When the icon stops flashing and remains steady, the appliance is ready to brew coffee. The extraction process will take about 41 seconds.
E Cold Espresso coffee: to prepare a cold Espresso, add ice cubes to the water tank and press the Espresso Coolicon. The extraction process will take about 19 seconds. For best results, always use cold water.
F Steam: the milk froth is extracted by the steam. This is a process that consists of using the steamer to emulsify the milk by mixing air or steam to obtain a creamy texture at the same time as heating it. However, mastering this technique requires patience and practice.
3.1 Steamer
- Determine the amount of milk needed based on the number of cups to be prepared.
Tip: please note that when the milk is frothed, its volume and density will increase considerably.
-
Fill a stainless steel jug one-third full with cold milk.
-
Activate the steam function by pressing the steam icon. The corresponding icon will stop flashing and will remain steady when the preheating process is finished, and the appliance is ready for use.
-
Before frothing milk, purge the steamer to remove any remaining condensed water. To do this, activate the hot water outlet by slowly turning the steam knob to the ON position. Once the steamer has been purged, stop the water outlet by turning the steam knob to the OFF position.
-
Move the steamer slightly to one side of the coffee machine so that it is easier to froth milk.
-
Insert the steamer through the side of the jug approximately 1 cm deep into the milk and, at the same time, activate the steam function by turning the knob to the ON position.
-
Tilt the jug slightly forward so that the steamer touches the wall of the jug and move it away until the steamer is in contact with the surface of the milk. This will cause a layer of froth to form on the surface of the milk.
Note: do not let the steamer come out unevenly, otherwise the milk will start to bubble and will not froth properly. In case this happens, insert the steamer deeper into the milk.
-
As the steam heats and froths the milk, its volume will increase. When this happens, follow the level of the froth by slightly lowering the jug and always try to keep the steamer in contact with the surface of the milk, without touching the bottom of the jug.
-
Once you have achieved the desired amount of froth, insert the steamer into the bottom of the jug to ensure that the milk reaches the correct temperature.
Tip: the amount of froth required will vary depending on the type of coffee you wish to prepare. For example, a cappuccino needs more froth than a latte.
- Stop the steam outlet by turning the knob to the OFF position.
ENGLISHENGLISH
Note: do not boil the milk.
- Remove the jug, wipe the steamer with a damp cloth and purge it with a steam shot to remove any residue.
Note: the steam outlet nozzle should be cleaned with a damp sponge immediately after steam stops coming out but be careful not to burn yourself.
- To switch off the coffee machine, press the power icon. All icons on the display will turn off.
Note: if you wish to prepare coffee immediately after steaming, you must first dispense water to allow the machine to cool down.
3.2 Brewing with ground coffee
- Make sure that the appliance is switched off and disconnected from the mains.
- Remove the water tank by pulling from it upwards.
- Fill the water tank with fresh water. Do not exceed the MAX. fill level line.
- Replace the water tank and make sure it is securely in place.
- Place the filter inside the portafilter. Fig. 3
- Fill the filter with ground espresso using the measuring spoon provided. Apart from the type of coffee used and the coffee grind, the key to a quality espresso is to distribute and press it evenly in the filter with the tamper. It must also be ensured that the filter is always clean and free of coffee residues. Fig. 4
- Insert the portafilter into the machine head. Turn the portafilter handle slightly to the left and then turn it to the right to the lock position. Make sure that the portafilter is securely in place and tilted slightly to the right. Fig. 5
B. Place one or two pre-heated cups under the coffee spout. - Plug the appliance into a mains socket, press the power icon, the other icons will light up.
- Once the machine has finished preheating, select one of the options (Espresso, Double, Americano, Cold Espresso) depending on the type of coffee you want to prepare and wait a few seconds until the coffee comes out.
- The extraction process will take about 25 seconds and, if no operation is performed during this time, the machine will stop automatically.
- Once the brewing process has finished, press the power icon to switch off the appliance, all the icons on the display will switch off.
- Remove the portafilter by turning it clockwise and then, remove the filter.
- Allow the accessories to cool completely before washing them under running water.
Note:
- If the grind is too fine, the coffee will be over-extracted, resulting in a bitter coffee, with an irregular, spotty crema.
- If the grind is too coarse, water will quickly pass through the ground coffee without being properly extracted, resulting in coffee with little crema.
- If necessary, add more ground coffee to fill the filter and re-press the ground coffee with the tamper.
- Wipe any coffee residue from the rim of the portafilter to ensure that it is securely attached to the appliance head to prevent leakage.
- The pressing of ground coffee is a crucial part of the espresso preparation process. If pressed evenly and consistently, the espresso will be extracted slowly and more crema will be produced. If not pressed compactly, the espresso will be extracted more quickly, and less crema will be formed.
- A perfect extraction will result in a dark, hazelnut-coloured coffee with reddish hues.
- After preparing a hot espresso, allow the machine to cool down for 15 minutes before preparing a cold espresso.
- To do this, activate the steam function by pressing the steam icon and turning the steam knob to the ON position to dispense water through the steamer and cool the coffee machine. Once the machine has cooled down, turn off the steam function and turn the steam knob to the OFF position so that no more water comes out and the machine can be used to prepare coffee again.
3.3 Hot water function
Press and hold the steam icon for 3 seconds to make the coffee machine dispense hot water through the steamer.
Cooling function
The coffee machine reaches very high temperatures after frothing milk or dispensing hot water, which means that the machine must first be cooled down before it can be used to make coffee again. Otherwise, coffee could splash out and cause burns. Once the appliance has cooled down, you can use it again to prepare coffee.
Press the steam icon to deactivate the steam function. Then, turn the steam knob to the ON position to dispense water through the steamer and cool down the appliance. Once the machine has cooled down, turn the steam knob to the OFF position so that no more water comes out and the machine can be used to prepare coffee again.
4. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Before cleaning the appliance, switch it off and unplug it from the wall socket. Do not immerse the machine in water or any other liquid. To clean it, simply wipe it with a clean, damp cloth and dry it before storing it.
