Please read these instructions carefully and thoroughly before using this appliance and keep them for future reference. It is very important that you understand how to use this appliance safely so please take the time to familiarise yourself with the requirements as outlined in these instructions.

  • If you are in any doubt what so ever about using this appliance, we strongly recommend that you employ the services of a suitably qualified person.
  • Electrical connection must be protected by a residual current device (RCD) at the power socket with a nominal trip current of 30mA (max).
  • Keep children and pets well away from the work area and never allow children to use this appliance or touch the extension cord at any time. When not in use, keep this appliance stored in a safe place out of reach of children.
  • Never leave the appliance unattended when in use.

  • Never pull the appliance by its power cord. Carry it using the carry handle.

  • Do not allow the power cord to lay on or across sharp objects that might pierce the outer insulation. Carry out a visual inspection of the power cord before use and if it is damaged, have it replaced by a specialist service centre. Do not use the appliance if the cord is damaged.
  • Keep the power cord away from heat, frost, oil, solvents or any sharp objects or edges.
  • Electrical connections e.g. extension cable, must be protected from moisture at all times.
  • Check that the power rating on your appliance corresponds with the power rating at you mains supply.
  • Never run this appliance dry - out of the water. If the appliance overheats, the thermal cut-out will switch it off. If this happens wait 5 minutes before using the appliance again.
  • Always have the appliance switched off before placing it in or removing it from the water. Only switch on with dry hands.
  • Never use this appliance in a pond or swimming pool while people are present in the water!
  • Do not use the pump for drinking water.
  • Corrosive, flammable or explosive substances, grease, oil, salt water and sewage must not be conveyed by the pump.
  • The pH of water must between 6.5 and 8.5.
  • The temperature of the liquid conveyed may not exceed 35 °C.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR BATTERY

a) Do not open the battery. Danger of short-circuiting.

b) Protect the battery against heat, e. g., against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. Danger of explosion.

c) In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Ventilate the area and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system.

d) Use the battery only in conjunction with your Vonroc product. This measure alone protects the battery against dangerous overload.

e) The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit can occur and the battery can burn, smoke, explode or overheat.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR CHARGER

Intended use

Charge only CD822AA type rechargeable Battery packs with the charger. Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage.

a) The appliance is not to be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.
b) Children being supervised not to play with the appliance.
c) Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries!
d) During charging, batteries must be placed in the well ventilated area!

Electrical safety

Always check that the voltage of the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

  • Do not use the machine if the mains cable or the mains plug is damaged.
  • Only use extension cables that are suitable for the power rating of the machine with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm ^2 . If you use an extension cable reel, always fully unroll the cable.

2. MACHINE INFORMATION

The rain barrel pump is intended for private use for irrigation of gardens, it is not intended for commercial use. Explosive, corrosive, flammable substances, sewage, salt water, grease and oil must not be conveyed by the pump.

It is solely intended for pumping clear and rain water. The particle sizes of the solids in the water must not exceed the maximum particle size specified in the technical data.

This pump is not designed for continuous operation (e.g. as a swimming pool or pond circulation pump) or for stationary installations (e.g. lifting device, fountain pump).

3. ASSEMBLY

Before any work on the power tool, remove the battery.

The battery must be charged before first use.

Assembling the rain barrel pump (Fig. A, B, C)

  1. Screw the extension part (7) on the water outlet (6).
  2. Screw the upper pipe (8) on the extension part (7).
  3. Wind the cable and bind it, as shown on figure C.

Ensure that the exterior of the battery is clean and dry before connecting to the charger or machine.

  1. Insert the battery (16) into the machine as shown in Fig. D-1.
  2. Push the battery further forward until it clicks into place.

Checking the battery charging status (Fig. A)

  • To check the battery charge status, press the on/off switch (3) into the “ON/1” position to start the pump.
  • The control unit has 4 lights indicating the charge level, the more lights that burn, the more charge the battery has left.
  • When the lights are not burning it means the battery is empty and must be charged immediately.
  • Press the on/off switch (3) into the “OFF/0” position to stop the pump.

Removing the battery from the machine (Fig. D-1)

  1. Push the battery unlock button (17).
  2. Pull the battery (16) out of the machine.

When the machine is not being used over a longer period of time it is best to store the battery in charged condition.

  1. Take the battery (16) from the machine.
  2. Plug the charger (18) plug into an electrical outlet.
  3. Plug the output of the charger (18) into the round socket of the battery (16) as shown in Fig. D-2.
  4. The LED indicator on the charger will lighten up and show the charger status.

