English Safety Instructions General Power Tool Safety Warnings WARNING Read all safety warnings, instruc- tions, illustrations and specifica- tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all in- structions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/ or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains- operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cord- less) power tool. Work area safety u Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. u Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. u Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical safety u Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. u Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded sur- faces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerat- ors. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. 1 609 92A 6V3 | (09.09.2022) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 13 u Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of elec- tric shock. u Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carry- ing, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. u When operating a power tool outdoors, use an exten- sion cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suit- able for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. u If operating a power tool in a damp location is un- avoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protec- ted supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety u Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inatten- tion while operating power tools may result in serious per- sonal injury. u Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal in- juries. u Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or en- ergising power tools that have the switch on invites acci- dents. u Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal in- jury. u Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. u Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jew- ellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. u If devices are provided for the connection of dust ex- traction and collection facilities, ensure these are con- nected and properly used. Use of dust collection can re- duce dust-related hazards. u Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe in- jury within a fraction of a second. Power tool use and care u Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was de- signed. u Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. u Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or re- move the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing ac- cessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. u Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. u Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for mis- alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. u Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main- tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. u Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into ac- count the working conditions and the work to be per- formed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. u Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations. Battery tool use and care u Recharge only with the charger specified by the manu- facturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of bat- tery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. u Use power tools only with specifically designated bat- tery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. u When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. u Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally oc- curs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, addi- tionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the bat- tery may cause irritation or burns. u Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury. Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 6V3 | (09.09.2022)14 | English u Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excess- ive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C may cause explosion. u Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. Service u Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. u Never service damaged battery packs. Service of bat- tery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers. Tacker safety warnings u Always assume that the tool contains fasteners. Care- less handling of the tacker can result in unexpected firing of fasteners and personal injury. u Do not point the tool towards yourself or anyone nearby. Unexpected triggering will discharge the fastener causing an injury. u Do not actuate the tool unless the tool is placed firmly against the workpiece. If the tool is not in contact with the workpiece, the fastener may be deflected away from your target. u Disconnect the tool from the power source when the fastener jams in the tool. While removing a jammed fastener, the tacker may be accidentally activated if it is plugged in. u Use caution while removing a jammed fastener. The mechanism may be under compression and the fastener may be forcefully discharged while attempting to free a jammed condition. u Do not use this tacker for fastening electrical cables. It is not designed for electric cable installation and may damage the insulation of electric cables thereby causing electric shock or fire hazards. u Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hid- den supply lines or contact the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric cables can cause fire and electric shock. Damaging gas lines can lead to ex- plosion. Breaking water pipes causes property damage. u In case of damage and improper use of the battery, va- pours may be emitted. The battery can set alight or ex- plode. Ensure the area is well ventilated and seek medical attention should you experience any adverse effects. The vapours may irritate the respiratory system. u Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuit- ing. u The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit may occur, causing the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat. u Only use the battery with products from the manufac- turer. This is the only way in which you can protect the battery against dangerous overload. Protect the battery against heat, e.g. against continuous intense sunlight, fire, dirt, water and moisture. There is a risk of explosion and short-circuiting. Product Description and Specifications Read all the safety and general instructions. Typically, the A-weighted noise level of the power tool is: Sound pressure level84dB(A); sound power level95dB(A). Uncertainty K=3dB. Wear hearing protection! Vibration total values a
(triax vector sum) and uncertainty K determined according to EN60745-2‑16:
The vibration level given in these instructions has been measured in accordance with a standardised measuring pro- cedure and may be used to compare power tools. It can also be used for a preliminary estimation of exposure to vibra- tion. The stated vibration level applies to the main applications of the power tool. However, if the power tool is used for differ- ent applications, with different application tools or poorly maintained, the vibration level may differ. This can signific- antly increase the exposure to vibration over the total work- ing period. To estimate the exposure to vibration accurately, the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not ac- tually being used should also be taken into account. This can significantly reduce the exposure to vibration over the total working period. Implement additional safety measures to protect the oper- ator from the effects of vibration, such as servicing the power tool and application tools, keeping the hands warm, and organising workflows correctly. Rechargeable battery Bosch sells some cordless power tools without a re- chargeable battery. You can tell whether a rechargeable bat- tery is included with the power tool by looking at the pack- aging. Charging the battery u Use only the chargers listed in the technical data. Only these chargers are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your power tool. Note: Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are supplied par- tially charged according to international transport regula- tions. To ensure full rechargeable battery capacity, fully charge the rechargeable battery before using your tool for the first time. Inserting the Battery Push the charged battery into the battery holder until it clicks into place. Removing the Battery To remove the rechargeable battery, press the battery re- lease button and pull the battery out. Do not use force to do this. Battery charge indicator The battery charge indicator indicates the remaining battery capacity or an overload for a few seconds when the power tool is switched on. The battery charge indicator indicates the state of charge for a few seconds when the on/off switch is half or fully pressed. LED Capacity 3×continuous green light 75–100% 2×continuous green light 40–75% 1×continuous green light 15–40% 1×slowly flashing green light 0–15% If the battery charge indicator flashes red, the power tool is overloaded. The three LEDs in the battery charge indicator flash quickly when the temperature of the rechargeable battery is outside the operating temperature range and/or the overload protec- tion has been triggered. Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery Protect the battery against moisture and water. Only store the battery within a temperature range of −20 to 50°C. Do not leave the battery in your car in the summer, for example. A significantly reduced operating time after charging indic- ates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced. Bosch Power Tools 1 609 92A 6V3 | (09.09.2022)16 | English Follow the instructions on correct disposal. Assembly Loading the Magazine (seefiguresA1–A2) u Use only original Bosch accessories. The precision parts of the tacker, such as the magazine, striker and shot duct, are matched toBosch staples and nails. Other man- ufacturers use different steel grades and sizes. The viewing window of the refill indicator(11) indicates whether there are any remaining staples or nails in the magazine. – Turn the power tool around. – Press the magazine release(8) and pull the magazine(9) out of the back of the tool at the same time. – Insert the staple strip(14) or nail strip(15). When inserting the nail strip(15), hold the tacker slightly at an angle so that the nails lie flat on the side wall. Note the marking. – Slide the magazine(9) back in until it clicks into place. u Do not use force when opening, loading or closing the magazine. Operation Starting Operation The trigger lock, which is connected to the movable tacker head(1), prevents the unintended release of a staple when the trigger(2) is pressed accidentally. Switching On and Off (Single Actuation) – First, firmly place the tacker head(1) against the work- piece until it is fully pushed in. – Maintain the contact pressure and press the trigger(2). – Once the staple has been completely driven in, release the trigger (2) and lift the tacker head (1) from the work- piece. Switching On and Off (Contact Actuation) – Press and hold the trigger(2) to work more quickly. Press the tacker head(1) firmly onto the workpiece until the staple is released. Move the tacker to the next posi- tion and press the tacker head(1) firmly onto the work- piece once more. Preselecting the Impact Force Note: Always test the selected impact force on a spare piece of material first. The optimal impact force setting can only be achieved through practice. The figures in the table below are recommended values. Various settings for the required impact force can be preselected with the thumbwheel(4) for impact force preselection. When doing this, comply with the mark for preselection of impact force(3) on the power tool. The impact force required depends on the length of the staples or nails and the strength of the material. Setting Range for Thumbwheel 6 8 10 12 14 mm 14 mm Substrate Softwood (pine) 1–4 4 Hardwood (beech) 5–8 8 Chipboard 3–8 5 Wood core ply- wood 3–8 6 Practical Advice u 19mm staples cannot be used with this power tool. Therefore you should not use the power tool to attach ceiling panels with claws for fastening wooden pro- files or joints. Avoid pulling the trigger when the magazine is empty to min- imise wear on the firing pin. When work is complete, set the impact force on the thumb- wheel for impact force preselection(4) to relieve strain on the tension spring. Carefully set the tacker head (1) down on the material. Soft workpieces (e.g. pine wood) could be damaged if you press down too hard. The power tool is designed for short-term use with a max- imum operation time of 10minutes of constant use. It heats up in continuous operation. Performance reduces as the temperature increases. Switch the power tool off after a maximum of 10minutes op- erating time and allow it to cool down. Removing Jammed Staples u Remove the battery from the power tool before carry- ing out any work on the power tool. – Turn the power tool around. – Press the magazine release(8) and pull the magazine(9) out of the back of the tool at the same time. – Remove the jammed staple. Use a pair of pliers for this, if required. – Slide the magazine(9) back in until it clicks into place. u Fill the magazine in good time. A staple strip that is too short may be the cause of jammed staples. Accessories for tacking paper and for tacking at equal distances With a specific accessory, the power tool can be used for tacking paper and for tacking at equal distances from the 1 609 92A 6V3 | (09.09.2022) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 17 material edge. The accessory is only suitable for the UniversalTacker 18V-14. – With the paper tacker(13), you can tack together up to 80sheets. – With the spacer(13), you can set an equal distance of 1cm to 11cm between the fastener and the material edge using six settings. Note: To load the magazine(9), you have to remove the pa- per tacker/spacer(13) from the power tool. Tacking Paper (seefiguresB1–B2) Note: Tacker staples are stronger than standard staples and are therefore more difficult to remove from the paper. Recommended staple length Number of sheets (80 g/m
