How to get stronger coffee with my Petromax per-9-s percolator?

Let it boil for at least 12 minutes after the boiling point and use about 8 to 9 teaspoons of coarsely ground coffee, up to below the upper end of the water riser tube.

Why doesn't the water boil in my percolator?

Check that the water level reaches the required minimum amount (0.7 L for the per-9-s model). If the level is too low, the water will not boil properly.

What to do if my coffee overflows from the percolator?

Do not exceed the maximum capacity of 1.3 L. Reduce the amount of water and coffee to avoid overflow.

How to know when the water has reached the boiling point?

You will distinctly hear the water boiling. Make sure the lid is tightly closed, as very hot water can spurt from the riser tube.

Can I use my per-9-s percolator on an induction cooktop?

Yes, the enamel per-9-s model is compatible with all types of stoves, including induction and ceramic glass. Only the stainless steel models le14 and le28 have restrictions.

What is the minimum and maximum capacity of the per-9-s?

The minimum capacity is 0.7 liters and the maximum capacity is 1.3 liters. Respect these levels for optimal operation.

How to clean my Petromax percolator?

Wash all parts with clear water and a mild dish soap before first use and after each use. Dry the inside and outside thoroughly with a clean cloth.

Can I make tea with the percolator?

Yes, the percolator is designed for coffee and tea. Put loose tea or tea bags in the filter and follow the same percolation process.

What to do if the lid lifts or falls off when pouring?

Make sure to replace the lid with the spout facing the handle (for enamel models). This allows safe pouring without the risk of the lid falling off.

Important instructions

Before using the Perkomax for the first time, read the following information carefully. Follow the safety instructions and keep this user manual for future reference.

First use and cleaning

After each use and before the first use, wash the Percolator and all its parts thoroughly with water with a mild detergent. Dry thoroughly inside and outside with a clean and dry cloth.

Percolation process and preparation

The Petromax percolators operate according to the percolator principle: Water is heated. The resulting pressure presses the water upwards through the tube where it passes through the sieve and drips onto the coffee powder. Below it once again mixes with the remainder of the water. The more often this process is repeated the more intensive the taste of the coffee becomes. We recommend a brewing time of 12-15 minutes. The percolator can be used for camping, outdoor and garden activities but also on the stove at home.

Only use coarsely ground coffee or coarse, loose tea to ensure the efficiency of the percolation process.

1. Add the desired amount of drinking water. Please note the minimum and maximum filling level. At too low filling level the water will not boil, at too high filling level it will boil over. Caution! The water must not come into contact with the basket.
2. Fill the basket with the desired amount of coarsely ground coffee or tea. Close the lid. The nose of the lid should be on the same side as the handle (Percolator black & white.)
3. Place the Percolator onto a flat heating surface or place/hang it over the campfire. Boil the water.
4. Optimal boiling period: approx. 12-15 minutes

• Please note that the Percolator and all its parts become very hot during use. Only use it with a cloth or heat-resistant gloves.
• Caution! Children and animals should never be allowed near the Percolator.
• Never remove the lid during the brewing process as boiling water is spurting from the tube.

• Maintain a safe distance to flammable and heat-sensitive objects and materials.
• Always wear appropriate clothing.
• Set down hot cookware on heat-resistant surfaces only.

The Percolator is suitable for camping, outdoor and garden activities or for the stove.

Caution! The Stainless Steel le14 | le28 is not suitable for induction stove and ceramic hob.

Petromax offers the Percolator made of stainless steel in two different sizes. Thus, you can choose the one that suits your needs best. The sturdy handle makes it easy to hang. Thanks to a glass knob in the lid you can watch your beverage boil. The glass knob is also available as a spare part.

Enamel Perkomax black | white

The enamel Perkomax is available in black and white. Thanks to the sturdy enamel the percolator is suitable for outdoor use as well as on all types of stoves. The tilt protection (nose of the lid) provides for safe pouring.

Problem Solution
The lid is falling while pouring. (Enamel Perkomax)	Please make sure, that the nose of the lid is on the same side as the handle.
The water is not boiling.	Please note the minimum filling level of the respective Percolator (see table.)
My coffee is not strong enough.	1. The boiling time should be at least 12 min.2. Please add an adequate quantity of coffee to the basket (ca. 8-9 tsp), maximum level just below the upper end of the tube in the basket.
My coffee/tea is boiling over.	Please note that the maximum filling level of the respective Percolator (see table.)
How do I know, that my coffee/tea is boiling?	As soon as the water is boiling, you will hear the sound very clearly. You must not remove the lid during the boiling process as very hot water flows out of the tube.

Warranty

Under proper use, a warranty period of two years will apply to your Petromax Perkomax from the date of purchase. This does not cover wear parts. If you cannot use your Petromax Percolator properly due to a defect in material or workmanship, you are entitled to a warranty repair. Contact your retailer for that purpose.
