This applies also to left-handed persons! Position the guide handle to allow you guiding the device securely and conveniently. Hold the device during cutting so that it is at an adequate distance from the body. Make sure the cutting tool does not lie on the ground when switching the device on.35 Working with the brush cutter Kickback – backstroke When working with metal blades, a kickback of the whole machine or a sudden pull forwards may occur if fixed objects (trees, branches, stones or the like) are hit. Such a kickback occurs abruptly without advance warning and may result in loss of control of the machine and hazards to the operator. There is a particular hazard in badly visible and overgrown areas. To keep the control in case of kickback Always hold the machine firmly with both hands when working. Always hold the machine that the guide tool is always guided below the waist. Make sure that you have a safe stand. Keep your feet conveniently spread and be always alert to a possible kickback. Do not overestimate your abilities and always keep your balance when working. The cutting blade should have reached its full speed before cutting. When brushcutting, stones and debris may be thrown up and cause serious injuries. Make sure that the safety guard is safely mounted. Failure to install rotating parts (cutting blades) correctly may result in severe accidents. Check the cutting tool for secure seating before starting work.
Mowing Tilt the device slightly toward the front and guide it with quiet and steady movements in a curve from the right to the left. This way, the cut material falls on the already mowed area.
Cut higher grass and denser growth in several passes. For this, shorten the upper portion of the material to be cut at first by moving the device to the right. Then, move the device to the left and cut the lower portion of the material to be cut.
When working on slopes mow in stripes. Mow a stripe parallel to the slope. Move then back on the mowed area and mow the next stripe.
Larger, level areas are best worked from the outside to the inside. Start mowing at the left outer edge of the area and move in a square spiral movement toward the middle. Adjust the engine speed and cutting height to the prevailing conditions. If the engine speed is too low, scrub can entangle in the cutting tool or get stuck. If grass, scrub or other objects entangle in the cutting tool or if the device vibrates abnormally, immediately stop the engine and check the machine. Never remove jammed material while the cutting blade is still rotating. Wait until the cutting blade stands still. If the cutting blade is dull, broken or bent, replace it by a genuine spare part.
Working with the grass trimmer Trimming Switch on the grass trimmer on a level, already moves area.
During the cutting process, keep the grass trimmer at a sufficient distance from your body, tilt the machine slightly forward and move it smoothly and evenly from left to right. Always hold the machine that the guide tool is always guided below the waist. You will get the best trimming results when you cut dry grass. Wet grass is harder to cut and causes blockages more quickly. Cut higher grass and denser growth in several passes to avoid blockages. Start along walls, trees, fences, lawn edges or other obstacles at a certain distance from the obstacle and work forward step by step. Do not guide the cutting thread directly at walls and paving stones. Otherwise it will prematurely wear off. Guide the product around trees and shrubs so that the plants are not damaged. The cutting thread is after-running once the lawn trimmer has been cut off. Therefore wait until the thread is stationary before you restart the product.
Working with the hedge trimmer When may I cut? Follow the country-specific or communal legal regulations for cutting hedges (including hedge banks, shrubbery, reed bed and reeds). It may deviate from the following. For the protection of animals and breeding birds, the cutting (radical cutting) of hedges, but also bushes, reed bed and reeds is not permitted from 1 March to 30 September. During this time, gentle shaping and pruning are permitted, in which only the fresh growth of the plants is removed or cuts to maintain the health of trees. A radical cutback or grubbing-up is only possible from October to March without violating the law.
