What types of batteries can I charge with this charger?

This charger is compatible with Li-Ion batteries (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells) and NiCd (12 V 1.7 Ah, 10 cells) for the ASC 55 model. Use only original Metabo or CAS batteries.

How do I know if the battery is fully charged?

The control indicator (3) lights up steady when charging is complete. The charger automatically switches to maintenance mode to keep the battery ready for use.

What should I do if the warning indicator flashes?

A flashing warning indicator (4) indicates a defective or incorrectly inserted battery. Remove the battery immediately and check its condition. For the ASC 290, this may also mean the charger is overheating.

Can I charge a smartphone with this charger?

Yes, only on the ASC 290 model. Open the cover (6) and connect your USB device with a suitable cable to the USB-C port (7). USB charging starts automatically after the battery is fully charged.

What is the typical charging time?

The charging time (t) depends on the capacity and state of the battery. Refer to the technical specifications table on page 3 of the manual for indicative values.

Can the charger remain plugged in permanently?

Yes, the charger switches to maintenance mode once charging is complete, allowing the battery to remain in place without risk of overcharging.

What safety precautions should I observe?

Read the entire manual. Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries, use the charger only indoors, protect it from moisture, and keep it out of reach of children. If smoke appears, unplug immediately.

How do I clean the charger?

Make sure the ventilation slots are clear. Do not insert any objects into the openings. For cleaning, unplug the charger and wipe it with a dry cloth.

What do I do in case of a malfunction?

If the warning indicator stays lit permanently, the battery is too hot or too cold. Wait until it reaches a temperature between 0 °C and 50 °C. If the indicator flashes, the battery is defective: remove it.

Where can I get my charger repaired?

Repairs must be carried out by a specialist. Contact your Metabo representative or an authorized after-sales service. For a damaged power cord, have it replaced by the manufacturer.

2. Specified Conditions of Use

Chargers are only suitable for charging original Metabo and CAS (Cordless Alliance System) battery packs.

This device is not designed for use by persons (including children) with physical, sensory or mental disabilities, or with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety, or have received instructions on how to use the device by this person.

ASC 290 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells). The device is suitable for charging electronic devices with a USB-C interface (like smartphones, MP3 players, tablets, etc.) - no data exchange

ASC 145 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging NiCd battery packs (12 V, 1.7 Ah, 10 cells).

SC 36, SC 30 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 18 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

Never attempt to charge batteries that are not rechargeable. Danger of explosion!

The user bears sole responsibility for any damage caused by inappropriate use.

Generally accepted accident-prevention regulations and accompanying safety instructions should be observed.

3. General Safety Information

4. Special Safety Instructions

For your own protection and for the protection of your power tool, pay attention to all parts of the text that are marked with this symbol!

Danger - electrical voltage!

A slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-ion battery packs!

If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately! Do not recharge a fully charged battery pack!

Only for use in indoor rooms.

In areas with high metal dust exposure do not charge any battery packs with AIR COOLED chargers.

6. Initial Operation

Before commissioning, check that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency stated on the type plate match your power supply.

Devices like these that generate direct current can influence simple earth leakage protection devices.

Use a type F or better, with a release current of max. 30 mA.

Before commissioning the charger, ensure that the air slots are free. Minimum distance to other objects is 5 cm!

6.1 Self-test

Plug in.

The warning display (4) and the operating indicator (3) light up one after the other for approx. 1 second and the installed fan runs for approx. 5 seconds.

7. Use

7.1 Charging battery pack

Push the battery pack completely to the stop on the sliding seat (2).

The operating indicator (3) flashes.

Note: To have the charge level displayed on Li-ion battery packs, first take the battery pack out of the charger and then press the button on the battery pack.

7.2 Conservation charge

Once the charging process has finished, the battery charger automatically switches to conservation mode.

The battery pack can remain in the battery charger and is therefore always ready for use.

The operating display (3) lights up continuously.

7.3 ASC 290 only: Charge USB device

Only connect USB devices which are compatible with the USB standard. Using

incompatible devices can lead to malfunctions, damage or injuries.

Open the cover (6) and plug a USB device with a suitable cable into the USB-C port (7). The device is charged.

The USB-C port (7) is only supplied with voltage (LED indicator (8) illuminated) if no battery pack is charged.

If a battery pack and USB device are connected at the same time, the USB charging process will start automatically after the end of the battery pack charging process.

8. Faults

8.1 Warning display (4) lights up continuously

Battery pack is not charged. Excessive/insufficient temperature. When the temperature of the battery

pack is between 0 °C and 50 °C, the charging process begins automatically.

ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up continuously and charge status indicator (5) flashes: Charger is hot, or battery pack is cold or hot, battery pack is charged with reduced charging capacity.

8.2 Warning display (4) flashes

• Battery pack is defective. Remove the battery pack immediately from the charger.
• The battery pack was not pushed correctly onto the sliding seat (2). See chapter 7.1.
• ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up and charge status indicator (5) is off: battery pack is not charged. charger too hot.

9. Repairs

Repairs to the charger must only be carried out by qualified electricians.

If the mains connection cable of this device is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or the Customer Service department of the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person to prevent endangering personnel and property.

10. Environmental Protection

Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories.
