EN
Use only the accessories intended by the manufacturer: spool with a plastic line or plastic blade. Do not use other equipment than that intended by the manufacturer, such as discs with a cutting chain. Do not replace the line with metal wire or rope. The use of other equipment than that described may pose a serious threat to the operator and bystanders' safety. Before installing the cutting element and guard, make sure they are not damaged, deformed, and do not have cracks. Ensure that there are no traces of rust on the blade. Check also whether there is at least 1 meter of the line on the spool.
When working, there is a risk of ejecting objects in the direction of the operator and bystanders. The operator is responsible for accidents or hazards to other people or the environment. Do not operate the device if there are bystanders, especially children in the vicinity. Before commencing work, designate a safety zone with a radius of at least 15 meters from the workplace. Always use eye and face protection — these will protect eyes, face, and respiratory tract against particles, dust, and objects ejected during work. Always wear suitable protective clothing adhering to the body. Wear trousers only with long legs. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery, which may be caught by the device's moving parts. Use protective gloves and hearing protectors. Wear protective footwear with non-slip sole. Do not work barefoot or wearing sandals. Always wear a protective helmet for work.
Regularly inspect the device according to the information contained in the further part of the manual. This will allow for more efficient and safe work.
In case the blade hits any foreign object or the device starts to emit high-volume sounds, or vibrate abnormally, stop the motor and wait until the device elements stop. Disconnect the batteries and take the following steps:
- check the damage,
- check whether there are loose elements and tighten them,
- repair or replace all damaged parts with the parts compliant with the specification.
Use hearing protectors during work. Exposure to excessive noise may lead to permanent hearing damage.
Wear safety glasses. The waste generated during work can create a risk of eye damage.
Examine the instructions on stopping the device in case of emergency.
Before use, check whether the cutting element, screws, guard, and other components are not worn or damaged. Replace worn parts before starting work. Check also whether the screw connections are not loose. Tighten the loose screws.

Always connect the batteries to the device after ensuring that the power switch is in the off position.
Check the condition of the device each time before you turn on the device and after dropping or hitting it. If any damages are observed, e.g., cracked housing, it is forbidden to use the device until the damage has been remedied.
If a malfunction or accident occurs during operation, first, turn off the device, disconnect the batteries, and then administer aid to injured persons. Rectify the cause of the malfunction or accident. Check the condition of the device for damage before resuming operation.
Always cut off the power supply by disconnecting the batteries: when the user leaves the
EN
device; before removing a jam; before inspection, cleaning, or works on the device; after the device hit a foreign object to check it for damage; if the device starts to vibrate abnormally to check the device immediately.
Disconnecting the device from the power supply consists of turning off the device with the power switch and disconnecting the power source. In the case of mains-powered devices, it is done by disconnecting the power cord plug from the mains socket. However, in the case of battery-powered devices, it is done by disconnecting the battery.
If any excessive vibrations of the device occur after starting or during operation, this means that it is not working correctly. In such a case, immediately turn off the device with the power switch, disconnect the batteries, and perform a check. Check the correctness of the cutting element installation and the device assembly. After removing the installation irregularities, the device must be assembled, connected to the power supply, and restarted. If abnormal vibration persists, immediately turn off the device with the power switch, disconnect the batteries and hand the device over to an authorised service centre.
Although precautions have been taken during the device's engineering and design and considering that the guidelines in this manual have been followed, there is still a residual risk in terms of exposure to vibration and noise. Therefore, use personal protective equipment, do not work too long, and take regular breaks.
Never touch the dangerous moving parts before disconnecting the device from the power supply and until all dangerous moving parts stop.
The cutting element rotates for some time after the motor is stopped.
Make sure that the batteries have been disconnected from the device before carrying out maintenance.
Keep the device out of reach of unauthorised persons, especially children. Make sure that the device is out of the reach of unauthorised persons, especially children also during operation.
