Frequently Asked Questions - Sono 1 Ritter

How to clean the blade of the Sono 1 slicer?
Before cleaning, switch off the appliance, unplug it and set the thickness adjustment knob to 0. Remove the blade by opening the clamping device (7) clockwise. Clean the blade and other removable parts in hot water (not dishwasher safe). Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Dry all parts thoroughly before reassembling.
Can I cut frozen or hot foods with the Sono 1?
No, it is strictly forbidden to cut frozen, hot, bone-in, large-pitted, or packaged products. This could damage the blade or cause injury. Only use foods at room temperature or refrigerated.
What is the maximum cutting thickness?
The cutting thickness can be adjusted from 0 mm to 20 mm approximately using the adjustment knob (2). For safety reasons, position 0 covers the blade.
How to change the blade of the slicer?
First unplug the appliance. Remove the carriage and tray. Open the blade clamping device (7) by turning clockwise. Grasp the blade by its center and pull it out. To install a new blade, place it on the shaft, close the clamping device. Make sure it is securely fastened.
Is the appliance easy to disassemble for cleaning?
Yes, disassembly is simple. Remove the receiving tray (3) by sliding it to the left, take off the food pusher (10) and the carriage (9) by lifting it from the groove. Then remove the blade as described above. All these parts are easy to clean.
What to do if the appliance does not start?
First check that the plug is properly inserted and that the thickness adjustment knob is not set to 0 (the blade is then covered). If the switch (1) does not work, contact customer service. Never attempt to repair it yourself.
Can I use the appliance continuously?
Yes, thanks to continuous mode, but do not exceed 5 minutes of uninterrupted use. After that, let the appliance cool down. Short-term mode (holding the switch) is also available.
How to store the power cord?
Use the integrated cord storage located under the appliance. Never wrap the cord around the appliance and avoid bending it. Store the appliance out of reach of children.
Where to find spare parts or maintenance grease?
Contact the local customer service or visit www.ritterwerk.de. You will find the optional smooth blade for meat and cold cuts as well as Ritter maintenance grease.
Is the warranty valid outside Germany?
Yes, the manufacturer's warranty of 2 years applies to all appliances sold in the European Union. See the terms at www.ritterwerk.de/warranty. For repair, send the appliance to a service center in your country.

INTENDED USE

The food slicer is used for the slicing of household foods.

Ritter Sono 1 - INTENDED USE - 1

The food slicer is suitable for contact with foodstuffs.

If the appliance is used for a purpose other than this, or if it is operated incorrectly, severe injuries may occur or the appliance may be damaged. All warranty and liability claims will be rendered null and void in this case.

BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Preparation

Remove the appliance carefully from the packaging. Remove all packaging parts and keep these together with the packaging in a safe place. Clean the appliance before allowing it to come into contact with any food (see CLEANING).

Setting-up the appliance

- Set the appliance down on a flat, non-skid surface close to a mains socket.

A Using a small amount of force, push the slice carriage (9) vertically into the guide groove on the appliance until it audibly locks into place.

B Slide the left-over holder (10) onto the slice carriage's handle.

compact ^1 / nova ^1 / fino ^1 / sigma ^1

Unwind the power cord (5) to the length required from the cable compartment (8) under the appliance.

- Plug the cable into the socket.

SLICING

D Use the slice thickness adjustment knob (2) to set the required thickness.

Note:

The slice thickness adjustment scale is not a millimetre scale. For safety reasons, the "0" position is designed to cover the blade.

E Place the food to be sliced onto the slice carriage (9). Use the left-over holder (10) to press it up against the stop plate (11).

F Protect your hands, by always using the slice carriage and, where applicable, the left-over holder. Exception: Excessively large foods to be sliced.

G Turn the appliance on using the power switch (1). Two operating modes are available:

Temporary operation:

Press the power switch and slide it towards the arrow until you feel some resistance. The rotary blade (6) runs as long as the power switch is pressed and held down in this position.

Continuous operation:

Press the power switch and slide it towards the arrow beyond the resistance point until it latches into place. The rotary blade runs without the power switch having to be pressed and held down, until you push the power switch back into the "0" position.

Note:

Never use the appliance for more than a maximum of 5 minutes in continuous operation.

- With the appliance running, gently feed the food to be sliced into the path of the rotary blade.

  • Once slicing has been completed, wait until the rotary blade has come to a complete stop.
    • After each use, turn the slice thickness adjustment knob to the "0" position, in order to cover up the sharp rotating blade and to avoid any injuries.

H compact ^1 / fino ^1

Pull the slice tray (3) to the left and out of the appliance.

CLEANING

Caution:

Switch the appliance off before cleaning it; pull the power plug out off the socket and turn the slice thickness adjustment knob (2) to the "0" position.

Clean the food slicer regularly to prevent the accumulation of food residue. The rotary blade must also be cleaned regularly as described below to prevent its surface from rusting.

Note:

Over time, an accumulation of food residue may cause damage to the surface of the rotary blade, causing it to rust.

Preparation

compact ^1 / fino ^1

Occasional cleaning

  • Give all removed parts, including the rotary blade, a thorough wash in warm soapy water (not in the dishwasher!).

Note:

Do not use any abrasive cleansers, sponges with rough surfaces or hard brushes to clean the appliance.

  • Dry all parts that you have washed.
  • Grease the rotary blade's gear wheel with a little ritter maintenance grease (alternatively with a little Vaseline).
  • Fit the rotary blade back into the appliance.

MAINTENANCE

Your food slicer is maintenance-free. However, we recommend that you occasionally apply a little extra ritter maintenance grease or Vaseline to the rails of the slice carriage to keep them lubricated and ensure that the carriage continues to move easily.
