Frequently Asked Questions - KHF 4217 AEG

How to charge the AEG KHF 4217 headset?
Place the headset (turned off, ON/OFF button on OFF) in the charging station of the transmitter. The charging contacts must be in contact. The CHG indicator turns red during charging and green when finished. The first charge takes approximately 12 hours, subsequent charges about 9 hours.
Can the headset be used with a cable?
Yes, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF and the WL/OFF button to OFF. Connect an external audio source to the 3.5 mm jack socket of the headset. Volume control is then done from the source.
How to improve wireless reception?
Check that the transmitter and headset are on the same channel. Use the SCAN button on the headset to search for the signal. Move away from sources of interference (cordless phones, microwaves) and stay within 80 meters in open area.
What batteries to use in the headset?
Use only Ni-MH rechargeable batteries AAA type 1.2 V (supplied). Never use normal alkaline batteries, as they cannot be recharged and may damage the device.
How to clean the AEG KHF 4217 headset?
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surfaces. Do not use chemical or abrasive products. Avoid moisture entering the openings.
What to do if the sound is bad or distorted?
Check the distance to the transmitter, change the channel with the selector (15) on the transmitter and press SCAN on the headset. Make sure the batteries are charged. Increase the volume of the audio source to avoid too weak a signal.
The headset does not turn on, why?
Check that the ON/OFF switch is on ON and the WL/OFF button is on WL (wireless mode). Make sure the batteries are correctly inserted and charged. If the indicator does not light up, check the battery contacts.
How many radio channels does the transmitter have?
The transmitter has 3 channels selectable via the button (15). To change the headset channel, press the SCAN button until you hear the sound.
The transmitter turns off by itself, how to fix it?
The transmitter has an Auto-Off function: it turns off after about 1 minute if the audio signal is very weak or absent. Increase the volume of the audio source or check the connection cable.
How to dispose of the headset at the end of its life?
Do not dispose of the device with household waste. Take it to a collection point for electronic waste or bring it back to your retailer. Used batteries must be recycled separately.

  1. Push the ON/OFF switch (9) to the OFF position.

Place the headphones in the charging cradle of the transmitter. When charging, the CHG indicator light (12) lights up red.

NOTE:

  • Please ensure,

  • That the charging contacts of the headphones are connected to the charging contacts in the transmitter.

  • that the headphones are switched off during the charging process.

  • Make sure the headphones rest correctly in the charging station, if

  • the CHG indicator light flashes alternately red/green and then lights up green.

  • the CHG indicator light immediately lights up green.

In both cases the charging contacts of the headphones are not connected to the charging contacts of the charging station.

  1. Remove the headphones again when the charging process is complete. The indicator light CHG then lights up green.

Use of the Headphones

You have two options to use the headphones: Wireless or with a cable.

i NOTE:

If the headphones are removed from the charging station, the CHG indicator light (12) briefly flashes alternately red/green and then green.

Wireless use

  1. Switch on the audio source (e.g. television set, CD or DVD player). Set the volume of the audio source to a pleasant level in order to avoid any distortion.
  2. Using the channel selector (15) to set the transmitter to channel 2 (CHANNEL 2).
  3. Turn on the headphones by moving the ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The indicator light (6) lights up red.

NOTE:

If no batteries are inserted or the WL/OFF switch (4) has been switched to OFF the headphones will not switch on.

  1. Place the headphones on your head. Turn the volume regulator (3) to set the desired volume.
  2. If necessary, press the SCAN channel selection button (2) repeatedly until the transmission frequency is adjusted to channel 2 and the sound of the audio source can be heard. If the headphones receive a signal, the indicator light (6) lights up green.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The transmitter has an AUTO-off function. If the input signal is very quiet or switched off, the transmitter will switch off automatically after approx. 1 min. The POWER indicator light (11) switches off.

Channel Adjustment

If there is interference to the reception of the headphones, you can change the transmission frequency by switching the channels. With the channel selector (15) on the transmitter you can choose between 3 different channels. If you have set a different transmission frequency, press the SCAN channel selection button (2). When receiving, the indicator light (6) lights up green.

i NOTE:

After pressing the SCAN button, the headphones switch their reception frequency in ascending order of channels.

Switching Off

In order to switch the headphones off, move the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position.

I NOTE:

After turning the headphones back on, CHANNEL 2 is automatically set as the reception frequency.

Use with cable

To use the headphones with a cable, you must be close to an audio source and take into account the length of the cable.

  1. Move the ON/OFF switch (9) to the OFF position to save battery power.
  2. Set the WL/OFF mode switch (4) to OFF.
  3. Connect the external audio source to the 3.5mm stereo TRS connector AUDIO jack (5) on the headphones using the correct adapter cable.
  4. Adjust the volume on the audio source.

i NOTE:

  • The volume control (3) on the headphones does not function in this mode.
The transmitter/charging station does not need to be switched on in this mode.

Troubleshooting

Poor or fuzzy sound

  • Have you changed the channel? Press the SCAN channel selection button (2) in order to obtain the best reception.
  • Check the distance to the transmitter. Walls and ceilings reduce the range.
  • Are the batteries charged up?
  • There may be interference from other radio emitting equipment such as cordless telephones, mobile telephones or CB radio.

No headache reception

  • Are all the components switched on?
Is the ON/OFF switch (9) in the ON position?
Is the mode switch WL/OFF (4) set to WL?
  • Are all the electrical connections correct?
  • Have the batteries been inserted?
Is the sound source switched on and is a sound signal being transmitted? The POWER LED (11) only lights up when the transmitter is receiving an audio signal.
  • Is there still no reception despite having checked all the points above? Transmitter may be blocked, may "hang". Disconnect the power supply from the mains for about 5 sec. Then switch the device back on.

Mono sound

  • Are you receiving only a mono signal? Turn the audio source to stereo.

Interference

  • Turn the switch (15) to another channel. Press the SCAN channel selection button (2) repeatedly until the sound of the audio source can be heard.

AUTO OFF function

  • The transmitter has an AUTO-off function. If the input signal is very quiet or switched off for approx. 1 min., the transmitter switches off automatically. Turn up the sound of the audio source or check whether an audio signal is still being transmitted.
