Application for Indented Purpose

The diamond core drill EHD 1500 is indented only for professional use and may be used only by instructed personnel. With an Dust Extraction (dust category M) and an appropriate drill bit, the tool can be used for cutting of bricks, sand-lime bricks and pore concrete (not for concrete, stone).

Safety Instructions

Safe work with the machine is only possible if you read this operating instruction and follow the instructions contained strictly. Additionally, the general safety instructions of the leaflet supplied with the tool must be observed. Prior to the first use, the user should absolve a practical training. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

If the mains cable gets damaged or cut during the use, do not touch it, but instantly pull the plug out of the socket. Never use the tool with damaged mains cable.

The tool must neither be wet nor used in humid environment.

• Do not use the tool in an environment with danger of explosion.
• Do not use the tool standing on a ladder.
• Do not drill into asbestos-containing materials.
• Do not carry the tool at its cable, and always check the tool, cable and plug before use. Have damages only repaired by specialists. Insert the plug into the socket only when the tool switch is off.
  ■ Modifications of the tool are prohibited.
• Unplug the tool and make sure that the switch is off if the tool is not under supervision, e.g. during preparation and take-down works, at power failures, for insertion or mounting accessories.
• Unplug the tool if is stops for any reason. So you avoid sudden starts in unattended condition.
• Do not use the tool it its shell, switch, cable or plug are damaged.
• Always lead the mains and extension cables as well as the dedusting hose from the tool to the back.
• Electrical tools have to be inspected visually by a specialist in regular intervals.
• The tool may be used only in two-hand operation or with the drill rig.
• Keep the handles dry, clean, and free of oil and grease.
• Do not touch rotating parts.
• Persons under 16 years are not allowed to use the tool.
• During use, the user and other persons standing nearby have to wear suitable goggles, helmets, ear protectors, dust mask, protective cloves and boots.

• During manual operation, always hold the tool with both hands and be fall-safe. Consider the tool's reaction torque in case of blocking.
• Always work with concentration. Always work in a carefully considered way and do not use the tool if you are lacking consideration.
• Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

Electrical Connection

The EHD 1500 is designed in accordance with protection class II.

The machine is equipped with a starting current limiter. This prevents the inadvertent triggering of quick-acting circuit breakers. Before starting up, check whether the mains voltage and mains frequency match the information

on the type plate. Voltage deviations of +6% and -10% are permissible. Only extension cables with a sufficient cross-section may be used, as an insufficient cross-section can lead to excessive power loss and overheating of the machine and cable.

Additional Handle

The EHD 1500 may only be operated in conjunction with the additional handle or on the drill stand.

This is attached to the front of the gear neck, brought into the desired position and tightened by turning the handle.

Switching ON and OFF

Short-time operation

ON: Press the ON/OFF switch

OFF: Release the ON/OFF switch

Long-time operation

ON: Keeping the ON/OFF switch pressed, push in the arrestor button.

OFF: Press and release the ON/OFF switch again.

Attention!

Use the arrestor button only during operation with drill rig. Its use during manual operation is not allowed.

If the machine stops for any reason or due to power failure, immediately release the arrestor button by pressing the ON/OFF switch.

The machine is equipped with an electronic switch. Depending on how the button is pressed, the speed can be regulated. We recommend using this to make light drilling easier. Continuous operation at a reduced speed will cause overloading, as less cooling air is then available to the motor, causing it to overheat significantly faster. A brief flashing of the overload display when switching on is normal.

Drill Bits

The EHD 1500 is equipt with a spindle connection M18. For drill bits with M16 male threads, an adapter (Order Number 35512000) is available as add-ons.

The EHD 1500 Set is equipt with a dust extraction for drill bits M16 (Order Number: 35472000, 35474000, 35475000, 35476000)

Make sure that the diamond segments have sufficient cutting clearance towards the bit body.

Changing Drill Bits

Caution!

The tool can become hot during use or sharpening. You can burn your hands or cut or tear them on the segments.

Therefore, always use protective work gloves when changing tools.

The drill spindle is equipped with a right-hand thread.

Always use an open-ended spanner SW 24 as a counterholder, which is placed on the drill spindle. Under no circumstances should the drill bit be loosened by hitting it (with a hammer), as this can cause damage to the core drilling machine.

