 1:40 mixture of normal petrol (lead-free) and two-stroke engine oil.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Filling with fuel - 2

When handling petrol, increased attention is called for. Avoid smoking and naked flames due to the risk of explosion.

Petrol:

Octane rating at least 91 ROZ, lead-free

  • Do not fill with leaded petrol, diesel or other non-approved fuels.
  • Do not use petrol with an octane rating less than 91 ROZ. This can damage the motor, due to increased motor temperatures.
  • If you are continuously working in the higher rev range, use petrol with a higher octane rating.
  • The use of lead-free petrol is recommended for environmental protection reasons. The use of E10 fuels is not permitted.

Two-stroke engine oil

• According to specification JASO FC or ISO-L-EGC

IKRA IBHS 62 - Two-stroke engine oil - 1

Do not use any four or two-stroke oils for water-cooled outboard motors, or premixed products from petrol stations.

Mixing

Mixing ratio 40:1

PetrolTwo-stroke engine oil (40:1)PetrolTwo-stroke engine oil (40:1)
1 | 25 ml5 | 125 ml
2 | 50 ml10 | 250 ml
  • Make sure that you measure the amount of oil precisely, as a slight difference in a small quantity of oil can have a significant impact on the mixing ratio.
  • Do not alter the mixing ratio, as this will produce more residue from combustion, increase fuel consumption, and reduce performance, or the motor may be damaged.

Mix the petrol and the oil in a clean container which is approved and labelled for fuel, and which is equipped with an overflow protection device.

  1. First pour in half of the petrol required for the mixture.
  2. Then add the full amount of the oil.
  3. Shake up the mixture.
  4. Then pour in the rest of the petrol.

Fuel can only be kept for a limited period, as it ages. Fuel and fuel mixtures which have been stored for too long can cause problems when starting the tool. You should therefore only mix an amount of fuel which you can use up in a month.

Fuels may only be stored in containers which are approved and labelled for this purpose, in a dry and safe place.

Make sure that fuel containers are stored in a place where they will not be accessible to children.

Filling up the hedge trimmer

IKRA IBHS 62 - Filling up the hedge trimmer - 1

  • Switch off the motor and allow the tool to cool down!
  • Wear protective gloves!
  • Avoid contact with the skin or eyes (wear safety glasses)!
  • Pay strict attention to the section „Handling fuel“.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Filling up the hedge trimmer - 2

text_image 23 10 114 m
  1. Only fill up the hedge trimmer outdoors or in areas with adequate ventilation.
  2. Clean the area to be used for filling. Dirt in the tank leads to malfunctions.

See a doctor if you experience swelling of the fingers, feel unwell, or have no sensation in your fingers.

Working with the hedge trimmer

IKRA IBHS 62 - Working with the hedge trimmer - 1

Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands, at a safe distance from the body.

  • The maximum cutting diameter is dependent upon the type of wood, its age, and the dampness and hardness of the wood.
  • You should therefore trim very thick branches to the appropriate length with pruning shears, before trimming the hedge.
  • Thanks to its double-sided blade, the hedge trimmer can be moved forwards or backwards as well as from one side to the other in a swinging motion.

GB | Operating instructions

  • Trim the face of the hedge first, and only then trim the top.
  • Trim the hedge from bottom to top.
  • Cut the hedge in a trapezoidal shape, which prevents it from becoming bare close to the ground from the lack of light.
  • Stretch a guide along the length of the hedge, if you wish to trim the top to an even length.
  • If the hedge needs to be cut back severely, cut it in several passes.
  • Appropriate times for trimming:

  • Deciduous hedges: June and October

  • Coniferous hedges: April and August
  • Rapidly-growing hedges: from May, roughly every 6 weeks

- Pay attention to birds breeding in the hedge. If this is the case, postpone trimming of the hedge or leave out this area.

IKRA IBHS 62 - GB | Operating instructions - 1

Pay attention to the safety instructions in all circumstances.

Maintenance and care

IKRA IBHS 62 - Maintenance and care - 1

Due to the risk of fire, do not carry out maintenance work in the vicinity of naked flames.

Maintenance and cleaning work which is not described in this chapter may only be performed by the customer service department.

Safety devices which were removed for maintenance and cleaning must be properly inspected and reattached before continuing use.

Only use original parts. Other parts can result in unforeseen damage, or represent a risk to the user.

Maintenance

IKRA IBHS 62 - Maintenance - 1

Wear gloves, in order to avoid injuries.

In order to ensure long and reliable use of the hedge trimmer, perform the following maintenance tasks on a regular basis.

Check the hedge trimmer for obvious defects, such as:

  • loose fasteners
  • worn or damaged components
  • cutter damaged, broken or bent
  • petrol cap and fuel lines not leak-tight

Inspect the hedge trimmer after each use for wear, and particularly the sliding clearance of the cutter.

- Protective devices or covers properly installed and intact.

Perform necessary repairs or maintenance work before using the hedge trimmer.

Adjusting the cutter

Adjust the sliding clearance if the cut material jams between the blades or if the clearance has increased due to normal wear on the cutter after extended use.

