Use

The hood is designed to be used either for exhausting or filter version.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - Use - 1

Ducting version

In this case the fumes are conveyed outside of the building by means of a special pipe connected with the connection ring located on top of the hood.

Attention! The exhausting pipe is not supplied and must be purchased apart.

Diameter of the exhausting pipe must be equal to that of the connection ring.

In the horizontal runs the exhausting pipe must be slightly slanted (about 10°) and directed upwards to vent the air easily from the room to the outside.

Attention! If the hood is supplied with an active charcoal filter, it must be removed.

Connect the hood and the discharge holes on the walls with a diameter equivalent to the air outlet (connection flange).

Using tubes and discharge holes on walls with smaller dimensions will cause a reduction in suction performance and a drastic increase in noise.

Any responsibility in this matter is therefore declined.

Use a duct of the minimum indispensable length. Use a duct with as few elbows as possible (maximum elbow angle: 90°). Avoid drastic changes in the duct cross-section. Use a duct as smooth as possible inside. The duct must be made of certified material.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - Ducting version - 1

Filter version

One active charcoal filter is needed for this and can be obtained from your usual retailer.

The filter removes the grease and smells from the extracted air before sending it back into the room through the upper outlet grid.

The models with no suction motor only operate in ducting mode, and must be connected to an external suction device (not supplied).

The connecting instructions are supplied with the peripheral suction unit.

Installation

The minimum distance between the supporting surface for the cooking equipment on the hob and the lowest part of the range hood must be not less than 50 cm from electric cookers and 65 cm from gas or mixed cookers.

If the instructions for installation for the gas hob specify a greater distance, this must be adhered to.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - Installation - 1

Electrical connection

The mains power supply must correspond to the rating indicated on the plate situated inside the hood. If provided with a plug, connect the hood to a socket in compliance with current regulations and positioned in an accessible area, after installation. If it is not fitted with a plug (direct mains connection) or if the plug is not located in an accessible area, after installation, apply a double pole switch in accordance with standards which assures the complete disconnection of the mains under conditions relating to over-current category III, in accordance with installation instructions.

Warning! Before re-connecting the hood circuit to the mains supply and checking the efficient function, always check that the mains cable is correctly assembled.

The hood is provided with a special power cable; if the cable is damaged, request a new one from Technical Service.

Mounting

Before beginning installation:

  • Check that the product purchased is of a suitable size for the chosen installation area.
  • Remove the charcoal (*) filter/s if supplied (see also relative paragraph). This/these is/are to be mounted only if you want to use the hood in the filtering version.
  • Check (for transport reasons) that there is no other supplied material inside the hood (e.g. packets with screws, guarantees, etc.), eventually removing them and keeping them.
  • If possible, disconnect and move freestanding or slide-in range from cabinet opening to provide easier access to rear wall/ceiling. Otherwise put a thick, protective covering over countertop, cooktop or range to protect from damage and debris. Select a flat surface for assembling the unit. Cover that surface with a protective covering and place all canopy hood parts and hardware in it.
  • In addition check whether near the installation area of the hood (in the area accessible also with the hood mounted) an electric socket is available and it is possible to connect a fumes discharge device to the outside (only suction version).
  • Carry out all the masonry work necessary (e.g. installation of an electric socket and/or a hole for the passage of the discharge tube).

Expansion wall plugs are provided to secure the hood to most types of walls/ceilings. However, a qualified technician must verify suitability of the materials in accordance with the type of wall/ceiling. The wall/ceiling must be strong enough to take the weight of the hood. Do not tile, grout or silicone this appliance to the wall. Surface mounting only.

Grease filter

Fig. 11-28

Traps cooking grease particles.

This must be cleaned once a month (or when the filter saturation indication system - if envisaged on the model in possession - indicates this necessity) using non aggressive detergents, either by hand or in the dishwasher, which must be set to a low temperature and a short cycle.

When washed in a dishwasher, the grease filter may discolour slightly, but this does not affect its filtering capacity.

To remove the grease filter, pull the spring release handle.

Charcoal filter (filter version only)

Fig. 27

It absorbs unpleasant odours caused by cooking.

The activated charcoal filter can be one of these types:

  • Washable activated charcoal filter.
  • NON-washable activated charcoal filter.

Washable activated charcoal filter

The charcoal filter can be washed once every two months using hot water and a suitable detergent, or in a dishwasher at 65°C (if the dishwasher is used, select the full cycle function and leave dishes out).

