Frequently Asked Questions - UP-D55 SONY

How to install the ink ribbon on the UP-D55 printer?

Open the front cover, insert the supplied ink ribbon holder aligning the notches, then close the cover. Ensure the ribbon is taut. Consult the manual for more details.

What type of paper to use with the Sony UP-D55?

Use paper specifically for dye sublimation printing, usually sold in a kit with compatible Sony ink ribbon. Do not use ordinary paper.

What to do in case of paper jam?

Turn off the printer, open the cover, gently remove the jammed sheet by pulling slowly. Check that the paper is correctly loaded in the magazine. Refer to the manual for detailed instructions.

How to clean the print head?

Use a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol (90% or more) after turning off the device and unplugging the power cable. Gently rub the thermal head in a side-to-side motion. Let it dry before powering on.

Is the UP-D55 printer compatible with all operating systems?

It is compatible with Windows 98 SE, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP. For newer systems, check driver availability on the Sony website. The supplied CD-ROM contains the necessary drivers.

How to connect the printer to a computer?

Use the supplied USB cable (Type A to Type B). Connect the printer, install drivers from the CD-ROM, then restart the computer. The printer will be recognized automatically.

What is the lifespan of the ink ribbon?

The lifespan depends on the number of prints. On average, one ribbon allows printing about 100 to 200 full-size images. The printer indicator shows the remaining ribbon level.

Can I use the printer in a medical environment?

Yes, it is designed for medical use and complies with IEC 60601-1 standards. It must be grounded and used with approved equipment. Refer to the electromagnetic compatibility guidelines in the manual.

How to adjust the paper ejection stop?

Pull the stop located on the paper magazine until you hear a click to lock it in position. To retract it, pull again. Do not leave more than 10 ejected sheets to avoid jams.

Where can I find spare parts or accessories?

Before Using this Printer

The model and serial numbers are located at the rear. Record these numbers in the space provided below. Refer to these numbers whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product.

THIS APPARATUS MUST BE EARTHED.

To disconnect the main power, unplug the power plug. When installing the unit, incorporate a readily accessible disconnect device in the fixed wiring, or connect the power plug to an easily accessible socket-outlet near the unit. Do not position the ME equipment where it is difficult to unplug the power plug.

If a fault should occur during operation of the unit, operate the disconnect device to switch the power supply off, or unplug the power plug.

Important safeguards/notices for use in the medical environments

1. All the equipments connected to this unit shall be certified according to Standard IEC60601-1, IEC60950-1, IEC60065 or other IEC/ISO Standards applicable to the equipments.
2. Furthermore all configurations shall comply with the system standard IEC60601-1-1. Everybody who connects additional equipment to the signal input part or signal output part configures a medical system, and is therefore, responsible that the system complies with the requirements of the system standard IEC60601-1-1. If in doubt, consult the qualified service personnel.
3. The leakage current could increase when connected to other equipment.

How to use the paper eject stopper

To keep ejected printouts on the paper tray, pull the paper eject stopper on the paper tray out until it clicks.

Note

Do not leave more than 10 sheets of ejected printouts. Doing so may cause a paper jam.
