1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 General electrical machine safety warnings
WARNING! Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this machine. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
■ Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "machine" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) machine or battery-operated (cordless) machine.
1.1.1 Work area safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate machines in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Ma-
chines create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a machine. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
1.1.2 Electrical safety
■ Machine plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) machines. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose machines to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a machine will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the machine. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating a machine outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a machine in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
1.1.3 Personal safety
■ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a machine. Do not use a machine while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating machines may result in serious personal injury.
■ Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
■ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the machine.
Carrying machines with your finger on the switch or energising machines that have the switch on invites accidents.
■ Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the machine on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the machine may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the machine in unexpected situations.
■ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of machines allow you to become complacent and ignore machine safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
1.1.4 Electrical machine use and care
- Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine for your application. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any machine that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
■ Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the machine before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing machines. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the machine accidentally.
■ Store idle machines out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the machine or these instructions to operate the machine. Machines are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. - Maintain machines and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the machine's operation. If damaged, have the
machine repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained machines.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
Use the machine, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the machine for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. - Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the machine in unexpected situations.
1.1.5 Battery machine use and care
■ Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
■ Use machines only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
- When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
■ Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
- Do not use a battery pack or machine that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
- Do not expose a battery pack or machine to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C may cause explosion.
■ Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or machine
outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
1.1.6 Service
- Have your machine serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the machine is maintained.
■ Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.
1.2 Garden blower, garden vacuum and garden blower/vacuum safety warnings
(a) Do not use the machine in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.
(b) Thoroughly inspect the area for wildlife where the machine is to be used. Wildlife may be injured by the machine during operation.
(c) Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects that can ricochet, be thrown, or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation. Thrown objects can increase the risk of personal injury.
(d) Wear eye protection and ear protection. Adequate protective equipment will reduce the risk of personal injury.
(e) While operating the machine, always wear non-slip and protective footwear. Do not operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals. This reduces the risk of injury to the feet.
(f) While operating the machine, always wear long trousers. Exposed skin increases the risk of injury from debris.
(g) Do not wear loose fitting clothing or articles such as scarves, strings, chains, ties, etc., that could get drawn into the air inlets. Tie back or cover long hair to make sure it does not get drawn into the air inlets. If any of these items are drawn into the air inlets, it can increase the risk of personal injury.
(h) Keep bystanders away while operating the machine. Thrown debris can increase the risk of personal injury.
(i) Never point the blower nozzle in the direction of people or pets or in the direction of windows. Use extra caution when blowing debris near solid objects, such as trees, automobiles and walls that can cause debris to ricochet. Thrown objects can damage property and increase the risk of personal injury.
(j) Do not use the machine to blow anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes. These ignition sources may increase the risk of fire.
(k) Do not touch the fan while still in motion. Turn off the machine, wait until the fan stops and unplug the machine, before removing any part that may give access to the fan. This reduces the risk of injury from moving parts.
(I) When clearing jammed material or servicing the machine, make sure the switch is off. Unexpected starting of the machine while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.
1.3 Vibration load
WARNING! Danger due to vibration. The actual magnitude of the vibration emissions during the use of the appliance may deviate from that stated by the manufacturer. Observe the following influencing factors before or during use:
Is the appliance being used as intended?
Is the material being processed in the proper manner?
Is the appliance in a proper condition of use?
The noise and vibrations of the appliance can increase due to improper use and maintenance. This leads to damage of the health. In this case, immediately switch off the appliance and have it repaired by an authorised service workshop.
The degree of stress due to vibration depends on the work to be performed or on the use that the appliance is put to. Estimate the stress and plan appropriate work breaks. This considerably reduces stress due to vibration over the entire working time.
■ Extensive use of the appliance exposes the operator to vibrations, which can lead to circulatory issues ("white fingers"). To avoid this risk, wear gloves and keep your hands warm. If any symptoms of "white fingers" occur, immediately consult a physician. These symptoms include: Numbness, loss of feeling, tingling, itching, pain, reduced muscular
strength, changes in the colour or condition of the skin. Normally these conditions affect the fingers, hands or pulse. The risk increases at low temperatures.
Take long breaks during your working day so you can recover from the noise and the vibrations. Plan your work in such a way that the use of appliances that generate strong vibrations is spread over several days.
If you notice an unpleasant sensation or discoloration of the skin on your hands when using the appliance, stop work immediately. Take sufficient work breaks. Without sufficient breaks, a hand/arm vibration syndrome can occur.
- Minimise your risk of being exposed to vibrations. Maintain the appliance according to the instructions in the operating instructions.
If the appliance is used frequently, contact your dealer to purchase anti-vibration accessories (e.g. handles).
- Avoid working with the appliance at temperatures below 10 °C. Define how the vibration load can be limited in a work plan.
1.4 Noise pollution
A certain level of noise exposure from this appliance is inevitable. Carry out noisy work at approved and specified time periods.

13 TECHNICAL DATA
Technical data: see table of technical data at the beginning of these operating instructions.
* Notes on vibration emission and noise emission values:
The vibration emission and noise emission values given were measured according to a
standardised test method and can be used to compare one machine with another.
The vibration emission and noise emission values given can also be used for an initial assessment of the exposure (vibration exposure level).
The vibration emission and noise emission values may differ from the given values during actual use of the machine, depending on how the machine is used.
- Observe the safety precautions in the Safety chapter. Try to keep the vibration load as low as possible. Exemplary measures for reducing the vibration load are the wearing of gloves when using the machine and limitation of the working time. All parts of the operating cycle must be taken into account (e.g. times when the machine is switched off and those in which it is switched on but is running without load).