  1. Fully charging the 2.0Ah battery (16) may take up to 2.5 hours.
  2. After the battery (16) is fully charged remove the charger (18) plug from the outlet and remove the battery (16) from the charger (18).

4. OPERATION

Never use this pump in a pond or swimming pool while people are present in the water!

Always have the pump switched off before placing it in or removing it from the water. Only switch the power back on with dry hands.

Never run this pump dry - out of the water. If no more water can be pumped, a dry-run protection feature switches off the pump automatically.

Clean the filter (15) and filter cover (4) at regular intervals, and check it for damage. Otherwise, its function can be impaired.

Manual operation (Fig. A, E)

  1. Connect quick coupler of the garden hose (not included) to the hose connector (14).
  2. Lower the pump into the rain barrel. If necessary, fix the rain barrel pump with the included clamp (9) on the rain barrel, as shown on figure E. Tighten the screws with a suitable hex key (not included) hand tight on the rain barrel.
  3. When the water level is low, it would be advisable to stand the pump on a solid platform at the bottom to keep it upright, if practical to do so. Ensure there are no obstructions around the inlet openings around the base (4) of the pump. The inlet openings must be clear of mud or sludge at the bottom of a barrel.
  4. Press the power switch (3) into the "ON/1" position to start the pump. If no more water can be pumped, a dry-run protection feature switches off the pump automatically.
  5. After use, press the power switch (3) into the "OFF/O" position to stop the pump.
  6. Lift the pump back out of the water.

Adjusting the height of the pump (Fig. A)

You can adjust the height of the pump after loosening the locking knob of the upper pipe (8). Extend or retract the telescopic upper pipe (8) to the desired length and tighten the the locking knob of the upper pipe (8). Wind the cable and bind it, as shown on figure C.

Remove the extension part (Fig. A)

It is also possible to remove the extension part. Unscrew the extension part(7) from the water outlet (6) and the upper pipe (8) and remove the extension part (7). Screw the upper pipe (8) to the water outlet (6). Wind the cable and bind it, as shown on figure C.

Adjusting the water flow (Fig. A)

It is possible to set the water flow by using the regulator knob (13):

  • By turning anti-clockwise, the water flow will be increased.
  • By turning clockwise, the water flow will be reduced.

Dry-run protection (Fig. A)

If no more water can be pumped, a dry-run protection feature switches off the pump automatically. Pressing the power switch (3) into the “Off/0” position. Submerge the pump in water. Then restart the pump by pressing the power switch (3) into the “On/1” position.

Finish operation

After use allow the pump to run using clean water for 2 - 3 minutes in order to remove residues and particles that may have accumulated in the pump and outlet hose.

5. MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning and maintenance, always switch off the machine and remove the battery pack from the machine.

During maintenance or cleaning never rest the appliance of the on the turbine (impeller).

Clean the machine casings regularly with a soft cloth, preferably after each use. Remove very persistent dirt using a soft cloth moistened with soap-suds. Do not use any solvents such as gasoline, alcohol, ammonia, etc. Chemicals such as these will damage the synthetic components.

There are no user serviceable parts in this appliance. If the appliance appears to be blocked, switch off the power at the mains, remove the plug from the socket and check the appliance for blockage (see 'clean the filter' and 'blockages').

Clean the filter (A,F)

Clean the filter (15) at regular intervals, and check it for damage. Otherwise, its function can be impaired.

  1. Unscrew the filter cover (4) by turning counter clockwise and remove filter (15) as shown in Fig. F.
  2. Use a mild soap and water solution to clean the filter (15) and afterwards rinse with clean water.

  3. Re-install the filter (15) and the filter cover (4). Screw the filter cover (4) by turning clockwise

Always flush through with clean water after every use.

Blockages

If you suspect the pump has become blocked, switch off the power at the mains socket remove the plug and examine the turbine. The turbine can be accessed by removing the screws in the base.

STORAGE AND FROST POTECTION

The submersible pump and accessories that are not completely drained can be destroyed by frost. Completely drain the submersible pump and accessories and protect them against frost. Keep this appliance in well-ventilated dry premises with temperature not going below +5°C. When not in use, keep this appliance stored in a safe place out of reach of children.

Should the product develop any failure during this period due to defective material and/or workmanship then contact VONROC directly.

The following circumstances are excluded from this guarantee:

  • Repairs and or alterations have been made or attempted to the machine by unauthorized service centers;
  • Normal wear and tear;
  • The tool has been abused, misused or improperly maintained;
  • Non-original spare parts have been used.

This constitutes the sole warranty made by company either expressed or implied. There are no other warranties expressed or implied which extend beyond the face hereof, herein, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
