How to insert an SDS-max bit into the DH45MA hammer?

Ensure the switch is in the off position and disconnect the plug. Clean the shank of the bit and coat it with grease or oil. Pull the chuck ring back, insert the bit fully, then release the ring to lock. Check that the bit is securely held.

How to select the operating mode?

Use the selector lever on the tool. For hammer drilling, set it to IT (rotation and hammering). For chiseling only, set it to T (hammering only). Do not change mode while the motor is running.

How to replace the carbon brushes?

Set the switch to off and unplug. Loosen the two screws and remove the rear cover. Remove the brush cap and worn brush. Insert a new brush (same number) and tighten the cap firmly. Replace the rear cover. The brushes must slide freely in their holders.

How often should the grease be replaced?

After purchase, replace the grease every six months of use. Obtain specific grease from an authorized HiKOKI service center. The tool is sealed, but regular replacement ensures a long service life.

What accessories are included in the packaging?

The packaging contains: the main unit, a plastic case, a side handle, a depth stop, and a tube of hammer grease A. Standard accessories may be changed without notice.

How to install the side handle?

Attach the side handle to the tool body by sliding it onto the designated mounting area. Tighten the thumbscrew to lock it in position. The handle can be rotated 360° for optimal comfort. Always hold the tool firmly with both hands.

What is the maximum drilling diameter in concrete?

The maximum drilling diameter in concrete with a bit is 45 mm. With a core bit, the diameter can be larger. Refer to the specification table for exact values. Use suitable SDS-max bits.

How to use the depth stop?

Insert the depth stop into the hole at the front of the tool. Set the desired depth by sliding the stop and tighten the fixing screw. The stop limits the penetration of the bit for uniform hole depth.

What safety precautions should I take?

Always wear ear protectors, safety goggles, and a dust mask. Use the side handle. Hold the tool by insulated surfaces. Avoid touching the bit after use as it becomes very hot. Ensure no hidden cables before drilling.

How to warm up the tool in cold regions?

Place the tip of the bit against concrete, press the switch, and let the tool run idle for a few seconds. The lubrication system warms up. Hold the tool firmly with both hands. A normal operating sound indicates the tool is ready.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (cored) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit.

Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.

Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.

Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.

Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.

There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool.

Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.

Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles.

A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.

The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/ or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.

Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.

Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.

Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.

Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.

Use of the power tool for operations diff erent from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

5) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.

This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

PRECAUTION

When not in use, tools should be stored out of reach of children and infirm persons.

1. Mounting the tool
   To prevent accidents, make sure to turn the switch off and disconnect the plug from the receptacle.
2. When using tools such as bull points, drill bits, etc., make sure to use the genuine parts designated by our company.
   Clean the shank portion of the drill bit. Then smear the shank portion with the grease or machine oil.
3. The rotation speed cannot be changed by pressing the rotation speed selector switch while the motor is rotating. To change speeds, switch off the tool first.
   10.RCD

The use of a residual current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or less at all times is recommended.

1. Make sure to securely hold the tool as shown in Fig. 15 during operation.

ROTARY HAMMER SAFETY WARNINGS

1) Safety instructions for all operations a) Wear ear protectors

Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
b) Use auxiliary handle(s), if supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
c) Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.

Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.

2) Safety instructions when using long drill bits with rotary hammers

a) Always start drilling at low speed and with the bit tip in contact with the workpiece.

At higher speeds, the bit is likely to bend if allowed to rotate freely without contacting the workpiece, resulting in personal injury.

b) Apply pressure only in direct line with the bit and do not apply excessive pressure.