Eliminate excess water without damaging the filter, then remove the mattress located inside the plastic frame and put it in the oven for 10 minutes at 100°C to dry completely. Replace the mattress every 3 years and when the cloth is damaged.

Non-washable activated charcoal filter

The saturation of the charcoal filter occurs after more or less prolonged use, depending on the type of cooking and the regularity of cleaning of the grease filter.

In any case it is necessary to replace the cartridge at least every four months.

The charcoal filter may NOT be washed or regenerated.

Assembly

Hook the charcoal filter at the back on the metal tongue of the hood first, then on the front with the two knobs.

Disassembly

Remove the charcoal filter by turning the knobs fixing it to the hood by 90°.

WARNING! Improper installation of the hood and fixing mechanisms, not in accordance with these instructions, may lead to risks of electric shock.

Use

The hood is designed for suction: it extracts odors and filters the air, while simultaneously recycling it.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - Use - 1

It is extracted

The air is extracted outdoors through a duct connected to the connection flange.

The diameter of the duct must match the diameter of the connection ring.

Warning! The exhaust duct is not included in the package and must be purchased separately.

The horizontal duct must be slightly inclined upward (about 10°) to facilitate air evacuation. If the aspirator is equipped with an active carbon filter, the exhaust duct must be removed.

Connect the aspirator to the exhaust duct and to the wall openings. The diameter of the ducts must correspond to the diameter of the connection ring for air evacuation.

Connecting to the exhaust duct and openings with a smaller diameter will reduce the performance of the aspirator and significantly increase noise during operation.

In these cases, the manufacturer assumes no responsibility.

Use ducts with the necessary cross-section. Use ducts with as few bends as possible (maximum number of bends: 90°). Do not sharply change the direction of the ducts! Use ducts with as smooth an inner surface as possible. The material from which the ducts are made must comply with the applicable standards.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - It is extracted - 1

Filter version

The aspirated air is filtered and returned to the room. To use the aspirator in this operating mode, you must install a filter system based on an active carbon filter.

Models without an aspirating motor are designed to work only in the aspirating version and must be connected to a central aspirating unit, which is purchased separately.

Connection instructions are provided with the central aspirating unit.

Installation

The minimum distance between the surface on which the cooking appliances are placed and the lowest part of the kitchen aspirator must be no less than 50 cm in the case of electric cookers and no less than 65 cm in the case of gas or combined cookers.

If the instructions for the gas cooker specify a greater distance, this must be respected.

ELICA SPOT PLUS - Installation - 1

Electrical connection

The voltage in the electrical network must correspond to the voltage indicated on the aspirator's rating plate, located on its inner side. If the aspirator is equipped with a plug, connect it to a socket that complies with the applicable standards, placed in an easily accessible position for disconnecting the appliance. If it is not equipped with a plug (direct connection to the network), use a double-pole switch that complies with the standards, ensuring complete disconnection from the network in case of overvoltage category III, in accordance with the installation rules.

Warning! Before connecting the aspirator to the mains, check that the power supply is correct and that the cable is in good condition.

The aspirator is supplied with a power cable; if the cable is damaged, contact the warranty service to have it replaced.

INSTALLATION

Before starting installation:

  • Make sure that the product you have purchased corresponds to the dimensions of the chosen installation location. Remove the filter/filters from the packaging (if the model you have chosen is equipped with them). To do this, follow the instructions in the relevant paragraph. Install the filters only if you intend to use the aspirator in the filtered version.
  • Make sure that during transport the internal parts of the aspirator have not been damaged by any objects, such as screws, brackets, etc.; if you find any, remove them and store them. If possible, disassemble the furniture or appliances that are in the immediate vicinity of the place where you intend to install the aspirator. This will give you better access to the installation area. Otherwise, be careful not to damage the furniture or other items during installation. Choose a flat surface and cover it with protective material, on which to place the aspirator and its accessories.
  • Make sure that near the place where you intend to install the aspirator there is an easily accessible socket and that it is possible to connect the plug (for the aspirator versions).
  • Perform all necessary operations, for example: install the electrical contacts and make the hole for the passage of the exhaust pipe. The aspirator is equipped with fixing accessories suitable for the most common types of walls and ceilings.

For all this, we recommend that you consult a qualified technician to ensure that the accessories are suitable for the installation. The wall or ceiling must be strong enough to support the weight of the aspirator.