Drilling

Dust created during work is hazardous to health. For dry drilling, a dust extractor (dust class M) must therefore be used or a dust mask worn. The appropriate wet/dry vacuum cleaner, the ESS 35 MP, is available as an accessory. Use of a dust extractor is also a prerequisite for optimum cutting performance of the drill bit (air cooling). Please refer to the information provided by the drill bit manufacturer when selecting the appropriate drill bit for different materials. Insert the centring drill so that it engages in the working spindle of the dust extractor. Screw the appropriate dry drill bit onto the working spindle of the dust extractor.

Press the on/off switch and drill until the segments have worked their way approx. 5 mm into the material to be drilled. Remove the centring drill bit. Place the core bit in the existing groove and finish the drilling. Adjust the feed to the core diameter and the power of the machine. If the drilling tool jams, do not attempt to release it by switching the machine on and off. This will cause premature wear of the safety slip clutch. Switch the machine off immediately and loosen the core bit by turning it clockwise and anticlockwise with a suitable open-ended spanner. Carefully pull the machine out of the drill hole.

Overload Protection

The machine is equipped with mechanical, electronic and thermal overload protection to protect the operator, the motor and the drill bit.

Mechanical: If the drill bit suddenly jams, the reaction force of the machine is limited by means of a slip clutch to a level that the operator can control.

Electronic: To warn the operator of an overload on the drilling machine due to excessive feed force, an LED is built into the switch handle as an overload indicator. When idling and under normal load, there is no display. In the event of an overload, the diode lights up red. In this case, the machine must be relieved. If the red display is not observed for a longer period of time, the machine will automatically switch off via the electronics. After relieving the machine and switching the device off and on again, work can continue as normal.

OVER LOAD

Thermal: With the help of a thermal element, the motor is protected from destruction in the event of sustained overloading. Here, too, the user is warned by the overload display. Shortly before the excess temperature is reached, the display flashes red. If this is ignored, the machine switches off automatically and can only be put back into operation after it has cooled down (approx. 2 minutes). The overload display continues to flash until the machine has cooled sufficiently and can be restarted. The cooling time depends on the heating of the motor winding and the ambient temperature.

Safety Clutch

The slip clutch is designed to absorb shocks and excessive loads.

To maintain its functionality, it should slip for a maximum of 2 seconds. It can be replaced by an authorised specialist workshop in the event of excessive wear.

Before the beginning of the maintenance- or repair works you have to disconnect plug from the mains.

It is a must to unplug the tool before starting any service or repair works. Repairs may be executed only by appropriately qualified and experienced personnel. After every repair, the unit has to be checked by an electrical specialist. According to its design, the tool requires a minimum of care and maintenance. However, the following maintenance works and component checks have to be performed in regular intervals:

• The electric tool as well as the ventilation slots always has to be clean.
• During work, please pay attention that no foreign elements get into the interior of the machine.
• Once per quarter of a year, an electrical specialist should check the switch, cable and plug.

Environmental Protection

To avoid damages in transit, the tool is supplied in a sturdy packing. The packing as well as the tool and its accessories are made of recyclable materials which enable environmentally friendly and sortwise disposal by the local reception points.

In observance of European Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its implementation in accordance with national law, electric tools that have reached the end of their life must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.

Noise Emission

Measured sound values determined according to EN 62841-2-1.

Typically the A-weighted noise levels of the product are:

Vibration total values a_h and uncertainty K determined according to EN 62841-2-1:

The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However, if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period. An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period. Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Dust protection

Dust from material such as paint containing lead, some wood species, minerals and metal may be harmful. Contact with or inhalation of the dust may cause allergic reactions and/or respiratory diseases to the operator or bystanders. Certain kinds of dust are classified as carcinogenic such as oak and beech dust especially in conjunction with additives for wood conditioning (chromate, wood preservative). Material containing asbestos must only be treated by specialists.

• Where the use of a dust extraction device is possible it shall be used.
• To achieve a high level of dust collection, use industrial vacuum cleaner ESS 35 MP for wood and/or minerals together with this tool.
  ■ The work place must be well ventilated.
• The use of a dust mask of filter class P2 is recommended.

Warranty

In accordance with our general terms and conditions of delivery, a warranty period of 12 months applies for material defects in business transactions with companies (proof by invoice or delivery note).

Excluded are damages that can be attributed to natural wear and tear, overuse or improper handling. Damages that can be attributed to material or manufacturing defects will be remedied free of charge by repair or replacement. Complaints can only be accepted if the device is sent to the supplier or an authorised workshop in Eibenstock in an undismantled state.
