How to charge the Braun SE 5531 epilator?

Plug the device (turned off) into an electrical outlet using the special power cord provided. The charging indicator flashes during charging and stays on when the battery is full. Charging time is approximately 1 hour.

Can I use the epilator in the shower?

Yes, the device can be used in the shower or bath, but only cordless (not plugged in). Make sure your skin is well moistened for better gliding.

How to clean the epilation head?

Remove the attachment (skin contact, massage, or cap) and rinse it under water. To clean the tweezers, use the provided brush for dry use. After use on moist skin, always rinse the head under water.

How to use the cap for beginners?

The cap for beginners combines epilation and shaving to get used gradually. Apply shaving foam or gel on moist skin and use only on legs. Replace it after 12 uses or if worn out.

What to do if the tweezers with light stop working?

The tweezers use 3 LR41 button cell batteries. To replace them, unscrew the battery compartment with a coin, insert new batteries (negative pole first), and screw back on.

How to change the foil or cutter block of the shaver?

The foil and cutter block should be replaced when shaving performance decreases. Use Braun spare parts available from retailers or authorized service centers.

Can the epilator be used on armpits and bikini line?

Yes, but start with speed I as these areas are more sensitive. Stretch the skin well and guide the device in different directions to catch all hairs.

Charging

• Before use, charge the appliance. Using the special cord set (6), connect the appliance to an electrical outlet with the motor switched off. For best performance, we recommend that you always use a fully charged appliance.
• Charging time is approximately 1 hour.
• The charging light flashes to show that the appliance is being charged. When the battery is fully charged, the charging light shines permanently. Once fully charged, use the appliance without the cord. The charging light shines during operation. If it goes off during operation, it is time to recharge the appliance.
• A full charge provides up to 30 minutes of cordless operation time.
• The best environmental temperature for charging, using and storing the appliance is between 15°C and 35°C. In case the temperature is beyond this range, the charging time might be longer whereas the cordless operation time might be reduced.
• At the end of its lifetime, the rechargeable battery can be replaced at an authorized Braun Service Centre.

Switching on

Push the on/off button (4) to switch on speed 1).

Push a second time to switch to speed 2. Push one more time to turn off the appliance.

Epilation

• When epilating on dry skin, your skin must be free from grease or cream.
• The appliance can be used on wet skin, even under running water. Make sure that the skin is very moist. In order to achieve optimum gliding conditions for the appliance, you may use a shower gel while epilating.

The epilation head (2) is equipped with different caps (1, 7 or 8 depending on model). Choose the cap according to your needs:

Skin contact cap (1): provides a close skin contact and adapts to all body areas.

Massage cap (7): can be used instead of the skin contact cap (1). It stimulates the skin to make the epilation process more comfortable.

Always stretch your skin while epilating. Hold the appliance at a right angle (90°) against your skin and guide it in a slow, continuous motion against the hair growth in the direction of the switch.

Use on legs: Epilate your legs in an upward direction. When epilating behind

the knee, keep the leg stretched out straight. Keep your leg stretched out straight when removing hair in the area behind the knee.

Use on underarm and bikini zone: Since these areas are sensitive to pain, start with speed I. With repeated usage, the pain sensation will diminish. Before epilating, thoroughly clean the respective area to remove residues (like deodorant). When epilating the underarm, keep your arm raised up and guide the appliance in different directions in order to catch all hairs that might grow in various directions.

Beginner cap (8) for first time users:

combines epilation and shaving to help getting used to hair removal from the root. It has been designed for wet usage on legs only. Always apply shave foam or gel on your wet skin when using the beginner cap.

In the beginning phase (first 4 weeks), use the epilator with the beginner cap once a week to epilate and shave. Take special care on bony, uneven skin areas in order to avoid injuries caused by the blades. Between usages, rinse off the foam built up on the beginner cap.

After 4 weeks, you will be used to hair removal and can switch to epilation using the skin contact (1) or massage cap (7). If you want to continue to use the beginner cap, make sure to replace it after 12 usages (or in case the blade shows signs of wear, kinks, or damage). Replacement caps (reference #771WD) are available from the retailer where the appliance was bought, from Braun Service Centres or via www.service.braun.com.

