The Brio 2000 M electronic pump control allows the automation of any type of pressure pump that is capable of generating a pressure of more than 1.5 bar. Automation means that the liquid being discharged can be used just as though it would come out of the water mains and: by simply opening or closing water taps or other consumers. The Brio 2000 M provides an additional benefit in that it prevents the pump from damage by dry running, since the pump will cut out in the absence of water. As soon as the connection to electrical mains is established, the Brio 2000 M will activate the pump for approximately 15 seconds. The pump will cut in automatically as soon as a consumer is opened and causes the pressure within the pipe system to drop to the cut-in pressure of the Brio 2000 M. In contrast to pumps that are equipped with pressure vessels such as, for instance, domestic booster systems, the automatic cut-out of the pump will not occur upon the reaching of a specific cut-out pressure, but rather by the reduction of the flow rate down to minimum value as a result of the closing of consumers. In this process, the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control will delay cutting-out by 7 to 15 seconds. This method will decrease the cut-in/cut- out frequency of the pump at low flow rates and thus contribute to a sparing operation of the unit. This feature is also activated in the case of the pumps dry-running and thus protects the device efficiently from damage which may be caused by operation in the absence of water. The cut-in pressure and the pressure inside the pipe system can be checked using the built-in pressure gauge. When using the Brio 2000 M, the liquids to be discharged must not contain any solids since this may entail functional disturbances. If this cannot be excluded, please use an efficient prefilter at the intake area of the pump.

The unit is not suited to discharge saltwater, faeces, inflammable, etching, explosive or other hazardous liquids. Please observe the max. and min. temperatures of the liquids to be discharged stated in the technical data.

4. Scope of delivery

The scope of the delivery of this product includes: One electronic pump control with a connection cord, one double nipple, one operating manual. Please verify that the scope of delivery is complete. Depending on the purpose of the application, additional accessories may be necessary (please refer to the chapters titled "Installation" and “How to order spare parts“).

If possible, keep the packing until the warranty period has expired. Please dispose of the packing materials in an environmental-friendly manner.

During the entire process of installation, the devices must not be connected to the electrical mains.

The pump, the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control and the entire collection system have to be protected from frost and weather influence.

When installing the unit, please make sure that the connection cable is not subjected to excessive pulling strain since this may cause damage to the electrical line and the electrical connector.

When the pump stops in normal operation, the pipe system is under pressure. Therefore, a consumer is to be opened prior to any intervention to make sure that the pressure will be relieved.

All connection lines have to be perfectly tight since leaking lines may affect the performance of the pump and cause considerable damage. Therefore, please use Teflon tape to seal the contact surfaces between the threaded sections of the lines and the connection with the pump. This use of sealing material such as Teflon tape is the only way to ensure an airtight assembly. Avoid when tightening screw excessive force that may cause damage. 5.2. Installation of the Electronic Pump Control The Brio 2000 M electronic pump control can be installed at any position between the pressure port or pressure line of the pump and the first consumer - for instance a water tap. However, it is recommended to install the unit in the close vicinity of or directly on the pressure port of the pump. When using the supplied double nipple the side of the double nipple provided with O-ring must be screwed into the pump. The double nipple without side O-ring is screwed into the rotatable coupling nut (8) of the pump control (FIG. VII). Check that the gasket is properly inserted into the nut. If the fitting is carried out properly, the pump control must not be turned by hand. When installing the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control, please make sure that the arrows on its cover lid and outgoing port point in the flowing direction of the liquid being discharged. Subsequently, the outlet port of the Brio 2000 M and consumer is to be connected to a suitable water pipe. If you are using a pump with a maximum pressure of more than 10 bar, you have to install an upstream pressure reducer which limits the max. operating pressure to 10 bar. To ensure the perfect running of the electronic pump control, the intake line of the pump is to be equipped with a check (or non-return) valve or a foot valve in order to maintain the pressure inside the water supply system after the pump cuts out. This applies also to the use of a deep-well or submersible pressure pump (fig. IV.). 5.3. Cut-in Pressure

Changing the preset cut-in pressure must only be done by qualified staff.

The difference between the cut-in pressure set on the Brio 2000 M and the maximum pressure of the pump must be higher than 0.6 bar.

