Important safety instructions ∙ In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix). ∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ∙ To avoid any risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it in a liquid. ∙ The milk container must be cleaned immediately after use. Detailed information on cleaning can be found in the section Cleaning and care. ∙ The milk frother must only be used on its designated base. ∙ The electrical connection in the base must be protected at all times against possible contact with water. GB11 ∙ Always use the milk container handle, as the surface may be hot during and after operation. ∙ Caution: Any misuse can cause severe personal injury. ∙ This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as the - staff kitchens in shops, offi ces and other similar working environments, - agricultural working environments, - by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation, - in bed-and breakfast type environments. ∙ This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved. ∙ Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance. ∙ Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age. ∙ The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. ∙ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation. ∙ Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fi tted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have12 been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance. ∙ This appliance is solely designed for heating up and frothing milk. Do not put any other type of liquid or solid food in the container. ∙ Do not leave the milk frother unattended while in use. ∙ Always observe the maximum level marks inside the container for each application. If there is not enough milk, the appliance may overheat. ∙ To prevent such overheating, the appliance will automatically switch off if it is operated when empty. If this occurs, the indicator light will go out. Remove the plug from the socket and allow the appliance to cool down. ∙ Overfi lling the container may cause danger if frothing milk is forced out. ∙ Caution: The lid must always be fi tted during operation; it should only be taken off to add cocoa powder or the like. ∙ The appliance may only be used with the original accessory parts provided by the manufacturer. ∙ The appliance must always be set on a fi rm, level surface. ∙ Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to come into contact with open fl ames or any hot surfaces such as hot- plates. ∙ Do not allow the power cord to hang free; the cord must be kept well away from hot parts of the appliance. ∙ Always remove the plug from the wall socket - in case of any malfunction, - after use, - before cleaning the appliance. ∙ When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. ∙ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with. Before using for the fi rst time Remove any packaging materials and check that all components are present. Before the appliance is used for the fi rst time, or after extended periods of non-use, it should be thoroughly cleaned as described in the section Cleaning and care. Operation ∙ We recommend using milk with a high protein content. For best results, the milk should be taken from the refrigerator immediately before frothing. ∙ Always ensure that the contact surface between the base and the milk container is clean and dry. Selecting the stirring insert ∙ To froth milk, fi t the stirring insert with the coil onto the shaft of the holder, with the fl at side facing downwards.
Simply to heat milk, fi t the stirring insert, without the coil, onto the holder shaft, with the fl at side facing downwards. ∙ The rubber ring must be fi tted on the holder during operation. Do not use the appliance without the rubber ring.13 Fill amounts ∙ For frothing, fi ll the container to a maximum of 150 ml (lower max mark) ∙ For heating, fi ll the container to a maximum of 300 ml (upper max mark) Heating and frothing milk ∙ Connect the appliance to the mains. ∙ Place the container onto the base. ∙ Remove the lid from the milk container. ∙ Fit the ‘Frothing’ stirring insert (with coil) to the shaft and place the assembly (properly centred) into the milk container. ∙ Caution: If off-centre, the holder may cause unusual operating noise. In that case, switch off and re-centre the holder. ∙ Put the required amount of milk into the container. ∙ Place the lid on the container. ∙ Press the On/Off switch once if you want to heat up milk. ∙ The indicator light shows red, and the appliance begins to heat up and froth the milk. ∙ Once the milk is suffi ciently frothed, the stirring and heating processes stop automatically, and the indicator light goes out. ∙ You can now remove the milk container from the base. ∙ Pour out the milk, or use the plastic spatula or a suitable spoon to take off the milk froth. ∙ Detach the power cord from the wall socket after use. Cold-frothing milk ∙ Proceed as described in the section ‘Heating and frothing milk’, but press the On/Off switch three times in succession. ∙ The indicator light shows blue and the appliance starts cold-frothing the milk. ∙ Once the milk is suffi ciently frothed, the stirring process stops automatically and the indicator light goes out. ∙ You can now remove the milk container from the base. ∙ Pour out the milk, or use the plastic spatula or a suitable spoon to take off the milk froth. ∙ Disconnect the appliance from the mains after use. Heating up milk ∙ Proceed as described in the section ‘Heating and frothing milk’, using the ‘Heating’ stirring insert. ∙ Press the ON/Off switch twice in succession. ∙ The indicator light starts fl ashing red and the appliance begins to heat the milk. ∙ Once the milk is suffi ciently hot, the stirring and heating process stops automatically and the indicator light goes out. ∙ You can now remove the milk container from the base. ∙ Pour out the milk. ∙ Disconnect the appliance from the mains after use.14 Remark ∙ Always allow the appliance to cool down fi rst, before starting a new cycle. ∙ Do not leave heated or frothed milk in the container - pour it right away. Hint To achieve a thicker froth, go through a cold- frothing cycle fi rst, followed by a hot-frothing cycle. Making hot cocoa ∙ The appliance is also suitable for the preparation of cocoa drinks. ∙ Proceed as described in ‘Heating up milk’ (having fi rst fi tted the insert without the coil). ∙ Turn the appliance on, take off the lid after about 30 seconds, slowly put in the desired amount of cocoa powder and replace the lid. ∙ To prevent the mechanism from becoming blocked, only milk-soluble cocoa powder should be used. Interrupting or ending a cycle Press the On/Off switch repeatedly until the indicator light goes out. The heating and stirring process stops. Press the On/Off switch again to continue the heating and stirring process. Cleaning and care ∙ Always remove the plug from the wall socket and wait until the motor has come to a complete standstill before cleaning the appliance. ∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the base or the power cord with water and do not immerse them. ∙ The stirring inserts, holder and lid should be cleaned after each operating cycle in hot water and a little detergent. ∙ The rubber ring on the holder can be removed for cleaning in hot soapy water. Dry thoroughly, and refi t it to the holder before the next cycle. ∙ The milk container must not be immersed in water or cleaned in a dishwasher. Fill in some hot water and detergent and wipe it clean. ∙ Wipe all parts thoroughly dry. ∙ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions. Disposal Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.15 Guarantee This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modifi ed, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse. This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return.
