Attention: When releasing the motor brake lever, it must return to the starting position causing the motor to stop. If this is not the case, the device must not be used.
1. Move the main switch into the “ON” position (Fig.
14/ item a) and then open the petrol valve (item c). To do this, set the valve to “ON”.
2. Set the choke lever (Fig. 14/ Item b) to the “Choke”
position. Note: The choke is not normally required when restarting a warm motor.
3. Actuate the motor brake lever (Fig. 13) and rm-
ly pull the start pull cord (Item 14) until the motor starts.
4. Allow the motor to warm up for a short time and
then set the choke lever (Fig 14 Item b) to the “RUN” position.
5. Move the transport lever (3) into the working po-
sition Attention: Always slowly pull out the start pull cord until you feel the rst resistance before pulling it out quickly to start. Do not allow the start pull cord to ing back after starting has been completed Attention: Do not start the motor if the transport lever (3) is in the working position! Attention: The scarifying roller rotates when the motor is started. Attention! Never open the discharge ap when the motor is still running. The rotating roller may lead to injuries. Always carefully secure the discharge ap. It is folded back into the “closed” position by the tension spring! The safety distance between the housing and the user given by the guide rails must always be maintained. Special care must be taken when working and chang- ing direction on embankments and slopes. Make sure you have a secure footing, wear shoes with non-slip, well gripping soles and long trousers. Always work across slopes. For safety reasons, slopes with an inclination of more than 15 degrees must not be scaried with the device. Exercise particular caution when moving backwards and pulling the device, risk of tripping! Speed adjustment (g. 1) The speed can be adjusted using the throttle lever (15). We recommend working at high speed. Installing the catch basket (Fig. 10 - 11)
- Lift the discharge ap (Fig. 11/Item. 7) with one hand and hook the catch basket (Fig. 11/ Item
6) into the handle at the top with the other hand.
Attention! The motor must be switched off and the roller must not rotate when attaching the catch bas- ket! Setting the scarifying depth (Fig. 12) The scarifying depth is set using the depth adjustment (11). To do this, gently pull the depth adjustment (11) to the left or the right to set the required position. The height can be adjusted innitely from 0 mm to -15 mm. If the transport lever (3) is in the transport position, the blades do not touch the ground. m ATTENTION: Move the transport lever (3) (Fig. 12) into the transport position in order to make the roller non-contacting. Only move the scarier in the trans- port position when not scarifying/aerating. Adjusting the aerator roller depth In order to guarantee faultless operation and avoid damage to the aerator roller, only use the aerator roller with the depth setting “O”. Change the roller (Fig. 19 - 23) ATTENTION! Be sure to wear gloves! Remove the hexagonal screws and the retainer plate. Lift the roller at this end. Pull the roller in the direction of the arrow, out of the drive square. Slide the new roller in the direction of the arrow back into the drive square and then press it into the brack- et. Use the hexagonal screws to fasten the roller back onto the housing.
m Attention! The engine does not come with oil in it. Therefore, ensure that you add oil before starting it up. The oil level in the motor must be checked before any work is undertaken. Starting the device In order to avoid unintentional starting of the motor, it is equipped with a motor brake (Fig. 1/ Item 1), which must always be actuated during operation, since other- wise the motor will stop.www.scheppach.com
Attention! The roller continues to rotate for a few sec- onds after the motor is switched off. Never try to stop the roller. If the moving roller hits an object, switch off the device and wait until the roller comes to a complete stop. Then check the condition of the roller. If dam- aged, it must be replaced.
10. Maintenance and cleaning
- Keep protective devices, air vents and the motor housing as free of dust and dirt as possible. Rub the device clean with a clean cloth or blow it off with compressed air at low pressure.
- We recommend that you clean the device directly after every use.
- Clean the device at regular intervals using a damp cloth and a little soft soap. Do not use any cleaning products or solvents; they could attack the plastic parts of the device. Make sure that no water can penetrate the device interior.
- In order to reduce the risk of re, keep the engine, exhaust, battery box and the area surrounding the fuel tank free of grass, straw, moss, leaves or es- caping grease. Maintenance
- A worn or damaged cutting roller should be replaced by an authorised specialist
- Ensure that all fastening elements (bolts, nuts, etc.) are always tightened so that it is safe to work with the scarier.
- Store your scarier in a dry space.
- All screwed parts as well as the wheels and axles should be cleaned and then oiled to ensure a long service life.
- Regular maintenance of the scarier will not only en- sure its durability and performance, but will also help to scarify your lawn carefully and easily.
- Perform a general check of the scarier at the end of the season and remove all accumulated debris. Al- ways check the condition of the scarier prior to the start of the season. Contact our customer service centre for repairs.
- Check the catcher regularly for wear or damaged parts.
- Check the machine regularly and replace worn out or damaged parts for safety reasons.
- If the fuel tank has to be drained, you must do this outdoors. Store the drained fuel in a special contain- er for fuel or dispose of it with due care. Scarifying When scarifying, the grass surface and the grass seam are scratched using the scarifying blade. This removes moss, mulch and weeds, and cuts the ne roots on the top. Therefore, air, light, water ant nutri- ents reach the grass root better, resulting in the grass growing better and thicker. Furthermore, cutting the ne roots encourages grass growth. This promotes grass durability. Scarifying should be performed a maximum of twice per year. Ideally in April/May and/or September/October. Fertilise and water the grass surface after scarifying in order to obtain an even better result. Aerating When aerating, the aerator roller removes surface mulch and moss, and “dethatches” the grass. There- fore, air, light, water ant nutrients reach the grass root better, resulting in the grass growing better and thick- er. Aerating is gentler on the grass than scarifying but not as effective. The grass may be aerated several times per year (around every 4 weeks). Advice on how to work properly An overlapping working method is recommended when working. Guide the device in as straight a path as pos- sible to obtain a clean result. These paths should al- ways overlap by a few centimetres so that there are no streaks left. First scarify lengthways and then width- ways in order to obtain a chessboard pattern. As soon as grass cuttings are left lying behind on the ground during working, the catch basket must be emptied. Attention! Before removing the catch basket, switch off the motor and wait for the roller to come to a standstill! Re-sow sections without grass or with little grass after scarifying. In order to unhook the catch basket, lift the discharge ap using one hand and remove the catch bag with the other hand! It depends on the grass growth of the lawn and the hardness of the soil as to how often the lawn should be worked. Keep the underside of the device clean and remove any earth and grass deposits. Deposits impede the start- up process and impair the quality. On slopes, the path should be made perpendicular to the slope. Switch off the motor before carrying out any checks on the roller.www.scheppach.com
m WARNING: Never store the machine with petrol in the tank inside a building in which fuel vapours may come into contact with na- ked ames or sparks!

The device and its accessories are made of different materials, such as metals and plas- tics. Take defective components to special waste dis- posal sites. Check with your specialist dealer or munic- ipal administration! Maintenance of the air lter Fouled air lters diminish the engine output due to re- duced air supply to the carburettor. Regular inspection is therefore essential. The air lter should be checked every 50 operating hours and cleaned as required. The air lter must be checked more often in case of very dusty air.
- Dismount the air lter as shown in Fig. 15 + 16.
- Clean the air lter with compressed air or simply by knocking out any soiling.
- The re-assembly takes place in reverse order Attention: Never clean the air lter with petrol or am- mable solvents. Spark plug maintenance/change Check the spark plug for dirt and grime after 10 op- erating hours and if necessary, clean it with a copper wire brush. Then service the spark plug every 50 op- erating hours.