When is the right time for cutting? Observe the right time for cutting to prevent harming your hedge unnecessarily. Depending on the type of your hedge, the time for cutting differs. Recommendations: Deciduous hedges are pruned shortly before winter or until the end of February.36 Evergreen hedges or conifers are pruned before the firs
sho ots in spring (end of March) or in autumn before the first frost.
dges of flowering shrubs should, if trimming is required, be cut immediately after flowerin
Sha ping and pruning can always be carried out between March and September for all varietie
Obser ve also the weather conditions: Spring pruning should not be done at freezing temperatures, sinc e the cuts produced heal very poorly. In addition, branches break off easily at freezing temperatures. A good day for cutting is therefore a dry and sunny day without frost. Summ er pruning should not be carried out when it is too hot and the sun is too bright; the freshly cut shoots dry ou t and die off. Cut early in the day therefore, in th e late afternoon or o n a cloudy day.
not cut either during heavy rain; the moisture will promote the growth of fungi and pests. Simply ask a specialist who can tell you about the right time for cuttin g your hedge and provide you with useful tips. Working with the hedge trimmer Before cutting, make sure that there are no breeding birds or wild animals in the hedge. With breeding animals you should shift the cutting, in order not to drive away the old animals. Hold the hedge shear with both hands on a safe distance from the body. Keep children, bystanders and animals at a distance (15 m min.) fro m your working area. Scare animals off the hedge before starting to cut in order to prev ent them from being injured. Operate the hedge trimmer only with safe standing position. Never work with the hedge trimmer above shoulder height. Stop the hedge trimmer when moving to another work place. Do not use the hedge trimmer to pick up or remove wood
eces or other objects. Start trimming with the cutting device moving. Never touch the cutting device with your hands during operatio
Never get in contact with the running cutting device with metallic fences or the ground. Adjustments on the hedge trimmer You can use the hedge trimmer to trim high and wide hedges as well as low hedges. The hedge trimmer head (35) can be adjusted within a working angle range of 195 °. Adjust the hedge trimmer head to the correct working position before starting your work. Press the engagement levers at the top (M) and bottom (N)
nd swivel the head of the hedge trimmer to the desired position
Release the engagement levers again. The hedge trimmer head engages. The maximal diameter to cut depends on the wood’s type, age, moisture and hardness. Therefore cut very thick branches using branch shears to your desired length before trimming the hed ge. / Due to its double sided knives the hedge shears can be guided forward and backward or by oscillating movements from one to another side.
Cut the sides of the hedge first. Cut the hedge from the bottom up. Whil e cutting, slightly tilt the cutting device in the direction of the cutting movement. Move forward slowly and in a controlled manner.
Cut the hedge in trapezium shape. This prevents the low er hedge area from growing bare due to insufficient light. As a rule of thumb: 10 cm inclination per metre hedge height. For a 2 m high hedge having a width of 80 cm at its base this means that its crown has a width of 40 cm, for example. Now cut the top side of the hed ge. Stre tch a guide over the complete length of the hedge when you want to shorten the upper edge of the hedge evenly. Trim in s everal passes if you have to cut down a large porti on of the hedge. Stop with your work often when cutting hedges for extended periods and oil the cutting device. The oil ensures easy movement of the cutting device. After work slide the blade protection (14) again on the cutting device (35). Working with the power pruner Keep a safety distance of 10 m to overhead power lines. Do not use the power pruner near inflammable liquids or gases. Notes on tree care
To protect animals and breeding birds, pruning is prohibited from 01 March to 30 September. When is the right time for tree care measures? Observe the right time when pruning to prevent harming your trees un necessarily. Recommendations for pruning: End of winter (January - March): Removing branches in the fine branch area promotes strong new shoots and is relatively gentle on the trees. Spring till start of summer (April - June): During the growth phase, the development of new shoots is favoured by moderate pruning. Trimming (cutting of dead wood) can always be done. Observe also the weather conditio ns: Spring pruning should not be done at freezing temperatures, sinc e the cuts produced heal very poorly. In addition, branches break off easily at freezing temperatures. A good day for cutting is therefore a dry day withou t frost.37 Do not cut either during heavy rain; the moisture will promote the growth of fungi and pests. Simply ask a specialist who can tell you about the right time for tree c are and provide you with useful tips. While working: Saw backstroke What is saw backstroke? Saw backstroke is the sudden strike upwards or backwards of the running power pruner in direction of the operator. This happens when the g uide bar tip gets in contact with the sawing material (unintended) or other hard objects. the saw chain is jammed at the guide bar tip. The power pruner reacts uncontrolled and frequently causes heavy injuries of the operator. How to avoid saw backstroke? For better control saw with the lower edge of the guide bar. Place the power pruner as horizontally as possible when contacting wood
wing with the upper guide bar edge may caus e a saw bac kstroke if the saw gets jammed or hits a hard object in the wood. Start cutting only with running saw chain.
