Frequently Asked Questions - BBQGasCheck Laserliner

How to install the battery for the BBQGasCheck?
Open the battery compartment on the back of the device and insert a 9V block battery, respecting polarity. The device is immediately operational.
How to use the scanner to detect gas level?
Place the measuring head vertically on the cylindrical surface of the cylinder, applying a pressure of about 5 kg. Keep the device still during measurement. The blue LED indicates measurement in progress. The result is shown by a red LED (empty) or green LED (gas present).
What types of gas cylinders are compatible?
The BBQGasCheck is compatible with liquefied gas (LPG) cylinders made of steel and aluminum with a diameter of 200 mm to 350 mm. It is not suitable for plastic cylinders.
Why is the measurement not working?
Check that the cylinder surface is clean, free of dirt, rust, stickers, or damage. Make sure the cylinder is vertical. Avoid weld seams and areas near the ends. If the problem persists, replace the battery.
What does the flashing of the bottom red LED mean?
The flashing bottom red LED indicates a low battery. Replace it with a new 9V battery to ensure reliable measurements.
Can the device be used on plastic gas cylinders?
No, the measuring instrument cannot be used on plastic gas cylinders. It is designed only for steel and aluminum cylinders.
How to maintain the scanner?
Clean the components with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents, scouring pads, or solvents. Remove the battery during prolonged storage. Store the device in a dry, clean place.
What are the optimal operating conditions?
Use the device at a temperature between 0°C and 40°C, with a maximum relative humidity of 75% rH (non-condensing). The operating altitude must not exceed 2000 m above sea level.
Does the device turn off automatically?
Yes, the device turns off automatically after 2 seconds of inactivity to save battery. It turns on automatically upon next use.
Where to find additional safety information?

General safety instructions

  • The device must only be used in accordance with its intended purpose and within the scope of the specifications.
    – The measuring tools and accessories are not toys.

Keep out of reach of children.

– The structure of the device must not be modified in any way.
- Do not expose the device to mechanical stress, extreme temperatures, moisture or significant vibration.
- Do not use the device in environments containing explosive gases or vapour.

Safety instructions

Dealing with electromagnetic radiation

  • The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limit values in accordance with EMC-Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • Local operating restrictions – for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers – may apply. There is a possibility of a dangerous impact on – or interference with – electronic devices.
Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazards or interference.

Information on gas cylinders

  • The measuring surface and the surface to be measured of the gas cylinder must be free of dirt, damage, stickers and rust.
  • Observe the safety regulations for handling propane/ butane gas cylinders.
  • The measurement is not a substitute for correct residual gas disposal.

1 Insert battery

Open the battery compartment on the housing's rear side and insert a 9V battery. Correct polarity must be observed.

The device is ready for use immediately once the batteries have been inserted. It does not have a separate ON/OFF switch and is therefore always active.

Notes on measurement

  • Depending on the propane/butane mix ratio and the temperature, steel and aluminium gas cylinders are normally filled up to 80% .
  • The measuring device is not suitable for use on plastic gas bottles.
  • The measurement can be adversely affected by dirt on the measuring head and gas cylinder. The measuring surfaces should therefore be cleaned with a damp cloth.
    – Possible influencing factors on gas cylinders include:

  • Rust (also invisible areas on the inside)

  • Uneven/excessively thick coating on the outer wall

  • Ice build-up on the surface

  • Dented or scratches surfaces

  • Radii of upper and lower ends of gas cylinders too small To avoid these factors, the measurement should be carried out at several points in the cleaned central area of the gas cylinder.

  • To avoid sloping liquid levels, the gas cylinder should be as upright as possible during the measurement.

  • To determine the level as fast as possible it is recommended to start the measurement from the bottom.
  • The exact level is at the point between the signals „Gas“ and „No Gas“.
    – Measurement is not possible on welded seams.
  • To avoid damage, do not push the measuring head over the surface.

2 To measure the level
90° 5 kg 90°90° 5 kg

Place the measuring head vertically on the surface of the cylinder and press down applying approx. 5 kg of pressure.

A blue LED light sequence signals measurement is in progress. Hold the scanner steady and pressed against the cylinder.

A red LED (no level) or a green LED (level found) signals the finished measurement.

The device switches off automatically if left idle for 2 seconds.
