4.2.1. Safety instructions for outdoor seasoning

If you want to carry out the burning-in process outdoors, safety is the highest priority:

Choose a well-ventilated outdoor area that is not near flammable materials or structures. Avoid excessively windy areas to prevent the fire from getting out of control.

  • Make sure the surface where you place the Griddle and Fire Bowl stand is stable and fireproof.
  • Always keep a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, or other suitable extinguishing agent nearby in case something goes wrong.

During the burning-in process, keep a distance from the Griddle and Fire Bowl and ensure no children or animals are nearby.

  • Wear heat-resistant gloves and, if necessary, an apron to protect yourself from hot splashes.
  • Be cautious when handling hot oil and avoid splattering or spilling.

4.2.2 Seasoning instructions

1. Clean the grill surface thoroughly with hot water.

3. Apply a thin layer of heat-resistant oil and heat the Griddle and Fire Bowl to a high temperature

4. Leave the Griddle and Fire Bowl at the temperature for 30-60 minutes to allow the oil to soak into

5. Leave the Griddle and Fire Bowl to cool slowly and repeat the process if necessary.

WARNING! Risk of burns! To avoid the risk of burns, do not touch the hot bowl until it has cooled down completely. NOTE! To achieve an even, non-sticky patina, make sure that only a thin layer of oil remains on the product. If in doubt, remove excess oil and seasoning the barbecue and fire bowl again.15

4.3 Lighting technique

The kindling can be paper or special kindling compliant with EN 1860-3, e.g. waxed wood wool. Fuel on the Griddle and Fire Bowl is usually arranged cross- wise. We also recommend the traditional campfire layout for the bottom-to-top ignition technique. Placement and setting fire to the kindling occurs in the lower part of the fuel. The lower layers of fuel are small pieces of kindling. Above the kindling are larger pieces of firewood.

5. Cleaning and care

The following tips will keep your Griddle and Fire Bowl looking good and ready for use for longer:

  • Clean after every barbecue: Remove food residues with a soft brush or wooden spatula and rinse the bowl with warm water. Avoid chemical cleaners or abrasive cleaners.
  • Don't forget to dry: Dry the bowl thoroughly immediately to prevent rust from forming.
  • Oil regularly: After cleaning, rub the surface with a little heat-resistant vegetable oil. This protects the bowl from corrosion and preserves the surface.
  • Store correctly: Make sure that the bowl is stored in a dry place, ideally with a cover if it is outside.

6. Disposal instructions

Dispose of the materials separately according to your local disposal regulations. Never dispose of hot ash in household waste! We will be happy to help you with any questions or problems. You can reach our customer service team by email at: service@petromax.de16