Epilation tips

• If you have not used an epilator before, or if you have not epilated for a long period of time, it may take a short time for your skin to adapt to epilation. The discomfort experienced in the beginning will decrease considerably with repeated use as the skin adapts to the process.
• When epilating for the first time, it is advisable to epilate in the evening, so that any possible reddening can disappear overnight. To relax the skin we recommend applying a moisturizing cream after epilating.
• Epilation is easier and more comfortable when the hair is at the optimum length of 2 to 5 mm. If hairs are longer, we recommend that you first shave and epilate the shorter, re-growing hairs after 3 to 5 days.
• Fine, re-growing hairs might not grow up to the skin surface. Exfoliation helps preventing in-grown hairs by scrubbing/removing the upper skin layer so that fine hairs can get through to the skin surface.

Cleaning the epilation head

Regularly cleaning the epilation head ensures good hygienic conditions. First remove the cap used (1, 7 or 8) and rinse it under running water. To remove the epilation head, press the release button (5).

Dry: Thoroughly clean the tweezers element using the cleaning brush.

Wet: After each wet usage (especially with gel), clean the epilation head under running water. During cleaning, turn on the epilator for a few seconds. Re-attach one of the caps only when the epilation head is completely dry.

General information on epilation

All methods of hair removal from the root can lead to in-grown hairs and irritation (e.g. itching, discomfort or reddening of the skin), depending on the condition of the skin and hair. This is a normal reaction and should quickly disappear, but may be stronger when you are removing hair from the root for the first few times or if you have sensitive skin.

If after 36 hours the skin still shows irritation, we recommend that you contact your physician.

In general, the skin reaction and the sensation of pain tend to diminish considerably with repeated use of Silk-epil.

In some cases inflammation of the skin could occur when bacteria penetrate the skin (e.g. when sliding the appliance over the skin). Thorough cleaning of the epilation head before each use will minimize the risk of infection.

If you have any doubts about using this appliance, please consult your physician. In the following cases, this appliance should only be used after prior consultation with a physician: eczema, wounds, inflamed skin reactions such as folliculitis (purulent hair follicles), varicose veins, around moles, reduced immunity of the skin, e.g. diabetes mellitus, during pregnancy, Raynaud's disease, haemophilia, immune deficiency or candida.

Shaving (see picture section B)

The shaver head (9) is designed for a fast and close shave of legs, underarms and bikini line, contour trimming and cutting hair to 5 mm length. Use the shaver head only on dry skin and with speed II.

Tap the shaver foil (II) on a flat surface. Do not clean it with the brush as this may damage the foil.

Lighted tweezers

Caution

• The tweezers are not designed or intended to be used by children.
• Do not point the LED light into your or somebody else's eyes.
• Do not allow the tweezers to get in contact with water or wet hands.
• Inspect regularly for signs of damage and discontinue use in case of damage or defects.
• Keep button cell batteries out of reach of children and pets to avoid swallowing.
• Batteries may leak if empty or not used for a long time. In order to protect you and the appliance, remove and replace exhausted batteries in a timely manner. Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. Do not mix new and used batteries or different battery types. Insert batteries with correct polarity.
• Avoid skin contact whilst handling leaking batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in fire.

How to use

The tweezers (10) are intended for removing individual hairs in the face (e.g. eyebrows). They are ready for use since they include 3 button cell batteries. Remove the switch lock before first use (10a).

To turn on the light, push the on/off switch (10b). Always pull out the hair in the direction of the hair growth. Do not use the tweezers to remove hairs that grow out of moles.

Replacing the batteries (10c)

1. Use a small coin to unscrew the base of the battery compartment (turn counter-clockwise).
2. Carefully remove used batteries and insert 3 new batteries (type LR 41) with the « - » poles first. Then replace the base by screwing it clockwise onto the battery compartment.

Disposal

The products contain batteries and recyclable electronic waste.

To protect the environment, do not dispose of them in the household

waste, but take them to appropriate local collection points.

After each use of the lamp, rinse the head (with the body) under a stream of running water.

