INFORMATION REGARDING PRODUCT USE, SAFETY, SERVICE LIFE, STORAGE AND CARE

This product is part of personal protection equipment (PPE) to prevent falling from heights and should be allocated to one single person. These instructions contain important information. You must have read and understood these instructions before using the product. This user manual must be supplied to users in the language of the country the product is destined for by the reseller and must be kept with the equipment throughout its service life.

INSTRUCTIONS

Read the following instructions carefully and follow them at all times. This product is designed specifically for mountaineering, climbing and working at heights or underground. It does not exempt you from personal responsibility to act with caution while wearing it.

Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights or underground often involve hidden risks and dangers from external factors. A risk of accidents cannot be ruled out. To maximize your safety when mountaineering, climbing and working at heights or underground, use correctly only mountaineering equipment that complies with the industry standards. For more detailed and in-depth information, please refer to the appropriate literature. The following instructions are important to ensure that the equipment is used correctly and appropriately. However, these instructions will never be a substitute for experience, individual responsibility and knowledge of the risks involved in

mountaineering, climbing and working at heights or underground. They do not release the user from taking personal responsibility. The equipment may only be used by trained, experienced people or under appropriate supervision and instruction. Users should be aware that poor physical and mental health may add to the risks to safety. Before using the equipment, users must familiarize themselves with procedures for safe and effective rescue.

The manufacturer cannot be held liable if the equipment is misused and/or used incorrectly. Users will bear the responsibility and risks in all cases.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Combining this product with other components entails a risk of a mutually adverse effect on safety while used. The product should only be used with personal protection equipment (PPE) components that bear the CE mark and are designed to provide protection from falls. The safety of the product may be restricted if original components of the product are modified or removed. The equipment should never be modified or adapted to attach additional parts unless recommended in writing by the manufacturer. Check the product for signs of damage, ensure that it is in a suitable condition and functions correctly before and after use. The product must not be used if you have the slightest doubt about its safety.

SERVICE LIFE AND REPLACEMENT

The product's service life essentially depends on the type and frequency of use and on external influences. Products made of synthetic fibers (polyamide, polyester and Dyneema®) age to some extent even when they are not used. This depends in particular on the intensity of ultraviolet rays and the ambient climate. Once its period of use has expired, and at the very latest once its maximum service life has expired, the product must be withdrawn from use.

Maximum service life in perfect storage conditions (see "Storage") and without use: 12 years.

Occasional use: If used occasionally and correctly with no obvious signs of wear and in perfect storage conditions: 10 years.

Frequent or extreme use: If used in extreme conditions with frequent or extreme impact from falls, safety reserves could be reduced to such an extent after a short period of time that the equipment must be replaced.

All PPE products are to be replaced immediately if products with webbing are damaged at the webbing edges or if fibers have been pulled from the webbing, signs of damage/wear are evident on the seams, or if the product has come into contact with chemicals. Ropes and products that feature ropes must be immediately replaced if they have been subjected to a hard fall (fall factor >1) or the sheath is severely damaged (so that the core is visible), or if they have been in contact with chemicals. Repairs may only be carried out using procedures specified by the manufacturer.

PRODUCT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION, EXPLANATION OF THE ILLUSTRATIONS

1 Correct use of buckles.

2a+b Correct adjustment of harness size. When the leg loops are pulled tight, it should be possible to push an outstretched hand under the strap.
2c On some harness models the adjustment range can be increased by releasing the strap from the holder.
3 When making your purchase or before use, check the fit and correct adjustment of the harness by putting it on and hanging in it in a safe location. If everything has been adjusted correctly,

you should be able to breathe properly and experience no pain while hanging in it for ten minutes.

4 Ensure that the tie-in loop is correctly positioned. The tie-in loop must not be twisted.

5 Buckles, the tie-in point and tying in knots should also be checked at regular intervals during use.

6 We recommend using a figure of eight knot for tying in to the harness.

7a The gear loops are designed to transport up to 5 kg of equipment.

7b Gear loops must never be used as a tie-in point.

8a Correct use: tying in through harness tie-in point and leg loop base.

8b Correct use: tying in through the tie-in ring.

8c Incorrect use: tying in at the harness tie-in point only.

8d Incorrect use: tying in through the leg loop only.

9a Correct use: tying in for harnesses with two symmetrical tie-in points.

9b Caution: if you tie in to just one tie-in point on harnesses with two symmetrical tie-in points you could risk serious injury or death.

10 Correct use: tying in for full-body harnesses (Type A) with two symmetrical tie-in points.

11 Correct use: tying in for harnesses with a single, lateral tie-in loop.

12a+b For harnesses with a metal D-ring and a tie-in loop, the harness may be attached at the D ring or the tie-in loop.

13a+b Children's full-body harnesses are only permitted for people weighing 40 kg in total.

13b+c If the harness is attached using the rear tie-in eyelet, the two front tie-in loops must be connected by a locking carabiner.

14 Belay devices or carabiners must be attached directly to the tie-in loop.

15 Via ferrata sets or systems with a tie-in loop must be secured at the tie-in ring with a girth hitch (lark's foot).

16a If there is a risk that your torso might tip over without any control, a sit harness (Type C) should only be used in conjunction with a chest harness (Type D). To connect a chest harness (Type D) with a sit harness (Type C) knotted webbing with a minimum strength of 15 kN (3 marking stripes) can be used. The lower knot should be approximately level with your solar plexus.

16b Alternatively the rope can be routed straight through the loops on the chest harness.

16c Do not use a chest harness (Type D) without a sit harness (Type C).

17a Load-bearing screw elements must be checked at regular intervals to ensure that they are correctly fitted.

17b When fastening the SCREW D-ring and during a PPE

inspection, ensure that the bolt is tightened with a torque of 4Nm.

18 If the abrasion protector at a tie-in point is worn or if the red wear indicator threads are visible, the harness must be withdrawn from use.

19 Harnesses can be washed with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. After washing, rinse the harness with clean water. Standard disinfectants can also be used if required.

20 Harnesses may be used in temperatures ranging from -35^ to +55^ .

21 Do not wash harnesses in a washing machine.

22 Do not dry harnesses in direct sunlight.

23 Do not dry harnesses on radiators or other sources of heat.

24 Harnesses should be stored and dried in a cool, dry place away from direct ultraviolet rays.

25 The load-bearing structure of the harness:

  • must not come into contact with acids, such as battery acid, caustic substances or other chemicals
  • the strength of the product may be adversely affected by icy conditions

  • must not be written on

  • must be protected from severe abrasion and sharp edges
  • must not be damaged or changed
  • must not be exposed to extreme heat or sparks
  • should be protected from sunlight