Always hold the power pruner firmly with both hands. Only work with correctly sharpened and clamped saw chain. General conduct when pruning Plan an escape route from falling branches in advance. This escape route must be free from obstacles to ensure retreating without danger. Position yourself outside the range of falling branches. Make sure that someone is within calling distance in case of an accident. Keep other persons away. The safety distance is 2.5- times the length of the branch to be cut, but at least 6 m. Avoid abnormal posture. Keep at any time the balance. Do not work with the upper part of the body leaned forward. Operate the power pruner only with safe standing position. Hold the power pruner slightly to the right of the own body. Frequently change the working position to prevent a one- sided work position
Immediately stop working when you feel unwell (e.g. headache, dizziness, nausea, etc.). Otherwise there is an increased risk of accidents. Observe sufficient break times to rest. Never work with stretched arms stan ding on a ladder, a staging or a tree. Do not attempt to hit an already existing cut. Do not use the power pruner for lifting or moving of wood. Saw splintered wood with care. There is risk of injury by wood pieces carried away. Make sure that the wood is free of foreign object (nails etc). Do not overload the machine! You work better and safer in the given performance range
Be careful at the end of a sawing cut. As soon as the power pruner leaves the wood the force of weight changes. There is risk of accident for legs and feet. Remove the power pruner only with running saw chain out of the cut. If the saw chain gets jammed in the wood, stop it immediately and remove the battery. Use a wedge to free the guide ba
Do not use any cracked saw chains or such that have changed their shape
Never touch wire fences or the ground with the running saw chain. Switch off the power pruner between the cuts when several cuts are carried ou
Make breaks when sawing so that the engine can cool down. After work slide the chain protection (22) again on the guide bar (21). Saw techniques
Do not cut thin branches or bosks. The power pruner is not suit able for those works. Cut l arger branches into several sections to avoid splintering and breaking. Do not cut any branches where their diameter is greate r than the c utting length of the device
Watch out especially for falling branches. Also look out for branches snapping back. Always wear a helmet in order to protect yourself against perches falling down. Step cut For horizontal branches without being top heavy The branch section falls down in a controlled manner without tipping over. Set the first cut from below, approx. one third of the branch diameter. The second cut is made on the same level as the first cut or moved further toward the inside (negative breaking step). Remove the remaining branch section. Attention: Step cut error If the cut is made offset toward the outside (positive breaking step) and exceeded, the power pruner can be pulled along38 Maintenance
Before each maintenance and cleaning work Switch off device. Wait until the cutting device does not longer move. Remove the battery. Wear protective gloves during maintenance and cleaning work in the area of the cutting tool to avoid possible injuries. Maintenance and repair work other than those described in this chapter is only allowed to be carried out by service staff. For maintaining and cleaning, removed security devices must unconditionally be mounted properly and proved again. Only use genuine spare parts. Other than genuine parts may result in unpredictable damages and injury.
Maintenance - General To guarantee a long and reliable usage of the product carry out the following maintenance works regularly. Check the device for obvious defects such as loose fastening elements worn or damaged components bent, broken or damaged cutting tool Necessary repair works or maintenance have to be carried out before using the machine. A damaged cutting tool must be replaced by a new one. The cutting tool will not come to a standstill immediately after cut-off. Before starting any service work wait until all parts are stationary. Lubricate the gear box Lubricate the gearbox every 25 operating hours.
1. Put the grease gun onto the grease filling plug (36). The
grease filling plug is located at the gearbox
2. Force some grease into the zerk fitting.
Use SHELL ALVANIA RL3, for example, or an equivalent grease brand.