The cut-in pressure of the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control was set to 1.5 bar in the factory. If this value is to be modified, the cover lid of the device has to be removed. To avoid any risk, this must only be done by qualified staff, for instance by a qualified plumber or electrical shop. The cut-in pressure is set using the screw provided at the inner flange. Rotating this screw in the direction of the plus sign (“+”) will increase the cut-in pressure, rotating the screw in the direction of the minus sign (“-“) will decrease it (fig. VI). Experience has shown that the preset value of 1.5 bar is ideally suited for most installations. However, a modification may become necessary in the following cases:

1. The “h” height difference between the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control and the highest consumer exceeds

2. The pump is working in flooded-suction mode which means that the intake pressure adds up to the max. pump

pressure. Please note that any modification of the setting will only influence the cut-in pressure of the pump. Increasing the pressure at the outlet point of the pumped liquid is not possible in this way.

6. Electrical connection

The unit is equipped with a mains connection cable and a mains plug. It must only be replaced by qualified staff to avoid any danger. Please do not use the mains connection cable to carry the pump, and do not use this cable to pull off the plug from the socket, either. Protect the mains connection cable and mains plug from heat, oil or sharp edges.

The values stated in the technical details have to correspond to the mains voltage. The person responsible for the installation has to make sure that the electrical connection is earthed in compliance with the applicable standards.

The electrical connection has to be equipped with a highly sensitive residual current circuit- breaker (FI switch): ∆ = 30 mA (DIN VDE 0100-739).

Only use an extension cable with a cable section (3 x 1.0 mm²) and rubber sheath which at least corresponds to that of the unit's own connection cable (see "Technical data", cable type) and which is labeled with the relevant abbreviation according to the VDE (German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies). The mains plug and other connections must be splash proof.

The mains plug of the automatic control system connects directly to electrical mains through a suitably grounded (SCHUKO) mains socket which is to be installed properly. During operation, the green indicator light shows the presence of voltage within the system. The mains plug of the pump is to be connected to the socket of the Brio 2000 M.

7. Putting into operation

Please avoid any direct influence of moisture on the device (for instance when operating irrigators). Do not expose the unit to rain. Make sure there are no dripping connectors above the device. Do not use the device in wet or moist environments. Make sure that the device including any electrical plug connectors are installed in a flood-proof location.

Prior to putting the unit into operation, please fill the suction line and the pump casing completely with liquid. Plug the mains plugs of the pump into the socket of the Brio 2000 M. Then use a properly installed grounded (earthed) mains socket to connect the Brio 2000 M directly to mains. The green indicator lamp on the Brio 2000 M goes on to indicate the presence of voltage. Subsequently, switch the pump on. After the pump has cut out automatically, the highest-located consumer should be opened. As soon as the water is running smoothly, the process of putting into operation is completed. If no water is actually being discharged, please extend the time for putting the device into operation beyond the time span set in the electronic pump control. To do so, please keep the “START PUMP” key on the Brio 2000 M depressed until the priming process is completed and water is being discharged. If after approximately 1 minute this measure fails, too, please disconnect the Brio 2000 M from mains and repeat the steps described for putting into operation.

8. Interruption and Resumption of the Operation in the Case of Dry-Running

In the case of dry running / absence of water, the Brio 2000 M electronic pump control will ensure that the pump will cut out. In addition, the red “ERROR” indicator lamp will light up. This protective feature will prevent a the pump from cutting in automatically again. To resume operation, the “START PUMP” key of the electronic pump control has to be operated. Before that, make sure to remove the cause of the dry-running.

9. Maintenance and troubleshooting

Prior to carrying out any maintenance work, the devices must be separated from the electrical mains. If you fail to separate the unit from mains, there is a risk of an inadvertent start of the pump.

We decline any liability for damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts. Any damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts will avoid all warranty claims.

Regular maintenance and thorough care will reduce the danger of possible malfunction and contribute to an extension of the lifetime of your unit. If the pump is not in use over some extended period of time, both the devices and the entire system should be emptied using the devices provided for this purpose. Water left in the pump may freeze in case of frost and thus cause considerable damage. In the case of malfunction, you should first of all check whether it was caused by an operating error or some other reason which cannot be attributed to a defect of the device - for instance a power failure.

The list below shows some possible malfunctions of the device, possible causes and tips on their elimination. All the measures referred to may only be carried out with the pump being separated from the electrical mains. If you yourself feel unable to eliminate any of these malfunctions, please contact the customer service department or your point of sales. Any repair beyond the scope specified below must only be performed by qualified staff. Please bear in mind that all warranty claims will become void in the case of damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts, and that we decline any liability for any ensuing damage.