Replacing the bulbs

The hood is equipped with a lighting system with LEDs.

The LEDs guarantee optimal lighting, up to 10 times more powerful than traditional bulbs, and allow 90% energy savings.

For replacement, contact the technical service.

Do not leave children unattended so they do not play with the appliance.

Do not use the hood if the grille is not correctly installed!

It is categorically forbidden to use the hood as a support surface unless specifically stated otherwise.

Ensure proper air exchange in the room when using the hood simultaneously with other gas appliances or other burners.

The extracted air must not be discharged through a duct used for exhausting fumes from appliances burning gas or other fuels. It is categorically forbidden to cook over open flames, as the open flame can damage the filters and pose a fire hazard; therefore, refrain from this in any case.

Frying in large quantities of oil must be done under constant supervision, keeping in mind that overheated oil can ignite.

Attention! The exhaust pipe is not included in the package and must be purchased separately.

In the horizontal part, the pipe should be slightly inclined upwards (approximately 10 degrees) so that air can exit faster. If the hood is equipped with a charcoal filter, remove it

Connect the hood to the exhaust pipe with a diameter corresponding to the air outlet opening (connecting flange).

Installing pipes with a smaller diameter will reduce the suction power of the air and sharply increase the noise level.

The manufacturer is not responsible for any damage resulting from improper installation or use.

Use a pipe with the minimum necessary length. Use a pipe with the minimum number of bends (maximum bend angle: 90 degrees) and avoid sharp changes in the pipe cross-section. The inner surface of the pipe used should be as smooth as possible. The pipe material must comply with standards.

Installation instructions

Hood models without a motor unit can operate in the mode of extracting air to the outside, so they must be connected to an external exhaust system (not included in the delivery).

Instructions for connection are supplied with the exhaust unit.

Installation

The distance between the hob and the hood must be at least 50 cm for electric hobs, and at least 65 cm for gas or combination hobs.

If the gas hob installation instructions specify a greater distance, take that into account.

Electrical connection

The mains voltage must match the voltage indicated on the technical data plate, which is located inside the appliance. If the power cable is fitted with a plug, connect the plug to a suitable socket. It must be positioned in an accessible place according to current regulations. You can plug it in after installation. If the plug is not fitted (direct connection to the mains), install a double-pole switch in an accessible place, even after installation, that ensures complete disconnection from the mains under overvoltage category III conditions, in accordance with installation instructions.

Warning! Before connecting the extraction system to the power supply, check that it is functioning correctly and make sure the power cable is properly installed.

The hood has a special power cable; if the cable is damaged, it must be ordered from the technical service department.

Intensive speed is set with a default time of 5 minutes; to turn off the hood for a given timer and switch off the hood, press button 1.

Note: The speed may increase automatically during use, as the control is equipped with a system that activates in case of overheating.

Clock/Hours

Installation:

  • Set the clock 3 hours before using the indicator

(b) In the "CLOCK"/"HOURS" function

  • Press button 4 to enter the clock setting function
  • Press and hold button 4:

Each single press increases the time by one minute

After 10 seconds, each subsequent press increases the time by 10 minutes

Before starting the installation:

  • Check the size of the recommended test sample to ensure it matches the installation location. Remove the filter/cap from the inlet/outlet (if applicable). The filter/cap will be reinstalled later if you do not want to use the cover in recirculation mode.
  • Check that the inside of the cover is not contaminated with materials placed there during transportation (e.g., packaging with magazines, warranty documents, etc.). If so, remove and store them. If possible, remove and store any furniture, shelves, or items under and around the cover to ensure proper access to the wall/ceiling where the cover will be attached. If it is not possible to move furniture or other items, protect them during installation. Choose a level surface, cover it with protective material, and place the cover and mounting parts on it. Also check the installation area of the cover (in the area accessible after installation) for the presence of a power outlet and an opening for the exhaust pipe, which will be used for ventilation (only in exhaust mode). Perform all necessary works (e.g., installation of the power outlet and/or making the opening for the exhaust pipe).

The kit includes mounting parts designed for most types of walls/ceilings. However, it is necessary to consult a qualified technician to verify the suitability of the materials depending on the type of wall or ceiling. The wall/ceiling must be strong enough to support the weight of the appliance.

Operation

Use the intensive mode when cooking with high concentrations of kitchen fumes. We recommend turning on the hood 5 minutes before starting to cook and leaving it on for 15 minutes after finishing cooking.