PRODUCT OPERATION
Preparing the grass trimmer for operation
Caution! Unplug the trimmer from the power supply before performing any assembly and adjustment work. Remove the battery from the power tool socket!
Visually inspect the tool. If any damage is discovered, do not commence work before removing them.
Front handle (II) installation and adjustment
If the handle is not installed, press and hold both lock buttons at the same time, then slide the front handle on, so that the buttons are locked in the handle fixing holes. After pressing and holding the lock buttons, it is also possible to adjust the position of the handle. The position of the handle should be selected experimentally, adjusting it to the physical conditions of the operator and the area where the trimmer will be used. The position of the handle should allow you to work with your elbows bent and your back straight. It should also ensure freedom of movement of the trimmer in the working plane.
Installation of the cutting element guard (iii)
Insert the guard lugs into the trimmer housing and secure with a screw.
Adjustment
In addition to adjusting the position of the front handle, the trimmer allows you to adjust the length of the power cord guard, rotate the lower part of the power cord guard, as well as the position of the cutting head.
The position of the cutting head can be changed by pressing and holding the lock button, then setting the head position and releasing the pressure on the lock button (IV).
It is possible to smoothly adjust the length of the power cord guard which translates into the length of the entire tool. Loosen the
EN
ring (V), adjust the length and tighten the ring. Make sure that the trimmer length will not change on its own during operation.
In order to use the trimmer in a more ergonomic manner, the lower guard of the power cord can be rotated. To do this, loosen the ring allowing you to adjust the length of the trimmer, turn the cutting head (IV), and then tighten the ring. Make sure that the head does not change its position on its own during operation.
If the trimmer is used for trimming near other surfaces, e.g. tree trunks or walls, the spacer guard (XIV) should be unfolded. The guard is longer than the range of the line or blade and will ensure clearance so that the blade or line does not damage the surface near which mowing will take place.
Blade (VII) replacement
If the blade is not factory-fitted or needs to be replaced, the blade should be mounted on the head. If the head is dirty, clean it with a soft handheld brush or a painting brush with plastic bristles. Put the larger hole in the blade fixing element through the pin on the plate and then pull it towards the outside of the plate. To disassemble the blade, follow the above procedure in the reverse order. Replace the blade each time it is too worn or when damaged.
There is a small storage compartment in the front handle for keeping spare blades.
Spool installation and line replacement
A spool with a line can be used instead of a plastic blade. Remove the plate with the blade by removing the fixing screw and fixing the spool with the line instead of the plate with the blade.
To unwind the line, pull the line section protruding from the spool and then press the spool lock button (VIII). Each press of the button expands the line by a few millimetres. It is not recommended to unwind the line beyond the length sufficient to reach the blade guard. The section of the line protruding beyond the blade guard will be cut off after turning the trimmer on.
If it is not possible to further unwind the line, it means that the line on the spool is used and must be replaced.
Prepare a section of the line with the length and diameter as provided in the table. Then remove the spool guard cover by simultaneously pressing both cover lock buttons (IX). Pull out the spool and clean the spool and the inside of the spool guard.
Attach one of the ends of the line to the spool by threading it through the loop in the spool and tying it (X). Then wind the remaining section of the line tightly onto the spool in the direction indicated by the arrow on the spool. Avoid crossing the windings and tangling the line when winding. Leave a section of several centimetres and thread it through the holes in the spool guard (XI). Install the spool in the spool guard so that the arrow on the spool points in the same direction as the arrow on the cutting element guard. Then install the spool guard cover and check that the line expands freely by carrying out the above described manual unwinding test.
Preparing the workplace
Before commencing work, prepare the workplace. Designate a safety zone with a radius of at least 15 m from the workplace, which will be inaccessible to unauthorised persons. Ensure that there are no obstacles around the workplace that could cause the operator or grass trimmer collision during work.
