General Power Tool Safety Warnings u Read all safety warnings, instruc- tions, illustrations and specifica- tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. u Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. u The term "power tool" in the warn- ings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-oper- ated (cordless) power tool. Work area safety u Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite acci- dents. u Do not operate power tools in ex- plosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, F 016 L81 803 | (22.02.2019) Bosch Power ToolsEnglish | 19 gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. u Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Never operate the power tool while people, especially children, or pets are nearby. Electrical safety u Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. u Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refri- gerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. u Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. u Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or un- plugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. u When operating a power tool out- doors, use an extension cord suit- able for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. u If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a re- sidual current device (RCD) pro- tected supply. Use of an RCD re- duces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety u Stay alert, watch what you are do- ing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alco- hol or medication. A moment of in- attention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. u Use personal protective equip- ment. Always wear eye protec- tion. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will re- duce personal injuries. u Prevent unintentional starting. En- sure the switch is in the off-posi- tion before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, pick- ing up or carrying the tool. Carry- ing power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites acci- dents. u Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power Bosch Power Tools F 016 L81 803 | (22.02.2019)20 | English tool on. This enables better con- trol of the power tool in unexpected situations. u Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from mov- ing parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Always wear substantial foot- wear and long trousers while operat- ing the power tool. u If devices are provided for the con- nection of dust extraction and col- lection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust- related hazards. u Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second. Power tool use and care u Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your ap- plication. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. u Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be con- trolled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. u Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessor- ies, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool ac- cidentally. u Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to oper- ate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. u Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If dam- aged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. u Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. = 1.5 = 1.5 The vibration level given in these instructions has been measured in accordance with a standardised measuring pro- cedure and may be used to compare power tools. It can also be used for a preliminary estimation of exposure to vibra- tion. The stated vibration level applies to the main applications of the power tool. However, if the power tool is used for differ- ent applications, with different application tools or poorly maintained, the vibration level may differ. This can signific- antly increase the exposure to vibration over the total work- ing period. To estimate the exposure to vibration accurately, the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not ac- tually being used should also be taken into account. This can significantly reduce the exposure to vibration over the total working period. Implement additional safety measures to protect the oper- ator from the effects of vibration, such as servicing the power tool and application tools, keeping the hands warm, and organising workflows correctly. Switching on u Caution: Switch garden tool off and remove battery from machine before adjusting or cleaning. Bosch Power Tools F 016 L81 803 | (22.02.2019)28 | English Charging the Battery The battery is equipped with temperature monitoring that al- lows charging only in the temperature range between 0 °C and 45 °C. In this manner, a high battery service life is achieved. Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using for the first time. The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging procedure does not damage the battery. The “Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)” protects the lithium- ion battery against deep discharging. When the battery is discharged, the machine is switched off by means of a pro- tective circuit: The garden product no longer operates. Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after an auto- matic shut-off of the machine. The battery can be dam- aged. Observe the notes for disposal of the battery. u Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the charger. Inserting/Removing the Battery (see figure G) Note: Using unsuitable batteries can lead to malfunctions or damage the machine. Insert the charged battery (2). Ensure the battery is inserted correctly. To remove the battery (2) from the machine, press the bat- tery unlocking button (1) and pull the battery out. Charging Procedure The charging procedure starts as soon as the mains plug of the charger is plugged into a socket outlet and the battery (2) is inserted onto the charger (12). Due to the intelligent charging method, the charging condi- tion of the battery is automatically detected and the battery is charged with the optimum charging current, depending on battery temperature and voltage. This gives longer life to the battery and always leaves it fully charged when kept in the charger for storage. Understanding the Indicators (AL1815CV) Flashing battery charge indicator The charging process is indicated by the flash- ing of the battery charge indicator . Continuous lighting of the battery charge indicator Full Continuous lighting of the battery charge in- dicator indicates that the battery is fully charged or that the temperature of the battery is not within the allowable charging temperature range, and cannot be charged for this reason. The battery is charged as soon as the allowable charging temperature range is reached. When the battery is not inserted, continuous lighting of the battery charge indicator indicates that the mains plug is in- serted in the socket outlet and that the battery charger is ready for operation. Meaning of the Indication Elements (AL1830CV/AL1880CV) (Fast) Flashing of the Green Battery Charge Indicator The rapid-charging procedure is indicated by fast flashing of the green battery charge in- dicator . Note: The rapid-charging procedure is only possible when the battery temperature is within the allowable charging temperature range, see section “Technical Data”. (Slow) Flashing of the Green Battery Charge Indicator When the charging condition of the battery is 80%, the green battery charge indicator flashes slowly.