In order to achieve good cutting results, the sliding clearance between the blades and the „sword“ must be properly adjusted.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Adjusting the cutter - 1

text_image A B (underside)

To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. Undo the nuts (A) on the top of the cutter.
  2. Tighten the bolts (B) on the underside slightly (it may be necessary to undo them slightly first).
  3. Turn back the bolt between one quarter and one half rotation anticlockwise.
  4. Counter the bolt with the screwdriver and tighten the nuts.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Adjusting the cutter - 2

The sliding clearance is then properly adjusted if the washer under the bolt head can still be moved back and forth slightly by hand.

  1. Lubricate the cutter with environmentally-compatible lubricating oil.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Adjusting the cutter - 3

Too low a sliding clearance results in excessive heat development, and consequently to damage to the tool.

Lubricating the gearbox

Lubricate the gearbox every 10 to 20 operating hours.

  1. Apply the grease gun to the lubricating nipple (24).
  2. Press a little grease into the nipple.

Use commercially available gear grease.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Lubricating the gearbox - 1

natural_image Close-up of a mechanical assembly with a coiled spring and numbered component (24), no visible text or symbols.

Setting the idling speed

If the cutter continued running during idling, the idling speed must be corrected.

GB | Operating instructions

  1. Allow the motor to warm up for 3–5 minutes (low speeds!).

  2. Turn the adjustment screw (C): Clockwise idling speed is increased (+) Anticlockwise idling speed is reduced (−)

IKRA IBHS 62 - GB | Operating instructions - 1

natural_image Close-up of a mechanical component with labeled parts (no readable text or symbols)

Contact the manufacturer if the cutter continues running despite being at idling speed.

In such a case, do not continue to work with the hedge trimmer!

Cleaning or replacing the air filter

Clean the air filter regularly of dust and dirt, in order to prevent:

  • loss of performance
  • difficulties starting the tool
  • excessive fuel consumption.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Cleaning or replacing the air filter - 1

text_image 21 22

Clean the air filter about every 8 operating hours, or even more often in particularly dusty conditions.

  1. Set the start lever (choke) (21) to so that no dirt gets into the carburettor.
  2. Remove the air filter cover (19).
  3. Remove the air filter (22) from the foam.
  4. Wash out the air filter in lukewarm, soapy water.

Do not blow out the dirt, there is a risk of injuries to the eyes!

  1. Clean inside the air filter with a paintbrush.

  2. Allow the air filter to dry out properly and reinsert it.

  3. Refit the air filter cover.

Change the air filter regularly.

If the air filter is damaged, it must be replaced before starting work.

Cleaning or replacing the petrol filter

Check the petrol filter (9) as necessary. A dirty petrol filter hinders the supply of fuel.

Open the petrol cap (10) and pull the petrol filter through the opening with a wire hook.

  • Light dirt - pull out the petrol filter from the fuel line and clean the filter in naphtha
  • Heavy dirt - replace the petrol filter

Changing or inspecting the spark plug

Do not touch the spark plug (18) or the spark plug connector (17) while the motor is running. High voltage! Risk of burning when the motor is hot. Wear protective gloves!

Check the spark plug and the separation of the electrodes regularly. To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. Pull the spark plug connector out of the spark plug.
  2. Unscrew the spark plug with the supplied spark plug Allen key.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Changing or inspecting the spark plug - 1

text_image 0,6 - 0,7 mm LWA 114

The separation between the electrodes should be between 0.6 and 0.7 mm.

Clean the spark plug if it is dirty.

Replace the spark plug:

  • if the insulating body is damaged
  • if there is significant loss of material on the electrodes
  • if the electrodes become very dirty or heavily soiled with oil
  • each month if the tool is used regularly

Inspecting the spark plug

  1. Pull the spark plug connector out of the spark plug.
  2. Unscrew the spark plug with the supplied spark plug Allen key.
  3. Firmly attach the spark plug connector.
  4. Push the spark plug against the motor housing with isolated pliers (not in the vicinity of the spark plug hole).
  5. Move the ON/OFF switch to the „START“ position.
  6. Sharply pull the start cord on the starter handle.

If it is working properly, a spark should be visible between the electrodes.

GB | Operating instructions

Silencer/exhaust opening

IKRA IBHS 62 - Silencer/exhaust opening - 1

Do not retighten the screws on the silencer if the motor is hot.

  1. Check on a regularly basis that the screws (D) in the silencer (7) have not come undone. If they are loose, tighten them hand tight.

  2. Clean the exhaust opening (E) regularly.

Care

Clean the hedge trimmer carefully after every use, so that it continues to work properly.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Care - 1

Wear protective gloves when cleaning the cutter!

- Clean the housing with a soft brush or a dry cloth.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Care - 2

Water, solvent and polish may not be used.

• Make sure that the ventilation slots for cooling the motor remain unobstructed (risk of overheating).

- Clean the cutter regularly with a cloth or brush.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Care - 3

Do not clean the cutter with water, due to the risk of corrosion.

- Clean and oil all moving parts on a regular basis.

IKRA IBHS 62 - Care - 4

Do not use grease for this purpose! Use environmentally compatible oil.