Connecting the trimmer to the power supply (XII)
Only one of the following 18V Li-Ion YATO batteries can be used to power the tool: YT-82842, YT-82843, YT-82844, YT-828461, YT-828462, YT-828463, YT-828464, YT-828465 and YT-82845, which can only be charged with YATO YT-82848, YT-828498, YT-828499, YT-828500, YT-828501, YT-828502, YT-828503, YT-828504 or YT-82849 chargers. It is forbidden to use other batteries with a different rated voltage and not matching the tool battery socket. It is forbidden to modify the socket or battery to make them match.
Slide the battery into the power socket with the contacts facing inside the trimmer and upwards until the battery latch engages. Make sure that the battery will not slide out on its own during operation.
Disconnect the battery by pressing and holding the latch and then pulling the battery out of the trimmer housing.
Starting and stopping the trimmer
Make sure that the battery has been connected to the trimmer, that the protection has been removed from the blade of the cutting element guard and that the cutting element does not come into contact with any body part or other objects.
Adopt a posture which guarantees balance. Grasp the front handle with one hand. Grasp the rear handle with the other hand.
Press the switch lock with your thumb and press the switch with the remaining fingers to start the trimmer.
It is not necessary to hold the lock during operation.
The trimmer stops when the pressure on the switch is released. The cutting element can rotate for some time after the motor is stopped. It is forbidden to stop the cutting element by pressing the spool against the ground or against another object.
After the cutting element has come to a complete stop, disconnect the trimmer from the power supply by removing the battery.
Next, proceed with maintenance.
Trimmer operation
Do not allow the tool to operate at low speed or during start-up.
It is recommended to move the trimmer from right to left during work. Avoid mowing by moving the trimmer from left to right. This will allow the operator to avoid ejected mowed grass residues during mowing.
EN
Avoid mowing shrubs and bushes. Operating the trimmer near trees may damage the bark. Hitting the stones, bricks, brickworks, or other similar surfaces with the line may lead to the line's very fast wear.
Avoid trimming with the upper right quarter of the blade (XIII). This will prevent the trimmer from kickback towards the operator if the blade is blocked during operation.
Working tips
The trimmer can only be used to cut grass. Do not use it to cut shrubs or woody parts of stems.
Maintain balance and proper posture during work. Exercise particular caution when working on a slippery, inclined, or uneven surface.
Continuously monitor the cutting element during work. Do not mow in places which are out of sight.
Before starting work, inspect the workplace thoroughly, remove all loose branches and residues from the previous mowing.
Take regular breaks when working. During operation, the tool emits noise and vibration, which impact the tool's operator. Taking regular breaks and wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, hearing protectors and eye protection allows to reduce the impact of the tool on the operator's well-being.
Start work when healthy and in good shape. In case of nausea, headache, sight problems (e.g., reduced visual range), hearing problems, or dizziness, immediately stop operating the tool.
Mow high grass gradually from above; this will reduce the risk of the grass mowed being wound on the spool with the line.
Try to mow the grass only with the line end; this will reduce the risk of the grass mowed being wound on the spool with the line. If, during operation, any part of the trimmer or guard is damaged or deformed, replace or repair it before resuming work.
PRODUCT MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Caution! Before starting any activities described below, disconnect the grass trimmer from the power supply. In the case of mains-powered tools, disconnect them from the socket, and for battery-powered tools - disconnect their batteries.
After each use, inspect the condition of the tool with particular attention to the flow capacity of ventilation openings.
Check the placement of all of the tool's components. Tighten all loose screw connections, if any. Check the condition of the cutting element. Clean the cutting element guard and the spool from grass residues. If the cutting element guard and/or the spool is damaged, replace it before performing further work. It is forbidden to use the trimmer with a damaged cutting element guard and/or the spool.
Clean the tool's housing with a soft, dry cloth. Clean the housing from grass residues, oil, grease, and other contaminants. Store the disconnected tool in a dry and closed room.
Store the tool in shaded and dry places with appropriate ventilation preventing steam condensation. Such place should not be accessible to unauthorised persons, especially children. During storage, the blades should always be protected with a guard.
