Keep all safety instructions and information for future reference.

Pass on your power tool only together with these documents.

4. Special Safety Instructions

Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.

Use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by your hand or against the body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control.

Pull the plug out of the socket before making any adjustments, converting or servicing the machine.

Always wear protective goggles, gloves, and sturdy shoes when working with this tool.

Wear ear protectors when working for long periods of time. High noise levels over a prolonged period of time may affect your hearing.

Ensure that the spot where you wish to work is free of power cables, gas lines or water pipes (e.g. using a metal detector).

Use only sharp, undamaged saw blades. Do not use saw blades that are cracked or that have changed their shape.

Always position the power cable so that it leads away from the back of the machine.

Always hold the machine with both hands on the intended handles, take a secure stance and concentrate on the work.

Always work with the guide attached.

When sawing, the guide must make secure contact with the workpiece.

When sawing water pipes, ensure that they do not contain any water.

Do not try to saw extremely small workpieces.

Keep hands well away from the sawing area and the saw blade. Do not reach underneath the workpiece.

Danger of injury due to the sharp saw blade.

Do not touch the moving saw blade!

Remove chips and similar material only with the machine at a standstill.

After stopping work, the saw blade may still be hot. Wear protective gloves.

Avoid inadvertent starts: always switch the tool off when the plug is removed from the mains socket or if there has been a power cut.

METABO SSEP 1400 MVT - Special Safety Instructions - 1

CAUTION Do not stare at operating lamp.

Reducing dust exposure:

WARNING - Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:

  • Lead from lead-based paints,
  • Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
  • Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber.

Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.

This also applies to dust from other materials such as some timber types (like oak or beech dust), metals, asbestos. Other known diseases are e.g. allergic reactions, respiratory diseases. Do not let dust enter the body.

Observe the relevant guidelines and national regulations for your material, staff, application and

place of application (e.g. occupational health and safety regulations, disposal).

Collect the particles generated at the source, avoid deposits in the surrounding area.

Use suitable accessories for special work. In this way, fewer particles enter the environment in an uncontrolled manner.

Use a suitable extraction unit.

Reduce dust exposure with the following measures:

  • do not direct the escaping particles and the exhaust air stream at yourself or nearby persons or on dust deposits,
  • use an extraction unit and/or air purifiers,
  • ensure good ventilation of the workplace and keep clean using a vacuum cleaner. Sweeping or blowing stirs up dust.
  • Vacuum or wash the protective clothing. Do not blow, beat or brush.

6. Assembly,

Initial Operation, Setting

Before plugging in, check that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency, as stated on the type plate match your power supply.
Always install an RCD with a maximum trip current of 30mA upstream.

6.1 Fitting and removing the saw blade

Danger of injury due to the sharp saw blade. After stopping work, the saw blade may still be

hot. Wear protective gloves.

METABO SSEP 1400 MVT - Fitting and removing the saw blade - 1

Pull the mains plug out of the socket.

For access to the saw blade quick-clamping device (2), adjust the guide (9) if required.

  1. Fold the lever (5) of the saw blade clamping fixture upwards and hold.
  2. Insert the saw blade (8) until the stop or remove.
  3. Release the lever (5).
  4. Check that the saw blade is securely seated.

Note: In case the saw blade ever brakes off and cannot be removed by hand from the saw blade

clamping fixture: Fold the lever (5) of the saw blade clamping fixture upwards and hold. Engage the tip of a saw blade in the broken section and pull it out. A fine-toothed metal saw blade is best suited for this task.

6.2 Setting the guide

The cutting depth can be limited by shifting the guide (9) (e.g. when sawing in front of a wall).

Occasionally shift the guide (9) to achieve even wear of the saw blade.

  1. Press the button (10) and shift the guide (9) to the desired position.
  2. Release the button (10) and shift the guide until it engages.

Check the guide (9) to ensure that it is securely fitted. It has to be engaged.