Maintenance brush cutter / grass trimmer Cutting blade (7) Safe and efficient working is only possible with a correctly sharpened and intact cutting blade. Therefore, check the cutting blade for dull edges, bents, cracks or other damages on a regular basis. Have dull cutting blades sharpened by a specialist/service workshop. Both sides of the cutting blade may be used. Turn round the cutting blade once and continue to work with the brush cutter until both sides of the cutting blade are dull-edged. Replace damaged cutting blade by new one. Replacing the thread spool (12) Remove dirt and grass residues. Lock the drive shaft (G) in the holder (G) via the recess.
Left-hand thread! Unscrew the thread spool (12) (G) and screw a new thread spool in place. Sharpening or replacing the thread knife (37) Do not use unsharpened or damaged thread knives. A damaged thread knife must be replaced by a new one. Unscrew the thread knife (37). Clamp the thread knife into a vice and sharpen it with a flat file. Make sure not to change the angle of the knife and file only in one direction. File carefully. Screw down the thread knife again as shown. Do not over tighten the screws.
Maintenance hedge trimmer Cutting device (35) Check the following regularly
the screw joints of the cutting device for firm fastening. Loose screw joints cause an unsatisfactory cutting result because the blades can no longer close correctly. Risk of injury! Loose screw joints may separate during work resulting in cutting injuries. the blades for notches. Too many notches make work more difficult because the blades are dull. These notches will also damage the wood. Have the blades sharpened by a specialist. the cutting device for deformed, broken or damaged blades. Necessary repair works or maintenances have to be carried out before using the power tool.39 Maintenance Power pruner Adjusting the chain lubrication The chain lubrication is factory-set. Depending on the type of wood and working techniques the amount of oil may vary and has to be corrected Adjust the chain lubrication using the adjusting screw (O) which is located below the product Anticlockwise turning large amount of (MAX) Clockwise turning small amount of oil (MIN) The chain lubrication is correctly adjusted when the saw chain throws off small amounts of oil during operation. Saw chain and guide bar Saw chain and guide bar are exposed to a great extent of wearing. Replace the chain saw and the guide bar without any delay if their proper function is no longer ensured „ Installing the guide bar and the chain saw”. Sharpening of saw chain You can only work safely and well with a sharp and clean saw chain. Damaged or incorrectly sharpened saw chains increase the risk of kickbacks. The saw chain has to be sharpened if only wood dust is thrown out instead of shavings you have to press the chain saw through the wood during cutting Inexperienced users: Have the saw chain sharpened by a specialist/service workshop. You can also sharpen your saw chain yourself by using our electric sharpener KSG 220 A (article-no.: 302360). Only remove a little amount of material when sharpening. Saw chain type 3/8“ LP.043x39 Depth limiter distance T 0,64 mm (.25“) Sharpening angle α 25°Breast angle β 60°Clearing angle 10° Chain wheel The demand of the chain wheel (30) is particularly great. Check regularly the teeth of the chain wheel for wear or damages
A worn or damaged chain wheel reduces thedurability of the saw chain and should therefore immediately be exchanged by the customer service Cleaning Cleaning - general
Clean the machine thoroughly after each applicationso that the faultless function is kept. Water, solvents and polishing agents shall not be applied. Make sure the ventilation slots are free from foreign objects (risk of overheating). Clean the case with a soft brush or a dry cloth. Clean the contact plug in the battery well with a soft brush. Do not clean the machine under running water or using a gh-pressure cleaner. Keep the handles free of oil and grease. Do not use solvents (gasoline, alcohol, etc.) for plastic parts, oth erwise such parts may be damaged. Cleaning brush cutter / grass trimmer After work, remove grass, dirt, plant residues and moisture (pl ant sap) with a brush or a damp cloth from the area of thecutting tool and the guard
Cleaning hedge trimmer Remove dirt, plant residues and moisture (plant sap) fromthe cutting device (36) after finishing work using a brush or a clot
Never clean the knives with water Risk of corrosion! Stubborn dirt and resin residues can be dissolved with asuitable cleaning agent (e.g. resin solvent). Spray the fron
