Frequently Asked Questions - GasCheck Laserliner

How to replace the battery of the Laserliner GasCheck?
Open the battery compartment on the back of the device. Insert a 9V block battery observing the polarity. The device is immediately operational.
What does the blue LED on the device mean?
The blue LED indicates that a measurement is in progress. Keep the measuring head still during this phase.
What do the red and green LEDs mean?
The red LED means no gas at the measured location. The green LED indicates gas presence (fill level).
Does the GasCheck turn off automatically?
Yes, the device turns off automatically after 2 seconds of inactivity. It has no On/Off switch.
Can the GasCheck be used on plastic bottles?
No, the measuring instrument is not suitable for plastic gas bottles. It is designed for steel LPG bottles of 5 kg and 11 kg.
How to clean the device?
Clean all components with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid cleaning agents, solvents and abrasive products.
Why does the lower red LED flash?
The flashing lower red LED indicates that the battery charge is low. Replace the battery with a new one.
Can measurements be taken on weld seams?
No, it is not possible to take a measurement on weld seams. Measure on the clean cylindrical surface, away from welds.
How to obtain an accurate measurement?
Place the bottle vertically. Clean the measuring area. Take several measurements in the cleaned central area of the bottle. Keep the measuring head still.
Does the GasCheck work with metal bottles other than steel?
The instrument is suitable to a certain extent for metal bottles, but is optimized for steel bottles of 5 kg and 11 kg. Results may be disturbed by rust, irregular coating, or ice.

Safety instructions

Dealing with electromagnetic radiation

  • The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limit values in accordance with EMC-Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • Local operating restrictions – for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers – may apply. Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazards or interference.

Information on gas cylinders

  • The measuring surface and the surface to be measured of the gas cylinder must be free of dirt, stickers and rust.
  • Observe the safety regulations for handling propane/butane gas cylinders.
  • The measurement is not a substitute for correct residual gas disposal.

The device is ready for use immediately once the batteries have been inserted. It does not have a separate ON/OFF switch and is therefore always active.

Notes on measurement

  • Steel gas cylinders are normally filled up to 80% depending on the propane/butane mix ratio and the temperature.
  • The measuring device is not suitable for use on plastic gas bottles.
  • With the exception of 5kg and 11kg steel LPG cylinders, the measuring device is suitable only to a limited extent for metal gas cylinders.
  • The measurement can be adversely affected by dirt on the measuring head and gas cylinder. The measuring surfaces should therefore be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Possible influencing factors on gas cylinders include:

1.Rust (also invisible areas on the inside)
2. Uneven/excessively thick coating on the outer wall
3. Ice build-up on the surface
4. Dented or scratches surfaces
5. Radii of upper and lower ends of gas cylinders too small To avoid these factors, the measurement should be carried out at several points in the cleaned central area of the gas cylinder.
- To avoid sloping liquid levels, the gas cylinder should be as upright as possible during the measurement.
- It is recommended to start the measurement from the bottom in order to determine the minimum level as fast as possible.
- The exact level is at the point between the signals „Gas" and „No Gas".
- Measurement is not possible on welded seams.

To measure the level