7. Use

7.1 Set pendulum action (SSEP 1400 MVT)

The pendulum action of the saw blade increases the sawing power (particularly in the case of soft

timateaetuaas wood and plastics).Furthermore,

the pendulum motion reduces the stress applied to the saw blade, as it is raised when emerging from the workpiece.

Set the required pendulum motion using the adjustment lever (4).

Recommended setting values:

0 = pendulum motion is deactivated. for thin material, fine cuts, tight c

1 = for hard materials (e.g. steel, chipboard)

2 = for thick materials (e.g. wood, plastic)

3 = maximum pendulum motion for fast cuts (e.g. coniferous wood)

The best way to determine the ideal setting is through a practical trial.

7.2 Setting maximum speed (SSEP 1400 MVT)

Set the machine to maximum speed using the setting wheel (3). This can also be done during operation.

Recommended setting values:

Wood 6

Light bricks = 5 - 6

soft, unalloyed steel = 3 - 4

Aluminium. = 3 - 5

Plastic = 1 - 4

Stainless steel = 1 - 2

The best way to determine the ideal setting is through a practical trial.

7.3 On/Off switch, continuous activation

Avoid inadvertent starts: always switch the tool off when the plug is removed from the mains socket or if there has been a power cut.

Switching on: Press the trigger switch (1). The stroke rate can be changed by pressing in the trigger.

Switching off: Release the trigger switch (1).

ENGLISHen

Continuous operation: The trigger switch (1) can be locked using the lock button (2) for continuous operation. Press the trigger switch (1) again to stop the machine.

In continuous operation, the machine continues running if it is forced out of your hands. Therefore always hold the machine with both hands using the handle provided, stand securely and concentrate.

7.4 Working Directions

Sawing:

Use a saw blade geared to the material to be sawn. SSEP 1400 MVT: Set pendulum motion according to the applications.

Adapt the stroke rate to the material to the sawn. SSEP 1400 MVT: Set maximum stroke rate according to the applications.

Press the machine with the guide (9) against the workpiece. Switch on the machine, and only then guide the saw blade against the workpiece.

Do not make contact with any objects or with the ground with the moving saw blade (danger of recoil!)

Avoid excessive pressure on the saw blade (particularly in the case of long saw blades).

If the saw blade jams, turn the machine off immediately. Widen the sawn gap slightly with a suitable tool and take out the machine.

After completing the sawing cut, switch off the machine and only take it out of the sawn gap to place it down once the saw blade has come to a standstill (danger of recoil).

Plunge cuts:

Plunge cuts may only be made in soft materials such as wood or plastic. Only use short saw blades.

Hold the machine with both hands at the intended handles, take a secure stance and concentrate on the work.

Set the adjustment lever (4) to the "0" position (pendulum motion is deactivated).

See illustration B, page 2:

The machine is pressed with the edge of the guide (9) against the workpiece. The saw blade does not make contact with the workpiece. Switch on the machine. The corner of the guide serves as a pivot point around which the machine is slowly aligned, whereby the saw blade cuts into the workpiece.

7.5 Sawing close to the wall

Set the adjustment lever (4) to the "0" position (pendulum motion is deactivated).

See illustration D, page 2.

When sawing near the wall, the saw blade can be put into the saw blade clamping fixture with the teeth pointing upwards (contrary to the normal working position). Ensure that the pendulum action is deactivated.

8. Tips and Tricks

To saw tight curves: Use narrow saw blades.

Sawing metal: To increase the life of the saw blades, apply cooling lubricant (cooling lubricant rod 6.23443) along the cutting line.

9. Maintenance

On a regular basis, use compressed air to blow out the machine through the rear ventilation slots.

Regularly clean the saw blade quick-clamping fixture (2) and blow out with compressed air. Do not oil or grease.

10. Accessories

Use only genuine Metabo accessories.

Use only accessories which fulfil the requirements and specifications listed in these operating instructions.