Charging

• The ambient temperature for charging, using, and storing the device may vary in the range from 15°C to 35°C. Temperatures outside this range may lead to

reduced battery life and accelerated wear of the device without damage.

• If the battery becomes unusable, it can be replaced at authorized service centers.

Switching On

To switch on the device (speed 1), press the On/Off button (4).

Press the button again to switch to speed 2.

Press it a third time to switch off the device.

Epilation

- During dry epilation, the skin must be dry and free of cream. - The device is suitable for wet epilation, even under running water.

It is better to exfoliate the skin for optimal gliding of the device during epilation. You can use a peeling glove.

On the epilation head (2), you can attach different attachments (1, 7, or 8, depending on the body area). Choose the attachment according to your needs.

The contact cap for the skin (1) ensures close contact with the skin on all body parts.

The massage attachment (7) can be used instead of the contact cap (1). It stimulates the skin and ensures a more comfortable epilation process.

Stretch the skin during epilation. Hold the device at the required angle (90°) relative to the skin and move it with slow, continuous movements against the direction of hair growth.

Epilation of legs. Epilate the legs from the bottom upwards. During epilation, hold the leg taut.

Before using the epilator, test it on a small area of skin to ensure compatibility. During repeated use, the sensation will diminish. Clean the epilator heads regularly to remove hair and debris. When using the epilator, stretch the skin taut and move the device in different directions for effective hair removal.

The cap is for those who use the device for the first time: it combines epilation and shaving for hair removal from the root. The cap is intended only for use on dry skin. During use of the cap, apply cream or gel to the shaved skin area.

In the initial period (the first few weeks), use the epilator with the cap once a week for epilation and shaving. Be especially careful when epilating sensitive skin to avoid injuries. Between uses, remove accumulated hair from the cap. After a few weeks, you will get used to hair removal and can switch to epilation with the help of the cap for contact with skin (1) or the massage cap (7). If you wish to continue using the cap, be sure to replace it after every 12 uses (or if you notice signs of wear, damage, or breakage).

Replacement caps (model 771WD) can be purchased at the same store where the device was purchased, as well as at Braun service centers or on the website www.service.braun.com.

Epilation tips

• If you have not used an epilator before or have not done epilation

During the initial period, your skin's adaptation to epilation may take some time. The discomfort you feel at the beginning will significantly decrease with repeated use, as the skin gets used to the process.

All methods of hair removal with the root part can lead to skin irritation (for example,

redness, discomfort, and skin reactions) depending on the condition of the skin and hair. This is a normal reaction that quickly passes, but it can be strong during the first few times of hair removal with the root part or in the case of sensitive skin. If the irritation does not go away after a few hours, consult a doctor. Typically, skin reactions and pain significantly decrease with repeated use of the Silk-epil epilator. In some cases, skin inflammation may occur when bacteria come into contact with the skin (for example, when shaving against the skin). Regular cleaning of the epilator head before each use minimizes the risk of infection. In case of any doubts about using this device, consult a doctor. This device can be used only after consulting a doctor in the following cases: eczema, skin infections such as folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles), varicose veins, moles, reduced skin immunity, for example, in diabetes, during pregnancy, in case of blood diseases, hemophilia, immunodeficiency, or candidiasis.

The tweezers are designed for precise and gentle hair removal from the roots, including from the bikini line. For contouring and trimming hair up to 5 mm, a trimming attachment is available. Use the tweezers on dry skin only.

How to use

The tweezers are designed for removing individual hairs on the face (e.g., eyebrows). They are ready for use as they contain batteries. Remove the protective cap before use (10a).

To switch on, press the on/off button on the front (10b). Stretch the skin in the direction of hair growth. Do not use the tweezers for removing hairs that grow from moles.

Replacing the batteries (10c).

1. Use a small coin to unscrew the battery cap (turn counterclockwise). 2. Carefully remove the used batteries and insert two new batteries (type LR 41) with the «-» polarity facing up. Then close the cap, turning it clockwise until it stops.

Disposal

The product contains batteries and/or electronic waste, which must be recycled properly.

For environmental protection, do not dispose of it with household waste. Disposal can be carried out at collection points for electronic waste in your country.