Bits can bend causing breakage or loss of control, resulting in personal injury.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY WARNINGS

1. Ensure that the power source to be utilized conforms to the power requirements specified on the product nameplate.
2. Ensure that the power switch is in the OFF position.
   If the plug is connected to a receptacle while the power switch is in the ON position, the power tool will start operating immediately, which could cause a serious accident.
3. When the work area is removed from the power source, use an extension cord of sufficient thickness and rated capacity. The extension cord should be kept as short as practicable.
4. Do not touch the bit during or immediately after operation. The bit becomes very hot during operation and could cause serious burns.
5. Before starting to break, chip or drill into a wall, floor or ceiling, thoroughly confirm that such items as electric cables or conduits are not buried inside.
6. Always hold the body handle and side handle of the power tool firmly. Otherwise the counterforce produced may result in inaccurate and even dangerous operation.
7. Wear a dust mask.

Do not inhale the harmful dusts generated in drilling or chiseling operation. The dust can endanger the health of yourself and bystanders.

Operate this Rotary Hammer by utilizing its own weight. The performance will not be better even if it is pressed or thrust forcibly against the work surface.

Hold this Rotary Hammer with a force just sufficient to counteract the reaction.

Warming up (Fig. 13)

The grease lubrication system in this unit may require warming up in cold regions.

Position the end of the bit so makes contact with the concrete, turn on the switch and perform the warming up operation. Make sure that a hitting sound is produced and then use the unit.

CAUTION

When the warming up operation is performed, hold the side handle and the main body securely with both hands to maintain a secure grip and be careful not to twist your body by the jammed drill bit.

GREASE REPLACEMENT

This Rotary Hammer is of full air-tight construction to protect against dust and to prevent lubricant leakage.

Therefore, this Rotary Hammer can be used without lubrication for long periods. Replace the grease as described below.

Grease Replacement Period

After purchase, replace grease after every 6 months of usage. Ask for grease replacement at the nearest authorized Service Center.

MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

1. Inspecting the tool bits

Since use of a dull tool will cause motor malfunctioning and degraded efficiency, replace the tool bit with new ones or resharpen them without delay when abrasion is noted.

2. Inspecting the mounting screws

Regularly inspect all mounting screws and ensure that they are properly tightened. Should any of the screws be loose, retighten them immediately. Failure to do so could result in serious hazard.

3. Maintenance of the motor

The motor unit winding is the very "heart" of the power tool. Exercise due care to ensure the winding does not become damaged and/or wet with oil or water.

4. Inspecting the carbon brushes (Fig. 14)

The Motor employs carbon brushes which are consumable parts. When they become worn to or near the "wear limit" ③, it results in motor trouble.

When an auto-stop carbon brush is equipped, the motor will stop automatically. At that time, replace both carbon brushes with new ones which have the same carbon brush Numbers 6 shown in the Fig.14. In addition, always keep carbon brushes clean and ensure that they slide freely within the brush holders.

5. Replacing carbon brushes (Fig. 14)

Loosen the two set screws and remove the tail cover. Remove the brush caps and carbon brushes. After replacing the carbon brushes, do not forget to tighten the brush caps securely and to install the tail cover.

6. Replacing supply cord

If the replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this has to be done by the manufacturer of this agent in order to avoid a safety hazard.

The wires of the main lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

Blue: — Neutral

Brown:Live

As the colours of the wires in the main lead of this tool may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows:

The wire coloured blue must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire coloured brown must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured red. Neither core must be connected to the earth terminal.

NOTE:

This requirement is provided according to BRITISH STANDARD 2769:1984.

Therefore, the letter code and colour code may not be applicable to other markets except The United Kingdom.

Information for power supply system to be used with electric tools provided with rated voltage 230V

Switching operations of electric apparatus cause voltage fluctuations.

The operation of this electric tool under unfavorable mains conditions can have adverse effects to the operation of other electric apparatus.

With a mains impedance equal or less than 0.368 Ohms there will probably be no negative effect.

Usually, the maximum permissible mains impedance will not be exceeded when the branch to the power outlet is fed from a junction box with a service capacity of 25 ampere or higher.

In case of power failure, or when the power plug is pulled out, immediately return the switch to OFF position. This prevents an uncontrolled restart.
