2.1 General safety instructions

WARNING! Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

2.2 Machine-related safety instructions

• Always read the operating manual and follow the safety instructions provided with the portable circular saw HK 85.
• Do not exceed the maximum speed stated on the tool. If a speed range is given, the speed must be kept within this.
• Always check whether the pendulum guard is working correctly before using the machine. Do not use the groove cutter if the protective cover cannot move freely, is damaged or will not close immediately. Do not clamp or otherwise tie the pendulum guard to hold it open and never work without the guards fitted.
• Only use original spare parts that have been designed for the system.
• Do not use tools that have visible cracks in them. (Reconditioning cutters with cracks is not permitted.)
• The clamping surfaces must be clean and free of lubricating grease, oil and water.
• Clamp the tools in such a way that they cannot work loose during the machining process. Only tighten the clamping screws using the tool designed for this purpose.
• Never use dull or damaged mortising bits. Dull or damaged mortising bits can cause the tool to lurch sideways unexpectedly and lead to a loss of control of the power tool.
• Do not install the groove unit or the adjustable grooving cutter in any portable circular saw other than the one specified. Installation in any other portable circular saw may render the power tool unsafe to use and cause serious accidents.
• Keep children and other persons away from the power tool during use.

2.3 Emission levels

Levels determined in accordance with EN 60745 are typically:

The specified emission values (vibration, noise)

• are used to compare machines.
• They are also used for making preliminary estimates regarding vibration and noise loads during operation.
• They represent the primary applications of the power tool.

Increase possible for other applications, with other insertion tools or if not maintained adequately. Take note of idling and downtimes of machine!

3 Intended use

The HK 85 portable circular saw can be turned into a groove cutter in combination with this groove unit.

The groove cutter is designed for guided routing in wood and materials similar to wood with dust extraction. It is not suitable for making angled cuts or plunge cuts.

Only use the original Festool adjustable grooving cutter.

The machine is designed and approved for use by trained persons or specialists only.

The user is liable for improper or non-intended use.

Do not use insert tools that are blunt or defective.
Wear protective gloves.

Removing the saw blade

Swivel saw to 0^ position before replacing the saw blade and set maximum cutting depth.
To replace the saw blade, place the saw on the edge of the table.
Turn lever [2-2] as far as stop.
Open the screw [2-5] using the Allen key[2-1].
Hold the pendulum guard open [2-8] only with retractor lever [2-3].
Remove the saw blade [2-4] with clamping flange [2-6] and rear flange [2-7].
Carefully release the retractor lever [2-3] and allow the pendulum guard to swivel back [2-8] to its final position.

Fitting the groove unit

Follow the fitting sequence.

1. Lower guard

Push the lower guard [3-1] onto the pendulum guard of the portable circular saw.
Push it until the locknut is seated behind the pendulum guard of the portable circular saw [3A] - push it as far as possible. The screws will need to be loosened slightly in order to do this.
- Tighten the two screws [3-2] using a Torx spanner (left-hand thread).

2. Upper guard

Push the upper guard [4-1] onto the cover of the portable circular saw.

Push it until the support plate [4-3] is seated in front of the portable circular saw's cover and the locknut is seated behind it [4A] push it as far as possible. The screws will need to be loosened slightly in order to do this.

The tips of the upper guard must hook into the front and the back of the portable circular saw's housing [4B].

• Tighten the two screws [4-2] using a Torx spanner (left-hand thread).

3. Adjustable grooving cutter

The adjustable grooving cutter is delivered set to the maximum routing width. The routing width cannot be changed with the adjustable grooving cutter fitted; see section 7.1.
Hold the pendulum guard open [5-5] only with retractor lever [5-2].
Push the adjustable grooving cutter[5-3] from underneath under the upper guard and place it on the drive spindle.
- Carefully release the retractor lever [5-2] and allow the pendulum guard to swivel back [5-5] to its final position.
Tightenscrew[5-4].
Reposition lever [5-1].

Risk of injury! Always make sure that adjustable grooving cutter is firmly seated after fitting. If a clamping flange is loose, the cutting edges of the adjustable grooving cutter may break off; if a screw is loose, the adjustable grooving cutter may work loose.

Removal in reverse order.

7 Set ting s

7.1 Setting the routing width

Do not use insert tools that are blunt or defective.

This cannot be done with the adjustable cutter fitted.

Use the spacers (1x 3 mm; 2x 2 mm; 1x 1 mm; 2x 0.5 mm wide) to set the routing width.

• Remove the counter flange [6-5] and the front tool holder [6-1] from the front.

Set the required routing width [x] using the enclosed spacers [6-2]. (The adjustable grooving cutter has a routing width of 16mm without the spacers.)
- Place these spacers between the front [6-1] and the rear [6-3] tool holders.
- Place the unused spacers [6-2] on the front tool holder [6-1] and click them into the cylinder pin (it is advisable start with the thickest and end with the thinnest).
Refit the counter flange [6-5], tool holder [6-1] + [6-3] and rear clamping flange[6-4].

Risk of injury! Only fit the adjustable grooving cutter in the portable circular saw intact and complete with all spacers.

7.2 Setting the Mortise Depth

Use the cutting depth adjuster in the portable circular saw to set the routing depth.

7.3 Dust extraction the

Dust hazard

Dust can be hazardous to health. Always work with a dust extractor.
Always read applicable national regulations before extracting hazardous dust.

Festool mobile dust extractor

A Festool mobile dust extractor with an extraction hose diameter of 36mm can be connected to the extractor connector[1-2] on the upper guard [1-1]

8 Working with the electric power tool

Please observe all mentioned safety informations and the following rules when working:

g rooNt the function of the pendulum guard prior to use and do not use the electric power tool if it does not slide in and out easily.

• Before each use, check the protective guards for damage. The protective guards must only be used if they are complete and undamaged, otherwise there is an increased risk of injury.

• Always check that the indexable inserts are firmly seated and undamaged before use; replace them if necessary.
• Always hold the machine with two hands at the handles when performing work. This reduces the risk of injury and is a prerequisite for precise work.

Wear protective goggles.

Wear a dust mask.

• Do not make angled cuts or plunge cuts.
• Not suitable for freehand use. Only use together with a guide rail, a cross cutting guide rail or a parallel stop.
• Always carry out routing work with the speed set to 6.
• Follow the safety instructions on using the portable circular saw HK 85.

9 Service and maintenance

WARNING

Risk of injury, electric shock

Always disconnect the mains plug from the socket before performing maintenance work on the machine!
All maintenance and repair work which requires the motor housing to be opened must only be carried out by an authorised service workshop.

Regular cleaning of the machine, above all the adjustment devices and the guides, is an important safety factor.

Observe the following instructions:

Use an extractor on all openings of the power tool to remove chips and splinters.
The pendulum guard must always be able to move freely and close independently. Always keep the area around the pendulum guard clean. Clear from dust and chippings by blowing out with compressed air or using a brush.
Clean the adjustable grooving cutter and the groove unit regularly. Resin from light alloys must only be removed using thinners that do not affect the mechanical properties of the material (pH value 4.5 - 8).

Blunt tools

Always use original indexable inserts.

Remove the indexable inserts from the adjustable grooving cutter by undoing the screw.

Clean all parts of the adjustable grooving cutter and its blade compartments.
Turn the indexable inserts or recondition/replace them.
- Secure the indexable inserts in place using countersunk screws [M5] and tighten them (<3 Nm).

10 Environment

Do not dispose of the device as domestic waste!

• Dispose of machines, accessories and packaging at an environmentally responsible recycling centre.
• Observe the respective national regulations.
